  1. Hi everyone. After several years I returned to Pillars of Eternity and noticed that this forum is missing a little bit more detailed companion builds. So I thought I would try to change that. I also think that maybe because of Avowed there will be more people going back to Pillars of Eternity. I hope that I am not blind and that other people have not already posted the same companion builds. I will start with Kana. --- Difficulty: PotD -------------------------------------------------------------- Class: Chanter -------------------------------------------------------------- Game Version: 3.0+ -------------------------------------------------------------- Race: Island Aumaua -------------------------------------------------------------- Background: Rauatai - Scholar -------------------------------------------------------------- Skills: Lore 12 (base 8, +2 Chanter, + 2 Scholar), Survival 6, Athletics the rest --- Kana can be found standing outside of Caed Nua. At character creation, Chanters select two Phrases and one Invocation. Kana at level 1 automatically chooses (you can't change that): phrases - Blessed Was Wengridh, Quickest of His Tribe and At the Sight of their Comrades, their Hearts Grew Bold invocation - If their Bones Still Slept Under that Hill, None Can Say So you start leveling Kana from level 2 onwards. Phrases at lvl 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15. Invocations and Talents at lvl 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16. Level 1: Automatic Level 2: The Thunder Rolled Like Waves on Black Seas, Ancient Memory Level 3: Dull the Edge Level 4: White Worms, Weapon Focus Soldier Level 5: Sure-Handed Ila Level 6: At the Sound of His Voice, Gunner Level 7: One Dozen Stood Level 8: The Lover Cried out to the Beloved, Runner's Wounding Shot Level 9: Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr Level 10: The Bride Caught their Ruse, Marksman Level 11: Rime and Frost Followed Level 12: Oh But Knock Not, Envenomed Strike Level 13: They Shielded Their Eyes Level 14: So Singt thy Biting Winds, Apprentice's Sneak Attack Level 15: With All Your Strength Level 16: Called to His Bidding, Beast Slayer OR Secrets of Rime --- White Worms Writhed in the Bellies of the Dead is an AMAZING early game Invocation. It's basically corpse explosion Just take advatage of chokepoints with your tank and as bodies pile up you can cast White Worms and deal a lot of damage. You can even lure enemies to places where you already have some bodies prepared. Just be aware that if you reload, bodies will dissapear. You can even deal nicely with the Raedric fight thanks to White Worms Writhed in the Bellies of the Dead. Before you start the fight with Raedric, pull the group of enemeis behind the door to the left of the throne room and lure them to the bedroom door on the right. Chanter can turn on Blessed Was Wengridh for Move Speed. Watch out for the Web spell. Priest at level 5 has Prayer Against Restraint or send someone who can be knocked out for the duration of the fight. Afterwards pull Raedric to the same spot and spam White Worms. I picked Sure-Handed Ila Nocked Her Arrows with Speed because my main character was ranged Cipher. Feel free to pick whatever you want instead or keep it. At the Sound of His Voice, the Killers Froze Stiff paralyzes in AoE and foes only. You will use it majority of the game. One Dozen Stood Against the Power of the Saint is pretty good against Dragons, Lions or anyone with Frightened/Terrified attacks. Rime and Frost Followed is for the burning house interaction in Stalwart and Cayron's Scar ending interaction They Shielded Their Eyes 'Gainst the Fampyr's Gaze is "surprisingly" good against Fampyrs or anyone who is trying to Confuse, Charm, Dominate your party. With All Your Strength Slay the Beast for Dragons mostly. --- Prepare these Chants: Chant 1 - Sure-Handed Ila + Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr. I have this on most of the time. Chant 2 - One dozen Stood + Sure Handed Ila. Chant 3 - They Shielded Their Eyes + Sure Handed Ila. Chant 4 - With All Your Strength + Sure Handed Ila. Before you get Sure-Handed Ila + Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr use Dull the Edge + At the Sight. --- Weapon Set 1: Hold-Wall, later switch to Aedrin's Wrecker Weapon Set 2: Great Sword or Pike or War Hammer and Shield You can buy Hold-Wall in Black Hammer Smithy in Gilded Vale. Aedrin's Wrecker can be found on Level 10 of the Endless Paths of Od Nua. Head: Anything with Intellect Armor: Angio's Gambeson or any light armor Neck: Finreah's Grace Hands: Spiderfingers Boots: Glanfathan Stalking Boots Belt: whatever you want Rings: Ring of Protection, Ring of Overseeing, Ring of Searing Flames or whatever you want None of these equipment choices are set in stone to be honest. You just want nice Dexterity and Intellect boost and some Perception. --- I find Kana to be quite good from start to finish. With arbalest he will knock down enemies, buff and protect your party with chants, CC your enemies and summon help. You should also give him enough Lore skill so Kana can use some handy scrolls. I like scroll of Valor, scroll of Defense, scroll of Protection (amazing against Ogre Druids, Delemgan, Pŵgra, Adragan, Mênpŵgra), scroll of Revival, scroll of Prayer against Imprisonment, scroll of Prayer against Treachery.

  2. curiously, our refugee and asylum laws is relative new The U.S. Government Turned Away Thousands of Jewish Refugees, Fearing That They Were Nazi Spies World War II prompted the largest displacement of human beings the world has ever seen—although today's refugee crisis is starting to approach its unprecedented scale. But even with millions of European Jews displaced from their homes, the United States had a poor track record offering asylum. Most notoriously, in June 1939, the German ocean liner St. Louis and its 937 passengers, almost all Jewish, were turned away from the port of Miami, forcing the ship to return to Europe; more than a quarter died in the Holocaust. and the nativist US policies o' the late 19th and early 20th century were codified by coolidge in 24 with the passage of the johnson-reed immigration act, but as terrible as were US laws and rules, there were a reason so many displaced, poor and hopeless peoples were escaping the tender mercies o' europe and asia as they endured improbable hardships to reach the US. one o' the few countries willing to accept jewish refugees following ww2 were russia/the soviet union, and the fact those jewish refugees were willing to stay in functional concentration camps as 'posed to returning to russia speaks volumes, no? again, eisenhower in 45... "As matters now stand, we appear to be treating the Jews as the Nazis treated them except that we do not exterminate them. They are in concentration camps in large numbers under our military guard instead of S.S. troops. One is led to wonder whether the German people, seeing this, are not supposing that we are following or at least condoning Nazi policy." regardless, our firstest ever asylum laws only finally got passed in 1951 and those laws were inspired by the collective shame and guilt stemming from the treatment o' jews before, during and even after ww2. the waves o' cambodian and vietnamese boat people, as well as cuban influxes o' immigrants caused crises in the US which tested practical limits o' the nation to absorb so many people. even so, most americans still felt pride when looking at the statue o' liberty and the poem portion you quote and most were committed to finding a way to achieve aspirational goals. the situation today is a bit different. the afrikaner performative nonsense is illustrative o' the intentional cruelty and racism o' the new administration. when the trump administration functional and illegal shut down asylum and refugee programs, more than 10000 afghan refugees had already gone through the years long vetting process. "I want to add some clarity to that number. About 2,000 was the number that we expected to travel over three months, what we thought the pause was going to be, but it's indefinite. So, people are being pulled off flights now. Flights are being canceled, but the truth is there are more than 10,000 Afghans who are fully vetted, security vetted, medically cleared, and ready to go. "And now they don't know what's coming next. We have asked the State Department to give very clear guidance to them, that we hope they're going to do that. They haven't affirmatively confirmed that yet." and yet somehow, the afrikaner "refugees," were vetted (a process which usual takes more than a year,) and brought to the US. other than bruce, am suspecting everybody is able to see what is happening with the afrikaner refugee program. the trump campaigns were bout grievance and outrage as 'posed to offering real solutions (all we ever got were concepts of a plan for health care and every couple weeks were infrastructure week during trump 1.0,) but it didn't matter what were real as long as trump validated grievance and outrage o' his base. for too long, the libs has ignored the suffering o' working class whites, right? finally we got a President who is able to speak the truth that as a nation we went so far left that it is whites who is now the primary victims o' racial injustice. fox viewers saw that blm set the country on fire and the libs just watched everything burn. and why are we spending so much money on inner city school lunch programs which disproportionate help minorities while white folks in the burbs is having a hard time sending their second kid to college? the white genocide in south africa doesn't need be real. the fact that many thousands o' afghans were turned away from the US, more than a few of whom is facing real and lethal consequences in the country o' their birth to make room for fast tracked white farmers from south afrika, is the point o' this bit o' theatre. perhaps the administration needed to distract from the gift 747 that even laura loomer criticizes and maybe the thirty dolls comment were too much for the working class base who is already having trouble making ends meet. or maybe this is just the cruel and racist policies o' the administration which the base now embraces openly 'cause shame is so 2015. trump knows he don't need to do anything constructive just as long as he validates the outrage and grievance o' his base... 'cause it is 'bout time somebody were looking out for the white victims o' racism, yes? HA! Good Fun!

  4. Marking gives bonus ONLY to the nearest party member attacking the same target. So only one party member. AFAIK Marking gives the accuracy bonus the moment you select a target and somebody from your party, standing close, attacks the same target. There is no need for the target to get hit first. Marking also stacks with paladin's Coordinated Attacks. For example, Pallegina with Shame or Glory sword and Coordinated Attacks talent will give the nearest ally +20 accuracy.

  5. keep in mind the three we shared is only a small sample o' US hot dogs https://www.hot-dog.org/culture/regional-hot-dogs doesn't even include the hawaiian puka dog. US corn dogs and bagel dogs each have their own multitude o' variations. also, personal we don't consider polish sausage or brats to be hot dogs. if we were adding polish sausage sandwiches, then am preferring the maxwell street polish to any hot dog the cleveland polish boy is pretty fantastic too, but the addition o' the fries bothers us s smidge. am also feeling the need to opine, unsolicited, that the sugar added to korean corn dogs is a vulgar affront to our culinary sensibilities. why in the holy hell would you roll the damn thing in sugar? to keep on-topic/funny as 'posed to all 'bout food... *shrug* is the only quasi-humorous and not sexual hot dog vid we could think o' at the moment, so sue us. HA! Good Fun! ps am now genuine hungry for a maxwell street polish.

  6. Meh, it's a matter of degree I suppose. This criticism can be applied to most governments. DJT is just unusual in comparison to most of his predecessors.

  8. Finished original Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Pretty cool, but flawed game. I really enjoyed the setting and an immersive nature of the game. I also liked characters, though felts fairly bored by the plot, especially by the end. In general, I enjoyed it more when the game allowed me to roam free and offered a more freeform way of solving objectives. I really liked the early and mid game, but I felt the game overstayed its welcome. The nature of leveling system means that about halfway through the game, I was an unstoppable force of violence and charisma. Not having to specialize always dampers my enjoyment of an RPG. Also, I also felt that the better my character got the worst the game became. There was something appealing about vagueness of the early game, and once I understand how the game works I was far less invested - gameplay wise, those are not exactly great systems. Still, looking forward to the sequel, though I will take a break from the IP for now. Modded my arcade stick a bit - put in larger actuator and a mid tension spring. I am still getting used to it, and while it didn't solve my most common input fumbles, it made double tapping for dashing and certain specials much much easier due to shorter stick travel distance. Very helpful in SF6. My hand is getting tired again, though, after longer play session.

  9. Hi Vasvary5050. There is more than one way to play a Chanter. Even on the highest difficulty. I chose light armor and Arbalest for Kana because I wanted to play ranged Cipher (MC) supported by Chanter standing next to my MC and out of harms way most of the time. Light armor helps Kana with recovery speed, Arbalest can inflict prone on crit and this weapon choice for Kana allows me to give arquebus to Durance in early game. I also didn't need another frontliner. My party had Eder and Pallegina as tanks. There is nothing wrong with playing a melee Chanter. Boeroer addressed that already in a comment above mine.

  10. 'S always interesting to see hot dogs in other places, because what is sold as hot dog here in Austria is similar, yet different. If you buy a hot dog at a traditional Würstelstand, you'll get a french baguette style bread with one of the ends cut off, then a hole is punched down the middle, which is then filled with condiments (various mustards, hot sauce, ketchup) and a sausage of your choice - frankfurter for kids, adults usually get grilled käsekrainer or bratwurst. No pickles or any other ingredient added. Wouldn't fit in the hole in the baguette anyway. There are dishes more similar to traditional American hot dogs, but they're not called hot dogs. One of them is the Bosna, which is made with bratwurst, onions and a curry powder & mustard mixture. Still, everything's inferior to deep fried debrecener sausages in lángos dough, painted with garlic oil. Might as well go for something that burns your mouth and clog your arteries while eating.

  11. I'm currently running a party with my MC chanter in the backline (with an Arbalest, albeit the Spike Flinger now that it's fixed bc. it reloads so much faster - but it doesn't have prone on crit) and Sure-Handed Ila + Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr AND Kana in the front line with fat armor, a single handed hatchet and the Dragon Thrashed exclusively. The single weapon gives the Dragon Thrashed +12 accuracy (offensive chants are the only thing - apart from the weapon accuracy itself - where single handed weapon usage does that). Both work fine, both are viable. Shooting requires a bit more micromanagement - which is fine for my MC. Kana in fat armor and without any meaningful way to deal weapon damage requires almost no micromanagement (which I find useful in a party of 6). Imo there is no "better" in this case. It depends on what your party needs. Both in one party has been very smooth sailing so far by the way (front line: Firebrand Edér, Dragon Thrashed Kana, dual hatchet Spiritshift Shocker Hiravias; back line: MC arbalest Chanter, Durance and CC Aloth).

  12. Nothing shortens attack animation except DEX. Unfortunately the wording with "attack speed" in PoE is often stupid. DEX shortens everything (attack animation, recovery and reload) while all other things that talk about attack speed mean recovery only. Sure-Handed Ila shortens recovery time and reloading time. It is equally effective for all ranged weapons! If you think about it like this: "how much time do I spend waiting between shooting?" - with recovery weapons that's only recovery time (which gets reduced by x%), with reloading weapons it's recovery time plus reloading time (which both get reduced by x%, so the total sum of recovery + reload also gets reduced by x%). So there's no difference in that regard between the ranged weapons. They all get their "pause" reduced by the same percentage. If you want to experiement with different ranged weapons and the effect of Sure-Handed Ila (and other speed bonuses) try this tool: https://naijaro.github.io/poe-speed-calculator/ I don't remember the base duration (I suspect it's base phrase time + linger originally?), it rolls once per phrase (every 4 secs if you chain it). With Brisk Recitation (auto ability of chanters which reduces the phrase times every 4 lvls by 10%, up to -50% at lvl 16) the phrase will become shorter (rolls every 2 secs at lvl 16). Yeah that's not really clear. Crits do prolong tick damage and duration, so in theory it should do more dmg if implemented correctly, but sometimes it's the overall damage that gets raised and not the tick damage. I don't remember how it works in this case. You have to watch the dmg numbers over the enemies' heads to be absolutely sure, because the combat log can give misguiding info on DoTs unfortunately. Important is that Come Soft Winds (and Dragon Thrashed) does stack its DoT instances (does not prolong them when it hits again) which is great. So if you have a long crit you can stack more DoT ticks on top of each other. If it would only prolong the duration a crit would be wasted - but that's not the case. With Brisk Recitation, good acc and INT you can stack a lot of those DoTs on enemies while building up phrase points very quickly (1.5 secs at lvl 16). Not as devastating as Dragon Thrashed by a mile, but not bad.

  13. This one is strange, because this user's first five posts pretty clearly do not sound like they're spam or were AI-generated...but they were ten years ago all within about 24 hours, and they were also posted in threads that were current at the time. Their last two posts, one in late 2024 and this one here, are written completely differently (i.e. like generic AI slop, with this latest one even containing what seems to be a spam link) and were posted in inactive threads. I suppose it might be a hijacked account....but what I am most curious about is why, given that this user had not posted for eight years at the time, did both Gorth and Amentep visit this user's profile back on August 24th and 25th (respectively) in 2023?

  19. Two episodes of The Apothecary Diaries (2023). Premise: Young woman (older teenaged girl?) that is an apprentice apothecary is kidnapped, sold, and ends up a servant girl in the Chinese Imperial Court, uses her skills, intelligence, and total lack of charm to prove herself and rise up from her position as the lowest of the low. There are good elements here that I like, but I am frustrated with this. I am reminded greatly of the movie Like the Clouds, Like the Wind (1990)... ...which has a very similar premise and seemingly some of the same ideas at play. I wish this show had been made around the same time, I probably would've really liked it; as it is, trapped in the conventions of modern anime and the show's unwillingness to slow down (she's already tasked with making drugs by the end of the second episode, with god knows what the eventual end point of the show is...), I switch between smiles and groans too much while watching this. This show really needs a heavy dose of common sense injected into its approach and writing so that just a speck of suspension of disbelief can be had, but I know that's not something that really happens anymore. It's very bittersweet that so many old shows (cartoons, anime, and live-action alike) are largely episodic and their main stories almost always move at a snail's pace even while they continue to build up their world and characters, while new shows completely reverse this by instead just running full speed ahead through so much of the story that they want to tell, not taking the time to consider what pace is sensible or how to bond the viewer to itself with its characters and intrigue. And the Apothecary Diaries actually has a number of episodes - 24 in the first season, with the second season still ongoing - so maybe it does eventually settle into a better pace than what I saw in the first two episodes, but I find it very disappointing nonetheless.
