The All Things Political Topic - What's Going On...?
Zoraptor replied to Lexx's topic in Way Off-Topic
Not just the US, almost all the decidedly little letters 'outrage' from the collective west is performative. Except for Spain, I guess. As always the juxtaposition of having a news article about some unarmed drones toodling across Poland being The End of World Civilisation!!! vs Israel bombing yet another country- and killing its citizens- is pretty stark. Good thing we have double standards, or we wouldn't have any at all. The lack of any actual consequences makes it very very clear that our politicians are absolutely fine with genocide so long as it's their friends doing it. And if you're fine with genocide then... there really isn't anything that you're not fine with, including Perfidy and having one ally bomb another. -

#1, It's a risk one takes being a public figure of any kind. Can't say I'm all that surprised in today's US/political climate. #2. I have definitely felt like the US is teetering on some kind of guerrilla/terrorist-civil war, more localized conflicts vs all states involved at once etc. Not saying it WILL happen, but it sure gives me those vibes. #3. While I'm not all that ancient yet, I've apparently still lived too long (tech/own nothing, politics (not just US either) etc. Humanity does like to repeat itself re: civilization cycles - if not in exact detail, in themes. I feel like the higher our tech, the faster those cycles are rotating even within current civilization era. Wonder what documentaries on us will be like. The TV and Streaming Thread: That's Entertainment!

^ I'm sure I've said it before, but the only reason I still have Netflix at this point is 1-hubby and 2-S. korea content. But even the k-dramas that Netflix tends to highlight or at the ones plastered with the "Netflix originals" (or at least "only on Netflix") have a pattern to what they are. Which is why I've been going back to Viki a lot more, again. And half the time I can't even buy such on dvd's anymore in terms of willing to wait to see in that way. Especially for non-US stuff and series (vs. films). -

I ended up canceling Netflix after the millionth time logging in and scrolling through all the soulless crap, then giving up without watching anything. I'm pretty sure my time browsing Netflix has surpassed my time actually watching it. -

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2025/aug/28/bland-easy-to-follow-for-fans-of-everything-what-has-the-netflix-algorithm-done-to-our-films I would think it's not just Netflix anymore. But I suppose we can blame them for starting it. Now they all do it. Sad state of affairs, and yet not surprising, both re: commercialism/profit, and humanity's constant thirst for ear and eyeball-induced tickles. "Are you not entertained?" Well, most of the time, no, not really. But hey, sometimes it is all better than watching the ceiling. -
This is exactly my professional take as well. Putin knows how the military side of NATO will react. No need for him to test that. It is the political side of NATO that is suspect, and it totally makes sense Putin will want to (and will continue to) test the political will and unity of NATO. And Article 4 provocations are the best way to do so as well, because obviously an Article 5 provocation could very well backfire on him.

Sadly I wasn't home in Brisbane to experience the Riverfire 2025 festival. I hope I'll be there for the 2026 festival though! The airshow is only part of it, the fireworks at night is probably only outdone by the Sydney Harbour New Years fireworks edit: I've seen clips from previous years posted elsewhere and so many self proclaimed know it all are adamant it's fake and AI and nowhere in the world would something like this be allowed. Having been there and experienced it myself many times now, I'm like: Welcome to the real world, when reality literally overwhelms the mental capacity of some edit: a few short clips from above mentioned fireworks

Ok, I love the buggies and they have a lot of function but hear me out, rail cars. It would be great to have a craftable rail car and tracks to transport resources and travel across the map between bases. I already have a system where I will build an elevated grass "Sidewalk" to travel between hot spots or bases. The addition of a speedy little cart that could carry more would make it a lot easier to make the runs. Obviously it would require hunting down the required "special" resources to build but I think it would be endlessly beneficial and ultimately take base building and exploration to the next level. Just a thought, let me know what you think.

At that range the shooter was probably aiming for the head and the bullet drop hit the neck. And my bad, I was referring to in-school shootings. -

I didn't watch it. But I have watched lots of other videos of his debates and seen how he does things most of the time Here is one student telling about her debate with Kirk Point of the debate is to bring up the merits of the point of the view that you are debating for, but if you always pivot to another question or topic when you are challenged then that isn't mark of good debater, but it maybe indication that you can think fast, which may allow you to win over the audience even though you weren't able to actually defend you point Lets say that in doctorial candidate defends their dissertation, when questioned their facts that by questioning questioner about facts of different topic. Would you say they are defending well their dissertation and their research or are they just hoping to distract questioner so that they don't see that they can't defend their research? Also I would point out that people can easily have fun in debates even if everyone involved is absolute garbage in debating, because having fun doing something does not mean that you are good at it. I have fun playing football, but at best I am bit worse than you 7th division player. -

Did you watch the video I posted earlier? You might personally think he was a bad debater but thats clearly not what the young people who use to debate him thought The young lady in the video says after about 8 minutes " Im having so much fun in this debate " I would assume the people who spent time debating Kirk who be the best ones to judge if he was a good debater? -
I can't wait for when it comes out the assassin is a white right wing trump supporter and suddenly nobody will ever hear of it again in the news.

And of course Trump going to declare Antifa terrorists. Or the DNC. Hilarious overreaction to this, flags at half staff, House pausing in prayer for him.
