not nato, USA Petrodolar, but really if something can erode dolar, it will be yen, not some Libyan worthless cash

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Why would NATO be afraid of gold backed currency? The world abandoned gold backed currency for good reason.

Well... I'll agree there was a reason. As to it being good or not we'll see. So far it hasn't been a disaster but we have flirted with it. One thing for sure, the economic expansions we have seen '71 would not have happened if the total number of dollars was a zero sum.

The french not wanting a competing currency in Africa isn't a conspiracy theory- they still muck around in west/ Sahel Africa as badly as they did when actual colonial masters and the 'franc' is a critical part of that- the US doing anything because of it is extraordinarily unlikely though. The currency wouldn't have worked since Gaddafi was not well enough liked/ trusted in Africa due to his other pan African ambitions which, much like his and others' earlier pan Arab ambitions, were fairly transparently aimed at getting him to be head of a more important entity than Libya. Plus he'd monkeyed around in other countries pretty liberally including fighting a literal war against Chad.

Yuan maybe if the Chinese weren't so very obviously intending to leverage every bit of influence they can get with it, but the yen is tied to an economy that has been moribund for two decades and a country with a massive debt and declining population. The USD is a pretty dumb reserve currency in theory and is also tied to a massive debt and a country intent on leveraging its influence, but it has the very large advantage of inertia. The Euro isn't really an alternative either, as it has a bunch of problems with debt, it being a 'wonky' set up with a weird central bank structure and the still  credible threat of countries dropping out of it.

Guess there's always cryptocurrency as a potential reserve ahahahahahaha.

It will be anything backed by any real stuff in big amounts, since FED USA pretty much manage to get dollar as global currency thanks Saudi trade with oil and OPEC. Without it its pretty much unstable currency hindered by quite a big dept

The next time I make an off color political comment I'm just going to say "that was the Ambien talking".

 Bourbon, you are off the hook!

Just a thought though. Had Rosanne said that about Condleeza Rice do you think she still would have been canned? In other words are insults only insulting when the politics of the person being insulted lean left? Because she has said a lot of off that wall s--t over the years, the majority of which was cheered by the "left".

For reasons I'm sure most of you understand I don't comment on the politics of the great state of Tennessee. It's highly unlikely any comment I've made here would ever be held against me but you just never know. So anyway, this story is big news here. One of our candidates for Governor as suggested the rise of internet pornography is to blame for school shootings: https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/tn-elections/2018/05/30/diane-black-pornography-root-causes-school-shootings-tennessee-governor-race/654620002/

Yeah.Porn and the internet are hardly a new couple you know. In fact I'm pretty sure porn beat shopping and bill paying online by a year or two. But I guess we could examine every boy in every school and if one arm is noticeably stronger than the other we'll keep an eye on him

As far as Ms. Black is concerned, she will fit right in in Nashville.

Of course this is no less absurd than blaming inanimate objects so it's not like anyone in this debate is exercising their brains much.

""I think it's deterioration of the family," Black said. Citing the expression, "idle hands are the devil's workshop," Black said that without a family support structure, teens turn to the Internet, violent movies and pornography."

Idle hands, huh.

I’ve noticed you don’t comment much on the politics of Tennessee, but I don’t know the reason. Other than not a lot of active Tennesseans to talk about it with maybe.

I would hope so. Actually I'd say Condoleeza Rice has a better reputation than George Soros, so an attack on her would probably not sit well in general. She could probably get away with some Sarah Palin stuff. I mean, there are limits for everything. It has been open season on Trump, but Kathy Griffin still got raked over the coals when she did her headless horsemen bit. :)

Someday this excuse will work.

As for the target, I'd imagine it'd be the same, not quite sure it is right wing folk being persecuted.  Rice is far higher profile and respected (sort of) than the Obama aide as well, so reaction might be a tad stronger.

People need to stop saying edgy crap online.

Will this b ethe answer:

Whataboutism, the #1 go to fallacy for the (alt-)right. I know it's doubly hard to understand for the them because they actually really believe all the media that isn't alt-right is run by Soros (or whatever Joo's the enemy now) with the same agenda but demanding that a different company fires someone else for a similar slight is somewhat ludicrous.

Not that Maher shouldn't get fired. Comparing Trump to an Orangutan is an insult to these beautiful and intelligent animals. ;)

Bill Maher isn’t exactly a liberal hero though, and while the hypocrisy is there, it’s not the same level as where Roseanne went.

Conservatives don’t deserve to be represented by actors who spout the stuff Roseanne did. I mean, they don’t deserve that kind of image.

So pointing out the hypocrisy is a fallacy now?

I bet it's hate speech as well ;)

Left is never tired of devaluating and striping words of their actual meaning.

Never mind, 's not worth it.

Well, you have to go person by person if we're going to look at hypocrisy, what with how large and vague the nets cast are.

The argument might have more traction if ABC hadn't dumped Maher while he was still working there after making fun of Bush after 9/11.

Although that was in a time before Fecesbook and Twatter, so maybe that doesn't count.

Well was thinking of the "Left" being hypocritical or the "Right" being so.

Pretty pointless accusation anyway at that scope, I guess

Pretty much. Especially when looking at Twatter posts.

The funniest part is that the loonies on both sides of the spectrum are really similar. They're both collectives that are progressive for the sake of being progressive and reactionary for the sake of being reactionary. Both sides full of groupthink and accusing each other of it.

It's hilarious when viewed from outside the bubbles.

edit:

Even more hilarious when you realize that the political "left" in the US would still be right of our moderate right wing parties here in Commieurop.

I thought that the ‘left’ here in the US would be mostly centrist in Europe. Meanwhile, our far-right are somehow even more far right than Europe’s own far-right groups. Or maybe they’re approximately the same amount of far-right since there’s not much differentiation on that side of the spectrum.
