The What Are You Reading thread (now with a simpler name)
Maybe I need to reread the entire series, but I hated the two Murgen books. I never was interested in Port of Shadows, and now Cook made those two magical babes the protagonists? Lol.

Candy Glass ouro Sugar glass
Why not have a type of construction that uses candy as a base to create a kind of sugar glass? We could build walls, roofs, windows, and many other things using this candy-based glass. It would add a translucent building material to the game. It would be fragile, but aesthetically very beautiful.
- Cool game, but why the ableism?

For the record: While I didn't love The Outer Worlds (1) either, I thought there were decent things in there as well. Overall, I think it's a rather mid title by Obsidian standards though. And one seemingly scared of its own design goals as well. There is "casualization" -- Pentiment, set up as a narrative experience surely isn't a hardcore gamer's game, and that's perfectly fine! It was never conceived as such. And then there is say the aforementioned looting in TOW1 that doesn't even matter as it's this abundant. In a way, it seems Obsidian came out of their crowdfunding stage under the impression that specialization would not be worth it (after Deadfire, see the quote prior about making real money off two PoEs...). Whereas for Warhorse, Larian, Owlcat et all it was the opposite. That said, whilst there were layoffs, Obsidian never cut down solely to the crew doing Pillars 1 back then. IIRC, they were still a studio in the ~100-150 people range at that point.

Meh, I am sure there are many factors. What I have been wondering is the sheer size Obsidian has grown. About 10 years ago they were a minimal crew relying on crowdfunding to make Pillars1. Now, they are what - a 200-300 studio working on multiple projects at once? Both big and small. That's a lot of cultural shift to go through, with a lot of new hires, training to do etc. All things considered Obsidan has done pretty well so far. While I didn't love Avowed, I thought there were things to enjoy in there, I hear good things of Outer Worlds2, Grounded did really well, and Pentiment is at the very least a critical darling. So in all - I don't think they had a bad run so far.

I have to agree. I'm also the key target audience for Avowed but, because I don't have Gamepass, chose to wait for the game to be on sale rather than buy it at launch for that very high retail price. I still bought it only at 20% off, but would've bought it at launch paying full price had that price been reasonable.

Finished Soldiers Live. I don't know, I think I like the original 3 books more. There is a dip afterwards that does get better with the later books but it never quite comes back to the level of the first 3. Saying that I will continue reading the new books as they come out. I started immediately with Lies Weeping. Another thing I would say is that while Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen is pretty heavily inspired by the Black Company he does a better job with his characters. You are way more invested in the non PoV characters of the Malazan world.

Grounded 2 the Stick Bug
I thought that it would be neat to have stick bugs in grounded 2 , a critter that would take you a minute to realize it's there after mistaking it for a stick . Stick Bug - Harmless : stick bugs like to pretend to be twigs to hide from predators , stick Bugs drops stick bug limbs and stick bug parts which can be used to make a spear or an axe or a scythe .
-
Grounded 2 the Monarch Butterfly
figured since we have blue butterflies we should have another species of butterfly in the game so I picked one that would be the obvious one you usually would see around in the U.S. Monarch Butterfly - Neutral : Monarch butterflies are usually flying around looking for flowers they can extract nectar from , Monarch butterflies drops Monarch Butterfly Chunk , Monarch Butterfly Scales , Monarch Butterfly Wing , and Shivering Monarch Butterfly Scale .
-
Grounded 2 the Dragonfly
some one mentioned something about the dragonflies should be in Grounded 2 I wouldn't mind having Dragonflies in the game Dragon Fly - Neutral : dragonflies are usually are near water , dragonfly drops Dragonfly wings which can be used to make something for gliding or something like that .
-
Grounded 2 the fly
I feel like Flies should be in grounded 2 I know we already have gnats but flies are bigger then gnats Fly - Neutral : flies are usually flying around garbage looking for raw meat to lay there eggs , Flies drop fly meat .

Remove or allow removal of unbreakable grass straws.
I can't seem to edit it anymore, but while I was playing I thought of another thing. How about having a setting that combines Dashing and Sprinting. Think of Shadow Warrior Remake (The first one) You tap shift and you dash, hold it down and you dash THEN initiate sprint. And I'm not sure if Buggy Mutations/Progression will address this. But I do hope that upgrading your Omni-Axe ALSO upgrades your Soldier Ant somehow to also be able to cut down Husky Weeds. Feels a bit sad losing most of the utility of my big boy once grass is no longer needed.

Remove or allow removal of unbreakable grass straws.
I finally managed to find a building spot I liked, but of course right on that spot.. Are these large unremovable grass straws. Please allow us to remove these. Or at least remove them from this amazing building spot right next to the snake. Besides that. I'd like to get Multiple/Scrollable Hotpouches back And a toggle feature for an equippable Omni-Tool Now besides THAT.. Great game!

That was my reaction to when Deadfire launched -- to nowhere near the buzz as PoE. To be fair, Eternity1, unlike Original Sin, was always big time sold on nostalgia, and eventually, that crave for the good ol' days may be fulfilled. Still, in the case of PoE, it's certainly not the "type of game" at fault -- or Owlcat wouldn't have rolled these things plus DLC plus Enhanced Editions en masse from an Eastern European CRPG factory line. :D In the case of TOW, it's not the type of game either, see Fallout New Vegas. What would have bummed me out (and kinda did) with TOW1 is that it was announced as a sort of Vegas-Like project (see the announcement trailers... "From thy builders of Vegas!"). And then was more like a baby's version of an Obsidian game, of one I've played better versions of before (not talking size, but depth). The entire industry is struggling a bit atm though. And if you ask me, the thing to notice recently has been about specilization -- of picking an experience and going all-in on it rather than watering it down so that everybody may be onboard. A game like Kingdom Come would have never seen the light of day at Bioware, Bethesda and Obsidian -- see how Josh had been hoping to make a historical game since forever, but bosses would go: "Nobody would buy that." And even FromSoft exploded by Elden Ring -- a title likewise that would have never seen the light of day at most of the old Western powerhouses of the industry, as deemed as too "inaccessible". These games were allowed to excel at what they were targeting -- and attracted added people simply by doing so, making them curious what's so "special" and "unique" about them. Warhorse have talked about how many history buffs they got onboard who aren't even hardcore gamers, for instance. As a side-effect, Warhorse are now pretty much the only top dogs on the "historical RPG" block too -- there simply is nobody around making a game like them on the scale of them, zero direct competition. Loot and combat and dwarves and elves and Pip-Boys? Dime a dozen. It's actually not just games. See also music, where there are few omnipresent superstars still left that everybody and their cat owns a record of. And rather, everyone tends to build their own streaming playlists, tailored towards them specifically. The market here too has exploded so much that everybody will eventually find something fit to their tastes. (Over 19,000 games released on Steam alone in 2025). One thing is clear though: Chasing trends with dev cycles of 4-7 years ain't gonna cut it. By that point that trend is long old hat. And everybody else chasing it as well may have already picked up what was left of all the buzz once you're finally ready to ship yourself. :D

Idea to improve the Ranger class!
Hi, I have been loving Grounded 2 and have really struggled to enjoy the ranger class as much as I want to. The class struggles with one major thing... PICKING UP ARROWS!! I wanted to submit my idea to improve the system. If anyone agrees please add a comment so it can happen!😃 I think that instead of having arrows as entities that stick into enemies and drop on the ground after a few seconds (allowing retrieval) and consequently flying around the map or getting stuck under the map never to be used again. Another method would be to leave the arrows stuck on the bug (or just keep track of if the creature has been hit by an arrow) and only give the player the arrows back when they loot the creature. This solves the chasing arrow dilemma, as well as adds more preparation time for boss fights to ensure you have brought enough arrows to win. (not just waste time picking up the 20 arrows you brought) I give full permission for this idea to be used. Please add this into the game so we can all be satisfied when we play the ranger class!

What are you Playing Now? Volume XIX: The New Beginning of the End of the Middle
Since as usual I don't feel like committing to a new game just yet, I keep fiddling with the games I already own. Besides NMS/7 Days, I keep stockpiling resources in Enshrouded, so that one chr. can be the resource-server for other characters. Mostly because I also can't make myself commit to choosing base location spots with other chrs (not to mention even twink-half-replaying the game to do so). I do the same thing in 7 Days. "That's a nice spot, maybe here." "This spot seems even better, maybe here." "Oh wait, that spot over there might be perfect." Repeat 500 times. At least in 7 Days (and to some extent, NMS), you can have 400 bases all over the map if you want, so you can just abandon old locations. Stupid 10 base limit in Enshrouded. But hey, at least I'll have 100k+ of all building blocks in case I ever make up my mind.
