Uh, the US dropping the atom bomb did not cause the cold war. It only showed the world what kind of weapons the US had, which resulted in an arms race between the only two nations that had "superpower" status after WWII. The exploitation of the middle east, (I'm guessing you're referring to the whole oil thing), started when oil was found there. Not as a result of the cold war. The invasion of Afghanistan was a military invasion, not a series of acts made to cause fear in the general population, which is one of the points of terrorism. Same thing for Vietnam. It was war, not terrorism. EDIT: Hah! It seems I've contradicted myself quite well: "Uh, the US dropping the atom bomb did not cause the cold war. It only showed the world what kind of weapons the US had, which resulted in an arms race between the only two nations that had "superpower" status after WWII." Not an intentional contradiction, but I guess I should explain myself: What I meant to say is that the arms race was inevitable. It would have started sooner or later and the bomb acted as a catalyst, not a cause.

I wouldn't say that the atom bomb has anything to do with terrorism. For something to be called terrorism then the acts involved with it have to be conducted over a prolonged period of time and with a certain aim. The atom bomb had an aim, but it "only" happened twice, in the span of a year, IIRC. How long have the IRA or the fundamentalists in Israel/Palestine been around?

The KOTOR community pulling a Carth?
draakh_kimera replied to Ace's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yes, thats why the how it is done becomes important. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly! But Volourn does have a point when he says that the games are quite similar: Both games follow almost exactly the same pattern! Start here, meet the mentor figure, find out a bit of whats going on, go "collect stuff" to get the whole picture, then go to some previously unknown destination where the game is concluded. -
The KOTOR community pulling a Carth?
draakh_kimera replied to Ace's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The concept of go around and "collect stuff" applies to most RPG's doesn't it? It's just that the "stuff" can be whatever, people, info, items...It's just done in different ways and in different environments. -
That's so wrong, but at the same time f--ken hilarious!!

Okay, about the whole atom bomb thing, here's what I have to say: The civilians don't know what they're "signing in" for, but civilian casualties in war is a given. If what B5C quoted wikipedia of stating is accurate (which I highly doubt it isn't), then the civilian casualties were collateral damage as a result of a deliberate attack against a military target. To quoute wikipedia, there is no clear line between collateral damage and atrocities. However, the US made one of the more tactically advantageous moves that was available (they ended the war quicker and didn't lose as many troops as they could have), and that's what war is usually about. As for terrorism, I sure as hell wouldn't know how to define it but I think Kaftan did a pretty good job of it.

There's a scene in the first Tarzan movie (before Johnny Weismuller, this was a silent film) where Tarzan kills a lion bare-handed. What most people don't know, though, is that the actor really killed the lion. The lion lost it, and the trainers couldn't get it to back down, and it tried to kill the actor. The actor (whose name I forget, but he was a wrestler before he became Tarzan) got him in a bearhug and broke his back while he was being clawed and bitten. Yes, it was an older lion, but it still weighed more than twice the actor and had its teeth and claws. It remains, to this day, one of the most impressive feats of film in history IMO. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Heh, I guess the question is, what state was the lion in due to its life in captivity? Of course, an impressive feat nonetheless... Anyway, back on topic, I'm not sure I read anything about the pain tolerance of animals. It is way higher than a human's tolerance, so there is another advantage to the chimp. Also, chimps may not be rational, but do they not have some combat/hunting instinct? What I mean is, most predators (on land) usually go for either throat, hamstring, or ankle, or something, that sort of thing... Anyway, I still have no clue where I'd put my money.

Lay off Obsidian, already!
draakh_kimera replied to Hannigaholic's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
(Almost) no blame in this post, just what i thought hampered the game's development a bit: LA: They gave the developers a short amount of time, and didn't want to push the deadline to to make the game more "whole." Obsidian: They accepted the schedule. Of course, there aren't that many reasons that I can think of for them not wanting to. They were given the oppurtunity to make the sequel of a greatly succesful game as their first title, but, it could be because it was their first title and that Obsidian is a new company that they were not able to negotiate a postponed deadline. Who knows? If any of the above is true, than everything was business. I doubt that anyone chose to cut the game for the sake of cutting it, and thus I don't blame anyone. If I had to blame anything, it would be people's expectations, of which some were amusingly high. -
I'm 19, probably immature, and I already have problems with my back. Damn.

First off, just had to say this: take your own advice vxronin. If I were to judge you by the content of your posts that I've read, I'd say you don't posses the ability of abstract thinking when you're trying to deal with any form of personal dissappointment. You have not contributed anything of use to this community. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that most of the serious posters that are critical of KotOR2 would agree. So, in conclusion, take your own advice: either start trying to create constructive arguments and recognize the good aspects of the game, or, take a hike. I'm guessing the above might constitute as "trolling." All I have to say about that is, in your own words, deal with it. Back on topic however, I must honestly say that I don't have any real complaints. I don't play games that much, but judging from what I've heard of recent RPGs and games I have played, KotOR2 beats a LOT. Sure, it had its flaws, but what game doesn't? It had, IMO, several vast improvements over KotOR1, and the story was, to me, much better. No joke. It was damn good. The last game I played with a better story was Fallout (I never played PS:T ), and that's saying something. Anyway, I'm not gonna regurgitate all the good things about the game that other people have said (though I've probably already regurgitated some )...

A strange Question...
draakh_kimera replied to The Swedish Dark Lord III's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Dude, if you post a question like that here, or most probably at any forum, expect to get screwed around with. As for the question, I guess they don't decloak but rather it the cloaking goes away when you attack. Kinda like when your PC attacks when s/he's cloaked. It just goes away. -
And how exactly are those things more important than a game? Man, I just love it when people give come in and provide insightful advice about life like that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It makes your life more social. What would you rather do, go spend the whole night in front of a computer, or go out and spend time with good friends, have a good time? If you want the former, thats fine, but I know I wouldn't want to. What my point with the previous post is, is that this whole issue has been completely been blown out of proportion. Not only by people who want the ending back, but also the by the people who said screw you obsidian, you suck and deserve herpes. manitsbuggy, please tell me where I told everyone to shut up. Or if I even implied it. As for me wanting attention, no, that's not the intention of that post. My intention was, as I stated, to further stir up the s--tstack. Now how about you answer my question? Hell, you don't have to post what you think, all I'm asking is this: Ask yourself, does it really mean that much to you, 50 bucks spent on a game you might not be satisfied with? Or would that be asking to much? And yes. The post was offensive. So what?
-
Best damn reply in 40 pages of complete speculation and opinions. To further stir up the s--tstack, let me pose the following question: Does the game, the 50 bucks you spent on it, really matter this much too you? Honestly, does it REALLY mean that much, to anyone, in the long run? Has anyone suffered an identity crisis because of this ending yet? Yeah, some of you might think I'm coming across as pretty offensive, well, deal with it. It's just a game. Go drink beer. Or smoke a blunt. There's more important things to worry about then a game...
