  1. @Kilburn & Zenbane: What is your problem? I think we agree that the truth lies somewhere in between. In PoE you have too much money available too soon. That does not mean, that you shouldn't be filthy rich at some point in the game, it's just too early. I think what Zenbane tries to say is, that in a game like PoE (maybe in every game?) success shouldn't be a matter of ressources, but of strategy. At the beginning of the game this isn't possible, as you start with a very small toolbox of abilities to choose from. So you have to gather ressources to get more strategic options. If later that options become available, the game should focus on challenging the decisions you made (What abiites you choose, what armor you bought and so on) and how you make use of them. That does not mean, that ressources should become unlimited or unimportant, but you shouldn't be forced anymore to crawl every stupid box inside a dungeon for copper. (Unless you are the kind of player that enjoys playing Trial of Iron in Super-Hard-Mode with just one hand without looking at your computer monitor.) Both of you argue very extremistic, but I think both of you just want to play a balanced game, not an extremistic one. Oh, and of course there is endgame content. The game even is divided into acts. PS: I think this post is englished very bad. Sorry for that. I hope you understand what I mean.
  2. I like seeing, how the game changes over time. It's like being part of the development process. I don't get just a finished product, I can actually see why certain decisions are made and why some things work and others don't, even if they sounded right at the beginning. They dont just sell a game and say: Eat it! And it's not, that it is in Alpha State or something. It is a finished, playable game, it just gets better over time. So I actually enjoy it.
  3. Thanks! You've chosen a mysterious title, to lure people into reading your complaints. Thanks! You added a major spoiler right at the beginning, so that everyone who hasn't played the game yet doesn't have to anymore. That was very thoughtful of you. Thanks! For reminding us that games are not the reality and the rules they impose to us do not neccesarily reflect the ones, reality imposes to us. We wouldn't have realized that without your help. Thanks! For all your stupid nagging and whining about how unfair it is that you are forced to play a game that actually has some challenges. If there where no people like you, they would produce more of that. Wouldn't that be terrible? Wait... what? There are other games out there? Games with candy colored blocks and marbles? With fairies and furry animals that you can feed and that do not try to attack you? Games with orcs and demons that you can rely on being exactly one level below the level you are, so you can easily kill them by repeatedly clicking on them. What am I still doing here?
  4. Yes, I just realized that. I had an installation error, because I installed the two in the wrong order, but I think, it works now.
  5. You do realize that the budget for BG2 was nearly double the budget for PoE? And that was 1998. And that they already had the engine? You do realize that all of todays crap has budgets that are very much higher than for this game. And that this crap is produced by real big publishers that dont risk anything while Obsidian almost had to close? And that I didn't demand the same quality? This game is in many aspects better than todays ugly standards.
  6. My game is full of bugs. My frenzy still does not work and in combat there are pink boxes all over the place. Do I complain? No. Why? I never played any game since BG2. My BG2 is modded to the extreme and has more bugs than you can count. "That is not up to todays standards. The breakfast-at-starbucks-generation needs everything cut into mouth-friendly pieces." Take your todays standards and stick it up your chimney. Todays standards has brought us bug free WoW, bug free GTA and bug free ****-a-pink-zombie-pony. What does it hurt, when you notice once in a while, that the game you are playing was made by actual people?
  7. Then we need a system, in which a taunt attempt (sounds funny) can fail. I would suggest a system similar to monkey islands fights. the interaction screens could be used for that. It works this way: You hit the Taunt-Button, the interaction screen pops up. Throughout the game you learned taunts from your enemies, depending on your stats. That means, if you are an intelligent guy, you can memorize a lot of eloquent taunts, if your more of a barbarian, you can call your enemies pigs or something. The taunt only works well if it is appropriate to your enemies intelligence. Then there is a roll, depending on other stats, the enemy is engaged, if it does not fail. I think, a lot of people would find that system annoying, but screw them! They fight like cows.
  8. I hate the game, it is so boring. I hate fantasy settings. Please fix the setting. And magic, I dont want magic in the game. I want more titties in Poe2. Dwarves suck. Please fix them, I want them to be hamsters. Japanese hamsters. But no chinese hamsters. Chinese hamsters are ridiculous. I want more dragons and less dragons. I dont want to play the game with the mouse. Mouse controlled gaming is not up to todays standards. I understand that this is some kind of retro game, but mouse control? Are you serious. My **** is small. Please fix that. And remove the enemies from the game. Everytime, I start to walk around, they attack my and I get killed. Why do you do that? Are you stupid? You all suck. I want the game to play itself and I want my money back, you suckers. You are all retarded. Make another game, but a better one you idiots.
  9. I like that idea. To avoid the movement-without-turning problem, it could just be an ability. You activate it and your character starts to do it automatically. He/She fights for a while, does less damage and is slowly moving backwards. Everyone has the ability from the beginning, but it can be improved. There already are a few abilites in the game to break engagement, but there could be a whole lot more. Like: - Switching place with a companion while keeping on fighting - Moving backwards, than running - Moving backwards, than casting some type of bomb, blinding the enemy. (Rogues already have such a thing, but without blinding. In my opinion, it takes too long. Everytime I want to use it, I'm already dead, before it works. If it had some impact on the enemy, like blinding, it would be worth it)
  10. Thanks. I didn't try to kill Raedric on my first playthrough. This time I wanted to, but you spoilered that he has a "second form". I want to kill a dragon. I am no hardcore gamer. In fact I am not very good. If I made the game I would have used such enemies more sparingly (especially dragons, I would have introduced them in PoE2 and therefore made them even harder), but I want enemies that hard. If you can't handle the dragons, just let them be. I have enough of people complaining about the few fights, that were actually interesting.
  11. It could be integral to the story, but still optional. Maybe it could be an alternative to join a faction or something like that.
  12. One person is always stealthier than six. Real burglers usually burgle houses that are empty, but this is more of a spy thing. And even if the armour wouldn't make noises (It does, I use to be at medieval festivals very often. There are no loud metal noises, but clmbing with such a thing makes noise), getting Kana up a building in heavy armour isn't as stealthy as a single thief in leather armour.
  13. First, because it is not very believable, that a group of six armoured people could climb up a house, without anybody noticing it. Second, because I don't want these guys to be around. They could get caught by a randomly walking guard, while I am busy sneaking around the house. I could select one of them by accident and he walks into a trap (These kind of things are really happening to me). And I am better at sneaking, when I know, that I am ****ed, if I get caught. So when I am thiefing, I prefer to thief alone.
  14. Yes and no. They will reinvent the engine anyway. And updating PoE1 to that engine would mean modding support and the possibility for a "Big World"-like mod. Every improvement that will be made for PoE2 could be easily made available for PoE1. But I guess that this is too much work. (I would pay extra for it.)
  15. Maybe that final Expansion brings us the PoE2-Engine and rules for PoE1...
  16. 1. Combine PoE1+2 into one big game like the BG Big World Mod did. So PoE1 is automatically patched to work with the PoE2 Engine and all areas are accessible from within PoE2. (Of course they changed a bit in the meantime.)
  17. I disagree. There is not a single good romance mod for BG1 or BG2. I tried it many times. and in my opinion, there is nothing more pointless and depressing, than listening to Xan talking about chocolate cookies and the mystical elven kingdom of Arvandor. I think that the opinions about how a good game romance should be differ in a way that makes it impossible to satisfy everyone. Im convinced that I would hate what you call a good romance and that you would hate what I would consider a good romance either (Did you know that Amaua have sharp hooks on their penises?). And in general I don't want to know about the sex life of those tiny game characters. It is ridiculous and in my opinion (as you would say) immersion breaking.
  18. - Again: Better enemy AI! - Crafting as a skill, like Edwin described it: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/64048-update-58-crafting-with-tim-cain/page-32 - Tons of tiny sidequest (Help me creating a butter golem, Could you please rescue my beaver, Would you mind killing my husband, ...) - Spells should be useful out of combat. (E.g. for enchanting a guard to let you through) - Pickpocketing - In general, I want non-combat-solutions for almost everything. I want to lure enemies away from their spots, steal things that I need (That f***ing armour from that paladin f***er), enchant merchants for better prices ...
  19. I still want better enemy AI! The enemies aren't that stupid anymore, but stupid enough. Kiting is still possible and happens often unwanted. I just try to keep some distance and the enemies start to walk a few steps towards me, then turn around, then they try to attack me again and so forth... It would be very cool, if they would actually react to my "kiting attempt". Lets say, I try to lure an ogre out of his cave. Maybe he notices it and next time he is standing directly behind the doorway and attacks me, when I try to get in. Then, why is every enemy now trying to attack my casters? Are spiders really clever enough to know that they are a threat? Since the AI-Improvements, I expected the enemies to have more diverse tactics. I thought, maybe ghosts and kith are clever enough to attack my backranks, but spiders are simple creatures and should attack just the characters that stand nearby. But they still act all the same. They are just a bit harder to defeat, but every fight is similar. In my opinion, the point isn't just to make the AI more intelligent in general. It is about new challenges for every fight, so I have the need to change my tactics accordingly. The different enemy groups maybe should have specific "goals" for the combat. Humans and Kith in general want to defeat the group. So they would act tactical. Trying to get rid of casters and guys with bows. Wolf and lions want to eat, so they could try to attack the weakest group members, like they would do in real life. Maybe spiders like orlan meat, so they always attack orlans first. That kind of stuff.
  20. I liked the companion interaction in the tutorial mission. They really had their own head, that was quite interesting. I want to see more of that and I wouldn't mind, if it really impacted gameplay, because the companions simply refuse to do this or that or want to do somthing else.
  21. If PoE ever gets that epic (Which I hope, it does not), I want to help Durance kill his goddess.
