  1. But party AI doesn't stop you from using micromanagement. You can still order them around in whatever way you want, even if you don't outright turn it off. I liked the combat so far and had no real problems with it, but being able to equip my guys with more complex routines they can also execute automatically might really come in handy. I didn't say it would stop me, I just wondered, why anybody would use it. There are, at least in my opinion, more urgent matters. But I got my answers and I think, I understand now. I always thought of it as a game playing itself, but I missed the point. I still wouldn't use it, but at least I know, why people wanted that.
  2. This is a little bit off-topic, but I'm curious: Why do so many people want party AI? Isn't that sort of game about micromanagement? Isn't it boring to control just the main character? I find it annoying too, that my party members stop attacking, when their target is dead, but for me it would be enough, if they would continue with their last given task until I tell them to stop.
  3. Guess that depends on the way you play, too. I never use abilites at all. I don't even know what kinds of abilities thiefs get on higher levels. I don't backstab or something. If I play Jan, I'm just using his illusion spells to trick enemies. If I play with Xan on the other hand, I just use mind tricks and so on. I try not to min/max, ignore ways to make mages invulnerable and don't use abilities that are in my opinion no fun. So I don't care if he's weak, I play him as he was. But that's impossible in PoE. You just have to kill everyone. And you have to use your spells to make damage, damage, damage. Using anything except for Minorettas Whatever is just a stupid idea in that game.
  4. Maybe I'm not normal, but I don't play a class, because it's useful (When you say useful, I guess you mean it is useful in combat). I play it just for the sake of playing it. Buffing and Debuffing some mathematical values is so boring. I see those games more in the way I see Monkey Island or a Choose your own Adventure-Book. You get some skills and some items and see, what you can do with them. I seldom use multiclass for my thief. Same for Class Kits like Swashbuckler and stuff. I think being a weakling is the main reason to be a thief, otherwise I would have become an assassin. I always liked to play weak characters and see how far I can get with that. My favourite character for example was Xan, whom a lot of people found too weak. You could achieve a lot with Xan, if you were creative. I can easily beat a modded BG1+2 with just Xan and a thief. Or Jan. Playing with Jan is so tricky and so much fun. You could built your own army of Jan copies, so you didn't have to send him in combat where he would die instantly. In PoE that would be impossible as there are a lot of situations where you can't avoid combat and the combat itself is so limited. Edit: Oh, and I don't want to pickpocket just for the money. I want it as a way to solve quests and just for the sake of doing it. Immersion and stuff.
  5. It is not my problem, that some people don't know how to play videogames. I want pickpocketing. What is the point of playing a thief, if he can't steal? This is the only game that I own (I don't own much), in which I don't want to play a thief.
  6. @Falcon Swiftblade: Speaking about bottomless pits: How shall the donkey follow the group into one of those? How do they get it down the stairs or travel through underwater tunnels and that kind of stuff.
  7. Same thing here with the adra dragon. She attacked me the first time. Of course I died soon, so I had to reload. Now she's just standing around, making her fear aura and turning her head in my direction, sometimes walking towards me. Reload does not fix it. Sometimes after a reload she attacks me, but suddenly stops. The other enemies in that area are fighting properly, even if I attack the adra dragon, they are coming to help.
  8. I found out, that sometimes she's attacking, but suddenly stops. Then she just stays around and makes nothing.
  9. Another thing: Why is there no confusion spell, that doesn't make enemies attack each other? I often try to avoid fights by charming the enemies (Especially animals, I see no point in slaughtering the wildlife of a whole forest). But in PoE that leads to a massacre.
  10. I have the same problem, but I can't pick up the Eder-Battlefield-Thingy anymore, because it's not there and I cant talk to the guy in the ducs palace. The Eder quest is finished in the journal and Roska does not appear. Any idea?
  11. I miss options in general. In BG I could do a lot more roleplaying outside of the dialogues. Example (Not very important spoiler): To get to the whore in the salty mast, you have to pay 1000. I tried to enchant the guards, trick the guards, nothing. You can either pay, or kill everyone. In BG there where a lot of situations where you could use different tactics to reach your goal. For example getting the mantle from the fat guy in Beregost. You could kill him, enchant him, steal it from him or talk with him. Or guards in BG: You could always enchant them or try to sneak around them. (The guard in the copper coronet for example) In general it was always a good idea in BG, to try some spells. In PoE spells are useless out of combat. Why did I become a mage, if I can do nothing but killing people? Then inside the dialogue of PoE you often reach an unneccessary dead end. (Spoiler). You try to get that armour for that guy (You know who I mean?). The other guy refuses and if you choose the wrong options you end up in the situation, that you don't have the armour, a lot of guys are angry at you and you can't even talk to the guy that has the armour. He suddenly treats you as his best friend and you can't even threaten him (The only option left is killing him without warning, I think that's a little bit extreme and I didn't try and I fear it won't even lead to the angry guys liking you again.). That feels somehow unsatisfying.
  12. What I think was the most fun thing about crafting in Baldurs Gate, is that the items you crafted felt special. I don't care much about what they did (making X fire damage), I mostly care about that it felt magic. One Part of it was, that their properties matched their history (This is also the case in PoE, even if it somehow does not always feel that way. The 1.05 patch made some of the items more interesting, I want more of that). The other (more important) part was, how they were created. Some of them were parts of magical weapons found all over the world. Some needed very special items. Collecting some stones and body parts is something, every pig farmer can do. But if the receipe tells you: "Find the head of a lich" or "Bring me the tears of a dryad" (And I know, I won't find those things in every pile of junk, a dead enemy leaves behind) it becomes an interesting and sometimes challenging quest. I would prefer a combination of the two: You find receipes and you need a smith or mighty magician, to enchant or craft something (That is totally necessary). Some receipes are rather simple (PoE-Style. Collect this and that kind of plant, a gem, a potion, whatever). In that case you can get a slight buff for your weapon. Does not matter which weapon. Some receipes are more interesting (You need a certain item/weapon and more interesting/unique ingredients). In return you get a very unique and interesting item (Eiher it is very strong or very interesting, because maybe it has some unique ability that you can't get in another way inside the game. Summoning some special character, crazy teleporting stuff, I don't know). And most of all: The receipes should make sense. The 1 plant, 1 bodypart, 1 gem thing is kind of stupid. Why are that always the ingredients? And if it must be this way: Why the hell do I need a vithracks brain, to give my armour a better quality? I f the result would be +2 Intellect, that would make much more sense. I get the feeling, that the person who thought this out, was thinking more about balance than what names and icons the ingredients would have. And that is what the enchanting system currently is: A bunch of random names and icons. That does not mean, I totally dislike it. It just feels very random to me.
  13. That was not intended. I usually don't post anything anywhere, except for a certain BG forum. I just needed an example of a bad thing that made a lot of money.
  14. Yes, I liked that, too. Would make the crafting system less ... boring.
  15. With inflation Interview has made $167,712,375.01. It was released in 1994, and you have to take into account lower ticket prices, less overall money earned by people (even with inflation they earned less than people nowadays do, so less expendable cash), the film being old when Blu Ray came out, meaning only the more hardcore fans bought it as opposed to Twilight which came out when blu ray was already established, etc. With those considerations $25 million does not seem that big a difference. OK, I try again: Let the right one in made $2,122,065 Obviously, Twilight is the better movie.
  16. Interview with a vampire made $105,264,608 Twilight made $192,769,854 I didn't calculate inflation, the difference isn't that much and I don't like Interview with a vampire that much, but I think, you get the point.
  17. I asked myself the whole time, why anybody would write so much text and then force the player into specific dialogue options. Now I know. Edit: That doesn't mean, I don't like the voice acting. It's brilliant. We just need a whole lot of more of it.
  18. That's true, but it will take some time until they improve the AI, I think. To the above posters: As I said, I like the chant (Summoning ogres is cool), I want to use it and just want it to be not totally overpowered. There are other AI problems that are easily exploitable, but I can ignore them and change my style of play. But in that case, it is a question of using the chant, or not. That's inacceptable. I'm playing on hard. That should be enough to expect a normal fight. The game should not be imbalanced on every difficulty except PotD. Personally I came to the conclusion, that the ogres should have a shorter livespan. Not be weaker, just disappear after some time. Making it a higher level chant (even in the expansion) would also be OK for me. Or maybe it's one stronger siamese ogre
