With the announcement that Steam is joining PS3, I figured we should probably get ourselves acquainted on Steam

 

I'm Calaxprimal (steamID), And ironically I appear to have mod privaleges for the [soDOFF] group/clan (Society of Dangerous Obsidian Fanatical Forumites).

 

I admit to having an ulterior motive for this. It would appear that the member known as "Assassin" has been hacked and is sending "phishing" links to anyone so that more accounts will be hacked. If you're using steam and get a random message that has a link like

 

Steamcommunity_com_viewprofile(numbers string).9hz.xxx, that's the phishing site.

I will say that the most recent overhaul of Steam has made a huge difference for me and my slow connection. It is way more stable and runs a lot smoother than before.

About an hour and a half ago, I think I grabbed ME & ME2 at the last possible minute. When I was done with the purchase, and saw the games in my library, I went back to the store tab and BAM it was Dragon Age day...

 

And here I had (mis)calculated I had time until 10pm local (about half an hour from right now).

 

Anyone has an idea how Steam handles time? I mean when does a "Steam day" start exactly? 12AM? 12PM? GMT? PST?

Uhmm... I paid less for both Dragon Age Origins and Awakening.

Mass Effect 2 on Play.com costs less than the 'super deal' they were offering on Steam.

I can give you that Mass Effect was dirty cheap, but I already have it so..

I bought ME1, and now I'm told I can't contact the key server. Apparently thousands have been affected by this.

I haven't finished downloading ME yet and I honestly don't know when I'll get the time to actually play it... I hope the problem is resolved by the time I do.

 

 

On another note, my friend's having a hard time with his Steam account too. He can't play TF2, or any games from his Orange Box for that matter... Something like "can't connect to Steam server, please try again in a few minutes". It's been about a week now and he's still trying... ---

 

Oh, and after that, it says "validating" or something and takes a lot of time..... but still nothing. Any ideas? Anyone encountered that? I'll personally look into it asap.

It looks like Mass Effect sold a few more copies than we anticipated during the sale yesterday. We're temporarily out of keys for Mass Effect. We've requested more from EA and will get them online as soon as we can. Once we get them in place, you'll be able to launch your game as normal.

You guys talk about bugs in Obsidian games (which I've rarely experienced). I can't get the sound to work, and the graphics are glitching like a mo'fo' even at the lowest settings.

 

My God is clearly punishing me for collaborating with the DRM bastards.

I prefer impulse to steam myself. From what I have seen impulse is much more flexable when you want to run runs your bought from it. (ie dont have to have it running to play a game)
