Well, a new pope has been elected: BBC News Looks like he's a german conservative, so I guess that means continued conflict with abortion, homosexuality, women priests and such. I'm kinda neutral to all this, what are your reactions?
-
Where'd you get that? OT: Uhh, wheelbite at high speed causes some nasty road rash.
-
I'm not sure about this one: It's impossible to fold a sheet of paper over itself (short end to short end) more than seven times, no matter what size or thickness it is.

...So, can I use the "everyone must die" sig ) ? -
I heard about that series, and read somewhere that it's not really your typical fantasy book. Wanna tell a bit about them? OT: I have yet to read a fantasy novel/series that had a lasting impression, but then again, I'm more drawn to classic literature...

Not to mention that way too many black/death metal bands sound pretty much the same nowadays.. -
I am not calling you a racist. But what you think of how non-US citizens should be treated is comparable to the persecution of the Jews by the Nazis. And the consequences of such short-sighted politics has become evident.
-
That sounds very similar (not as open or explicit, but built on similar grounds), to how a certain group of people were treated by the nazis during the second world war <_< Also, it's interesting how americans tend to "forget" how several problems with dictators and terrorists were at first supported by them, like Saddam, bin Laden, Pinochet, there's more...

Listening to Hypocrisy - 10 years of chaos and confusion. I think I'm having a relapse towards death metal. Hmm. -
That reasoning is somewhat erraneous. If you look at the UNHDI you'll find what's internationally accepted as factors of a countries "rank." As for space shuttles and satellites, that has nothing to do with a countries status. The USSR had satellites and people in space too. Also, I just had to comment a bit about the US standard of living. Standard of living is quite subjective, so how bout we go with the HDI rank, okay? That puts you at 8th place, not second. Not that that's bad, but it isn't second The EU, or europe more righteously said, has depended on the US military power in the past. Not at the moment, but that is a result of the current political situation in the world. Also, socialistic countries tend to dismiss the importance of a military power (at least sweden does), and they do not use the US' power as an excuse. Will the EU depend on US power in the future? Perhaps. Perhaps not. It all depends on how things play out in Russia, and perhaps China, though that's gonna be decades from now.

Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age nearly done!
draakh_kimera replied to Wynne's topic in Computer and Console
Cool! I actually found out about this project like a year ago or something, the "completion meter" was at 65% or something. Tell me more about it. Is the gameplay going to be pretty much like Thief II or different? What are the new weapons? What are the new enemies? What's the expected playtime? Any other mods I should take a look at? Sorry for all the questions, but I REALLY like the Thief series (even though I haven't played Thief I :"> ) Oh, and props to the people working on it, it looks massive! -
@B5C: I'm for the war in Iraq, but some things were pretty badly done. One example of this is the disbandment (is that the right word?) of the Iraqi army. Not all of them were in support of Saddam, they had to make a living somehow. And then the US disbanded the army, which meant no money for food and living. Couple the dismay of that decision with military training and you're asking for trouble. IMO they should have reformed the army, not disbanded it. Also, an interesting thing is that whenever the US buys oil from Saudi Arabia they indirectly finance terrorist organisations to some degree. How? Well, it's like this, around half the profits, if not more, of oil revenues most commonly go to more powerful saudis. Though saudi officials may have a west-friendly attitude, the attitude of some people there is very different (this I know, having lived there for 8 years). This includes said people of wealth, and their way of expressing this is by financing terrorists. As for democratic reforms, well, that's probably gonna take a while. They still had public punishment and execution when I left, about four years ago, and to be brutally honest, that's comparable to europe about 300 years ago...[/end rant] Oh, and yes, one can have sex with protection and not use the morning after pill, but it's a better contraceptive, and, uh, using condoms is less nice than without using 'em.

Don't try to argue with taks. He's got a pretty good grasp of some socio-economics, but he did once say that sweden was more capitalist than the US "

I've never really understood why black people are called african americans. Sure, their great great ancestors were from africa, but black people living in america are americans, and as far as I've understood, saying that a black person is black isn't politically incorrect (BTW is Negroe politically incorrect?) You might as well call white americans "european americans," cause their great ancestors were european. If you wanna get even more picky you could say enlish-american or dutch-american or swedish-american etc. OT: I went to an english and then an american school from the age of 6, and then I started french in 7th grade I think, but I've forgotten most of it..

How do you use "Force Camouflage"?
draakh_kimera replied to romeo_longsword's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You put skill points into stealth and if you have force camouflage then you don't need a stealth thingy to enter stealth mode. -
Actually, IIRC, Bush lowered the taxes during a time of war. That will ALWAYS have a negative effect on a country's economy. Also, low taxes do not neccesarily bring good economy. Here is an example of a Laffer curve, which demonstrates the efficiency of taxes: The problem is finding the optimal tax level, which varies from country to country and with the current economic situation. As for the social democracy of the scandinavian countries, I think it's a "nice" ideal, but in some cases I think certain things, like child support (I'm not sure how to say it) is a bit too high. Over 100 USD a month per child in the family? Also, I've heard people with a really lousy job sometimes actually profit by becoming unemployed. Then there's the issue of sick pay. I can't remember the exact figures but it's pretty high here, and the fact that many people cheat with it isn't that great either. There's more to complain about, but then again, you gotta take the good with the bad.

Don't mean to butt in, but how is denmark taking a right turn? and how effective is the healthcare system in scandinavia? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> About Denmark, if I've understood correctley the current party in power is more to the right, or perhaps it would be better to say less to the left, than the previous one. As for why it's called a right turn, well, the scandinavian countries, at least Sweden, have been quite far to the left in the past. As for the healthcare system, the Swedish one is bogged down by administration and bureaucracy. There's a shortage of proffesional doctors and when my grandfather who's 85 had to go to the hospital a while ago he had to wait for about 10 hours before meeting a doctor. Is this a result of social democracy? Perhaps partially. Most of the social democrat politicians here are completely incompetent, so that has probably had some part in it, doctors have a much more attractive salary abroad because of our tax system, and several people have made a career of making the healthcare system a bureaucracy. I don't really know enough to say anything else.

When I was a little kid, like 5 or so, I was in a zoo in Thailand. The monkey cages there didn't have roofs, and all of a sudden a friggin' gibbon monkey lands on my shoulder while I walk by, I fall over, and the monkey runs away. That was kinda weird.

First off, a tip to Azure: don't get Thief 3. It's okay, but it was waaay too easy, at least compared to Theif II. I finished it on expert level the first time through without any problems. I still haven't beaten Thief II, on any level. Also, even though the "world" in Thief 3 was more "open," it felt more linear than Thief 2. As for games I'm playing, I have a game of KotOR II that I haven't touched for about a month, but maybe I'll get back to it, if I can be bothered. Other than that, nothing.
