Lord_Mord replied to Skyleaf's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Was I sarcastic? Didn't notice. So what is this discussion about? Nobody gets sexualised in Pillars (Well not exactly. Durance sexualizes women. Probably other characters, too. But the game itself doesn't.). No problem. Even if every companion was female. Still no problem. Then why the endless discussion about how many women play games? Where should that lead? -

That's a K.O. I have to admit you were right. WE are the sex objects here. Excuse me, I'm afk for a while. Have to burn my bra. -

My comment wasn't directed towards you alone. What are we talking about here? The topic was the ratio male/female characters in games similar to PoE. Now we are talking about if there are enough women playing those games to justify more female characters. That's absurd. These games are played by women too. Just look in the forum. And even if not: What is the problem with female chracters? Why do you need statistical evidence that women play the game too? We are not talking about pink fluffy unicorns. We are talking about female characters. Oh and regarding the big breasted killer machines: What did I think writing that? You are right. Those don't exist. Obviously just a cliche about the gaming industry. -

So be it. Games tailored to men are dumb games anyway. This game is not. Not dominated by men, not tailored to men, not dumb. I'm beginning to ask myself, what this discussion is about? Do you want to have less female characters, because you think this is a "male game"? -
I hope that does not mean dead baby world suddenly completely changed into Baldurs-Gate-world. There has to be lots of grim, sad and creepy stuff in it (And I don't consider Necromancer-Chan creepy in any kind of way). Otherwise I'm pissed. Pillar's tone and setting was the only reason I made a higher pledge this time, than I did for Part 1. You know mad watchers, hangman trees, crazy primitive idiots killing each other.

Who said a dik-dik isn't? -
A while ago the discussion came up, wether or not the term "bastards" already was used in PoE1. It was. Quite frequently indead. Iselmyr shouts something with bastards. I thinks it's when you attack or somebody dies. I don't know what she's saying. I don't understand her because my english is too bad and I didn't read the subtitles, but it clearly has a similar meaning as in reality

My wife also plays video games. I wouldn't call her a gamer, but together we played through BG (Big World Megamod-Thingy, multiplayer) many times. Currently she's playing Tyranny and Pillars again. She's not active in forums and stuff or posting anything about it, she does not play online to get achievements. That means you don't notice her online as a female player. But she plays and I guess one of the reasons she enjoys these games is that women in these games are not either big breasted killer machines in bikinis or stereotypical little girls. And she also likes Durance . That you can't see a lot of female gamers online does not mean they are not there. This kind of game is some kind of a niche, because it is not clearly headed into a boys/girls-only direction. I think this is a good thing and one of the reasons these games are clearly better than the rest. -

Am I the only one that immediately thought about the lim-lim? -
No, but don't use words like ugly. Just imagine, you created this thing. That is no thoughtful criticism. Also: "I think the flavour of the game in my opinion is this and that, so it has to look like this and that" is no thoughtful criticism. I think the Obsidian art department knows best, what's the flavour of the game, don't you think? And after all this is a matter of taste, you can't criticise taste. I very much dont like a lot of things about PoE2 so far, especially the companions. I even started a thread about it. But I would never ever state that something has to be a certain way.

Actually it's quite fun. And it is very reassuring, that indeed people noticed that it's not OK. I thought, apart from some item and stats names, noone would care. What I meant was: I have no time for doing translations. My problem with installing the mod is: I think this should not be neccessary. Obsidian could at least put your corrections into the official game. But I can't understand why translations were done wrong in the first place. It's a shame. This is what I'm complaining about. Maybe complaining is the wrong word. I want to see it done better for PoE2. But I think Obsidian either is not aware, how bad the problem is or they don't care, which would be very sad, because it would mean they quietly accept the crippling of their creation in other countries. Edit: And as I said: Personally I play the game in English. But maybe in the future I'll switch to German from time to time and let you know, if I find something

I'm currently reading through that 52 pages. That's a whole lot of great work. Maybe that could somehow used to build up the translation for PoE2? Of course it wouldn't help for story and dialogue, but at least the core system would make more sense from the beginning. I could imagine that Obsidian would tell the translation company to use your vocabulary... ?

Because I'm a grown up person and don't have time for this anymore. This is not just a phrase. I barely have time for the more important things in my life. And why should I? Translations with acceptable quality used to be the norm and I want companies to care for that again. The PoE team seems to care about language too, so I just wanted to point out the incredibly bad quality of the translations. Maybe if people here would stop to play those problems down, they would notice that this is a serious problem. Why should it be the task of the players to take care of that? So why is everybody angry at me? All the time, people in this forum whine and complain about incredibly stupid things, like not being able to personalize this or that, like how boring certain things are but if somebody comes and tries to point out, that the most important part of the game – storytelling – is broken for many players he is treated like a whiny kid. Edit: And yes, I play with the original texts. The days, when I crawled the internet for mods are also over. I just expect that if I buy a game, it will at least be readable.
