As team moves go that really isn't a big one. It's been a few years since I made the trip but I seem to remember San Diego to LA is about 40 minutes if the traffic is good.

Just watched the movie Draft Day with Kevin Costner. It was really good. Like Moneyball but with football.

We didn't just have fights here, we used fight wars here. It has definitely cooled towards the boring side of the meter. But the truth is among the regulars everyone knows everyone's politics and we're all so stubborn it's impossible to change anyone's mind so why bother?

I grew up in a rural area and surrounded by farms on all sides but I don't think I really want to go back to that even minus the farms. I love having space but I also love having the conveniences of the city and I don't miss having to go to "town" for most everything. Maybe the balance I want doesn't really exist or maybe it does but I just can't afford it Yeah there are definite trade offs. As Gromnir pointed out drive times are the biggest headache. My last two jobs allowed me to work from home but now that I'm looking again a commute seems inevitable. My wife works in down town Memphis and it's a 80 minute drive for her. Fortunately her work hours allow her to miss rush hour. The nearest grocery & hardware stores are a good 20 minutes away. Same is true for anything resembling a restaurant. We don't get mail delivery out here (but UPS & FedEx come so go figure) and I used to have to rely on satellite for both TV & Internet. Fortunately AT&T put up a cell site in Ft. Pillow so I bought an all-you-can-eat data plan from them and use that now instead of Hughes Net which stunk. Forget calling 911 in an emergency, you're on your own. But the upshot is I have a house and a lot of land that is all mine. I don't have to ask permission to paint my house or plant a garden or plant or remove trees. I have farm animals, I can hunt & shoot right on my own property. No one is around to complain about how loud my radio is or if I'm working on a car or anything else. I am the king of my own country out here. Having dealt with abusive and power-mad HOAs and intrusive city governments in the past this kind of freedom is worth any inconvenience to me.

I don't think I'll ever live in an urban or suburban area again. Heck i don't think I'd want to live within the city limits of a small town again. Once you go rural you don't go back.

Interesting developments in some USA Media circles

But it's not like it's ever been any different. It's you who has grown up and become wiser and more critical - if you believe it used to be different it's probably because you remember accepting things without a thought as a youngster. I would argue we are in the greatest era of mankind ever seen. We have made so many technological advancements in fields like medicine and science...how can this not be a fantastic time to live ? Oh no argument there. I was just commenting on how hard it is to trust anyone anymore. To quote Robert Hess "I wake up every day hoping to meet an honest man. I go to bed disappointed almost every night" -

I suppose there is a lot of truth to that. But I do think news media and political figures were trusted more in the pre-internet days because it was so much harder to catch them in lies. Remember, I grew up in te 70's & early 80's. We didn't have the information we do these days. -

You have to admit the world is in a screwed up state these days. Is there any one, politician, media figure, etc, who can be 100% trusted if they say "This is so". I can't name one, -
How about Tennessee? I bought 24.5 acres on a river and built a house on it for $400K. That won't even get you a single family home in many areas.

I finally finished building the new rabbit house/enclosure. It's lit, heated and even has a fan in the summer and the floor drops out for easy cleaning. The rabbits, as rabbits will do, are having babies. The wife refuses to let me cook them ( not just these two but any rabbit or it's offspring) so were going to sell the kits once they are old enough. She is under the impression the folks who are looking to buy rabbits want them as pets. I see no reason not to avoid an unpleasant conversation by not disabusing her of that notion. I just said "Sure whatever".

The biggest problem with Feminism (and other political movements of it's ilk) is that when it finally achieves it's goal it doesn't go away. It just looks for it's next fight because there is money to be made grinding the axe, even when it's unnecessary or even counterproductive. Women have equal rights, equal access, equal whatever. What's the beef here?

Two words Labadal: Hot Tub. As in Jacuzzi, spa, whatever you want to call it. It's a lifetime of therapy for the cost of three chiropractor visits.

It's almost 2 AM here in TN. I'd bet most of the Americans posting on the board right now are at least a little drunk, I've lost the cap to my bottle of fine Kentucky sour mash, you know what that means.

I'm not following you? Are you going on holiday for Valentines Day? Bah, the rest of the English speaking world does not know the difference between holiday & vacation. Americans & Canadians have figured it out, what the can't the rest of you? No we're not going anywhere. In these parts a holiday is something like Christmas or Valentines day. It's a day on a calendar rather than something you actually do . I know it wasn't really, there actually was a St. Valentine, but it seems like the chocolate, greeting card and flower companies got together in a smoky room somewhere and invented a special occasion to sell their stuff. Then the completed the conspiracy by convincing the women of the world that the quality of the gift they get indicated how well the relationship is going. Okay makes sense, does Steff not like flowers and romantic things...you are a newlywed afterall ? Now before you misunderstand me when I say "romantic " things I dont mean your normal Tennessee romantic gift of a bears brain fresh from the kill or something similar. I mean something like chocolates or lingerie or perfume I can't top this!

No they are 2nd in the west, 1st in the Southwest Division I think Randolph should have gotten in as well as Gasol. Z-bo is 7th in 3pt, 4th in rebounds, 4th in DDs and he's AHEAD of Gasol in 2 of those. At least our Gasol anyway.
-
Bah. Made up holiday that no male with a significant other can afford to ignore.
-
For the ream with the 3rd best record and 1st in the west the Grizz got no love from the All Star game. Gasol was the only one to get in and he's not even our best player.
