  1. Wrapping up the work day, and I caught the trail end of a BBC reporter in Las Vegas, an interview with a Trump supporter who was asked how the result of the trial is going to affect his voting. he said it won't and that the whole thing highlights what's wrong with America "the witch-hunting, the finger-pointing, the demonising of people on the other side. Not coming together as whole communities to discuss matters and develop proper solutions" and that was why he would keep on voting for Trump. .. I'm trying to decide if the man is meaning to be satirical or not. That level of cognitive dissonance is breaking my brain. On the upside, one of my friends scored tickets to a showing of The Crow (the original, not the remake) at a cinema near here, so I'll be off to that later tonight for the nostalgia gothic-ness. Debating on pulling out the full length black leather trenchcoat... But it is kicking off summer weather here so probably not.

  2. Necromunda part1 The Ratling Slopper. Funny coincidence, I sent photos of this guy to the official Necromunda Facebook when they were asking for community pics. It was not shown and a few months later GW announced a ratling slopper of their own. Obviously I go by the theory that they were inspired by my mini and just don't want to admit it

  3. You asked for BloodBowl. You shall receive Blood Bowl. The Rotten Eggz Converted gobbo spearmen basically. The loony has a ball and squig instead of a ball and chain. The Pogo has a rocket pack. The doom diver rides a tie fighter and waves a lightsabre. But I lacked experience with LEDs so it and the bomba's cigar only really show in absolute darkness

  5. This is a fake trailer, btw. Or as Screen Culture terms it a 'final trailer concept'.

  6. The situation is different today for Russia as well. They are not under lend lease from USA, so even if the manpower does not run dry, artillery and tanks will run low sooner or later. There is no way, that Russia can sustain losing 20-50 artillery and 10-25 tanks each day in the long term. Yes they are on war economy for a long time already, but there is no chance for them to build 1000 new artillery and 500 new tanks a month, when they are already lacking qualified workforce. It is now much easier to flee Russia now, than half century ago.

  7. Went to a birthday party yesterday. Nice and cozy, in an old brewery. We were (I think) about 11 people. Listening to the two Estonian girls talk to each other was a bit "weird", because even if the language is different, it reminded me a lot of the half day spent in the airport of Helsinki, while doing a stopover there (on my way from Australia to Copenhagen, 8 years ago). She "melody" and the sound of the language was just so similar to the local, Finnish conversations I listened to in the airport. edit: not understanding a word in either case, but the sound of the language was very similar

  8. @melkathi sadly I never got to play BloodBowl when it was new, a few decades ago. But, afaik it's still a "current" game. Awesome gobbos!

  9. A Finnish military specialist just recently pointed out that it's a stupid strategy but may well work in the end, given that Russia has such a great advantage in numbers (of men sent to be killed). A bit of a harrowing thought, that. "We don't care how many of our men get killed, because we're going to have more in the end anyway." No Western or even "Western" country could have withstood such casualties (in 2022-2024, that is; in 1939-1945 it was different).

  11. Disclaimer, not trying to start a religious war nor done any fact checking on his claims. I just listened to it the other day as background while painting miniatures. But his history of theology in this case was intriguing enough that it made me want to dig a bit deeper into the origin of the Abrahamic religions at a later date I.e. from a warrior god in a larger pantheon to a god in small Caanite pantheon to a single god for the tribes of Israel....

  16. By the way, I recently read some speculations concerning the question of how and when a power with imperialist ambitions is prepared to give them up. The two most recent examples are Germany and Japan, and neither of them was prepared to give up their imperialist ambitions until they were essentially crushed. This speculation also contained the rather unpleasant idea that maybe WW2 would have been avoided if Germany had been humiliated more (instead of less) thoroughly in WW1. What happened in WW1 gave the Germans the idea of creating their own Empire Strikes Back, but it wouldn't have happened if they had been crushed like Japan in WW2. This is all speculation, of course, and the situation is very different now, with nuclear weapons. But the pertinent question remains: what does it take for a nation with imperialist ambitions to give them up. This is relevant because if we somehow manage to bring about peace in Ukraine, it may well be that it is not possible for Russians to accept it in the long term. They will want revenge.

  17. Finished the There is no Light review. After some reflection, the general thing is that it is an action-adventure (and not a Souls-like nor a Metroidvania) with nice art and character development system and not so nice story/writing and level design. The foes clipping through each other and environmental hazards were also unpleasant. I am thankful for the key provided by ShadySands. --- Started The Last Express Gold Edition. Failed after wandering around the train for 10 minutes - could not find the quest NPC. The game looks amazing for its time, though the screen resolution and the mouse-based controls suggest it would work wonderfully on handheld devices. The in-game navigation is somewhat challenging.
