Now THAT is crappy. The truth is it is a cold-blooded world. Expect nothing but the worst and you'll never be disappointed. Sometimes you'll even be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone. I'll be fine. It was just a bummer to be let go from the company you started. Well, helped start at least. But as I completed the last of the DAS designs I figured I had about worked myself out of a job. So it wasn't a total shock. But I'm a lot better off now than the last time I was shown the door. I have a little money in the bank and a second income from my wife so it's not so bad. Last time I was dead broke with two broken legs so that really sucked.

I had a big career setback today. It's been a long time coming and now it has happened. I haven't told my wife yet, she is working tonight. I'll tell her tomorrow. I'll deal with this tomorrow. Tonight I'm going to load up my iPod with Jimmy Buffet songs, sit in my rocking chair on the porch and get filthy drunk. It won't solve anything but nothing I was going to do tonight was going to solve anything anyway. I told someone on this board a few weeks ago that in hard times, when you have a problem that cannot be solved at that moment, your mind is your worst enemy. All you can do is distract it or shut it down all together. Tonight we opt for the latter.

Agiel, you taste in music videos might be suspect but you get my vote for coolest new avatar.

Guard Dog replied to Raithe's topic in Way Off-Topic
Woah, hold on here. College guy with a borderline drinking problem? I'm betting KP has stories to tell. Since Shryke left us there is a opening for a "ladies man". Maybe KP's got the goods?- 488 replies

have been hearing some attic noises of late that make us think we got squirrels living in our house. we really should call somebody to take care o' that. humane catch and release is soo expensive. perhaps release a feral cat to drive out the squirrels? ... am not serious about the cat btw, but am almost certain about the squirrels. HA! Good Fun!- 488 replies

Obama and Cameron Converse about Terror & Cyber Security
Guard Dog replied to Osvir's topic in Way Off-Topic
This will be a straight waste of Cameron's time. Obama refuses to even admit terrorism IS terrorism. -
Oo Did you read all the books? A smaller role he did not play. Like most of the other characters, he's in almost every scene the show has him in and then some in the books. I have, all of them several times. I said comparatively. They are getting more mileage from him on the show than in the books.

I find the TV Jon Snow to be very irritating. I don't know if it's because I don't like Kit Harrington but the TV version seems to whine too much and is too, indecisive I guess. The book Jon Snow is much more his own man. As for Tyrion, Danereys, and Cersei, those actors OWN those parts. Particularly Peter Dinkledge.

Actually I like the TV Varys better than the book Varys. He plays a comparatively smaller role in the books (although he is intricate in a plotline that has been simmering in the background since book1) but the TV Varys is a more "fleshed out" and interesting character.

Bah, I quit playing computer games years ago. And many times since. For some reason I keep coming back.

If it makes you feel any better 90% of all scientific research in the US is not funded directly by the government so those guys really don't have control over anything.- 488 replies

Guard Dog replied to Raithe's topic in Way Off-Topic
This guy was in my attic, which isn't very big. He got in through a broken eave vent. I fixed it and took off the big vent and "encouraged" him to leave with a CO2 fire extinguisher.- 488 replies

I though my house was haunted.... it wasn't. He's still alive and gone now. Actually I didn't really think the house was haunted since 1) I don't really believe in ghosts, and 2) I built this place (actually I had Jim Walter Homes do that but still)- 488 replies

I bought a copy of John Grisham's Gray Mountain at the DFW airport to read on the plane this morning. Frankly it stinks. About 100 pages in I realized I really didn't know what was going on and I didn't care. That guy hit big on one or two books but he's just mailed it in since. I gave the book to the guy in the seat behind me. He was going on to Louisville and hopefully he'll like it better. If not that book might have three owners in one day

Hey Leferd, I'll trade to a great all position player and a so-so shortstop for a so-so catcher and two of your best prospects. Sound good? http://m.mlb.com/news/article/106088942/rays-trade-ben-zobrist-and-yunel-escobar-to-as-for-john-jaso-and-two-prospects

Take the test http://dogtime.com/quiz/dog-breed-selector What a surprise, according to the tests the Doberman Pinscher would be an ideal match. I could see that. They are lively, active, need lots of exercise. It's like you with 4 legs!

I haven't read this thread, and I'm really not up to that mentally right now. Let me just say that nothing is "free". The state of Georgia already has free CC for anyone who attended K-12 in the state, all paid for by the state lottery. I'm all for that. But this is nothing the federal government should be involved in. This isn't it's job, this is not it's responsibility, if it were about subsidizing a state effort to some extent that would be different but it's Uncle Sam coming into the State House, shoving them around and saying "You will do this". That is not a good thing.

Today I attended a class on asynchronous Ethernet connections via LTE network. I'd tell you it was fascinating stuff but that wouldn't quite be true. However, this is a new product we are selling so I paid attention. Back in my hotel room now. I don't think I'm up for another 18oz steak so I'm probably in for the night.

Hmmm... according to The Grilling Book by Adam Rapoport & Bon Appetit (right here on the shelf next to me) we're BOTH right. Vinegar and mustard based sauce is referred to as Carolina style. Which I will agree does go better with brisket and beef but when it comes to chicken or pork, sweet is where it's at. But the truth is there are no wrong answers when it comes to that.
