If romances are included
Meshugger replied to zrani's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Truth to be told though. The older you get, more intricate or and complicated romances become. Simple teenage infatuation would really hit the wrong nerve if the story is presented to be of an adult nature. Keep it simply as subtle as possible. -
If romances are included
Meshugger replied to zrani's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No romance. Just pure, unadulterated feral sex. Where every sick and disturbed fantasy is revelled in until the last fight, where every carnal need and lust is satiated...... ...whops, wrong forum! -
This is silly
Meshugger replied to gongal's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I do not think that anyone at Obsidian or here at the forum takes those kinds of suggestions seriously. They pretty much go (except the last one) against the original intent posted in the announcement-video. But i am a hopeless optimist at times. -
Composer for Eternity?
Meshugger replied to MechanicalLemon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Clint Mansell is probably more expensive than Jeremy Soule. Mark Morgan for nostalgia-reasons in my case, but if what i really want is a composer that understands the setting and the general atmosphere that the game is going for. Therefore, i would vote for Alexander Brandon, what he did Mask of the Betrayer, Deus Ex and Unreal made half the game for me. -
Death
Meshugger replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Make ressurection/raise dead a high-level spell, only achievable through the highest tier of magic. Also like Monte stated, this game is about souls apparently, then let there be some punishment as well. Souls need their final rest as well.- 81 replies

Gameplay lenght
Meshugger replied to Hellion's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well, if it is intended to be a long epic journey of self-discovery or whatnot, then of course it should be reflected in the length of the game. Or on the other hand, the goal is to be a gaming experience equivalent of an orgasm, then of course it should be done in an explosive burst. But you want to play another round soon enough. Point being, as long as the length is consistent to its 'grandness', then either way for me. -
Oh, here's a critical input: Lets say that in the lands of Eternity, there's a strong tradition in rug cleaning every 5th day. It is bound to the local culture, it is there in the myths and stories that the bards sing in taverns at night and the streets in the day. Festivals are celebrated in terms of the fastest cleaner, best cleaning compound and so on. When we have that premise, please do not: 1) Add a character in the party or the world that do not believe in rug cleaning without consequences. Make the character constantly question the rug cleaning tradition and be questioned himself/herself for not participating in the festivities surrounding it. If anyone breaks the local custom, let there be consequences. 2) Add a local moral code that makes sense in the world that you are creating. Avoid applying standards that we see in our western society that is in conflict with the world that you are creating, otherwise the results are just jarring and dishonest. For example: It is a moral imperative in rug cleaning-land that the men clean the rug and the women prepare the compund for cleaning. Breaking this is social taboo that in some villages might lead to a hanging. The very moment the player suggest that everyone should be able to participate according the best of their abilities, expect a heated debate that might lead to the player fleeing the village, or the player admitting his or hers ignorance and begging for forgiveness to the local high council. 3) If the player seeks to bring social change, like changing the tradition of rug cleaning to rat flaying every 6th day, then let it happen organically according to how the customs are in the world you are creating. People might die, there might even be a revolution. Let the player see the results of his or hers personal philosophy applied to others and the world. Point being, make sure that world makes sense in the context that you create it.

I expect Josh & Co do the following: - Understand the difference between senseless pandering and actual sensible critical input. Many of the suggestions here are pretty much hollow and superficial that adds nothing to the game at best. - Do not change the original intent of the game. You guys design it, we decide to pay with our wallets or not in advance. The community only offers critique, we should not change the design itself. Otherwise, it is not *your* game anymore. Do that, and it will turn out fine.

. X . X X . T X = ETERNITY?
Meshugger replied to Venctin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Threads like these always get me more interested in the hype itself, rather than the game it is promoting. -
Wait, you're telling me these people are OUTBREEDING us? I hope the rate of conversion to atheism per family is higher than the birth rate! I know you are joking around, but atheism is never going to win the numbers game here. The main problem is it doesn't offer any support network. Who does an atheist turn to when times are tough? People want that sense of community, and that seems to be the antithesis of atheism. Errr, family and friends like everyone else?

From now on, i will enter all executive meetings...gungman style.

That was just sad.

I like that he is played by a black dude. This is the ultimative troll attack. I challange the South African broadcast TV to one up this one and cast Rutger Hauer for the role of Nelson Mandela. Also, the movie should be shot in Belgium.

Considering that most people weren't even aware that OnLive was even in operating status until now says a lot too.

God bless America This movie is too dangerous to watch for most people. The lingering feeling of fulfillness, love and serenity would be too much for anyone's mind. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEFj0Pngu_E

Considering Obama's stance on Iran, i would like to tip my hat to The Who's song "Won't get fooled again". Meet the new boss, same boss as the old boss, indeed. Thanks for the answers about Ryan everyone, but i think that i have found the most incriminating one: So unless the guy has had the same experience of self-discovery and true nature of himself as the nameless one in Planescape: Torment, i can already bet that he is an oppurtunist of the higher order that doesn't really, deep down, believe in anything. ...Meet the new boss......

Before anyone blows their fuses over that article, bear in mind that critic is the same guy that made Naked Lunch and Videodrome. Memento is a "simple" movie compared to those.
-
Btw, could someone please give some reflection on this Paul Ryan guy? The news only talk about him being from wisconsin and that he's there to attract the teaparty-block.

What's lacking the media is serious investigative journalism. Currently, it's out in the fringes, instead of where it should be, in the forefront of every major broadcasting network.

Exactly. They should've played 'Aces High', complete with the Churchill-speech in the very beginning. Anyhoo, probably the best olympic ending ceremony that i have seen in my life. Several thumbs up (I am a bit of an anglophile though).

I just read all the five books of the a song of ice and fire-series. Now what to do? :-/ Remember the words: "Red Wedding"

No, you are completely wrong. Free speech is a double edged sword, meaning that you also have to deal with opinions that socially inexcusable. You are not for free speech per se, but rather for non-offensive speech, usually bound to different layers of code of correctness. Atleast Tigranes was honest about non being pro-free speech. This is exactly what i was talking about in my previous post. Kinda relevant:

Jesus christ, all this "we have to regulate free speech because it is [insert silly reason here]"-talk hasn't changed in any medium since Voltaire. And each and every time it fails miserably on a fundemental level. Why? because every time you try to enforce "good values" you end up corrupting them. Take any good creed like selflessness, rectitude or benevolence and instantiate them as a code of conduct. Before you know it, you get punishment for not being benevolent or righteouss enough and the the whole point of these values are completely rendered null. Just realize that you are not for free speech, but rather for "nice" speech instead. End the hypocrisy already. So what if there are douchebags, twits, idiots, nutcases and downright evil beings out there spewing their vile and putrid opinions? There's an equal amount thought-provoking and profound material out there, only to be found in an enviroment where you can say exactly what you want. Just let it go, and don't destroy something that is beautiful, again.
