tiamatbubbles Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Initially, Haul Away and Go but they are all a delight 2
angryusaman Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 (edited) Roll the old Berath's Wheel is so good. Lyrics below: Oh, a drop of good spiced rum wouldn't do us any harm! x3And we'll all hang on behind...And we'll roll the old Berath's wheel alongWe'll roll the old Berath's wheel along x2And we'll all hang on behind And a bowl of Huana stew wouldn't do us any harm! x3And we'll all hang on behind...And we'll roll the old Berath's wheel alongWe'll roll the old Berath's wheel along x2And we'll all hang on behind Oh, a stolen chest of Pires wouldn't do us any harm! x3And we'll all hang on behind...And we'll roll the old Berath's wheel alongWe'll roll the old Berath's wheel along x2And we'll all hang on behind Oh, a-skirting Ondra's water wouldn't do us any harm! x3And we'll all hang on behind...And we'll roll the old Berath's wheel alongWe'll roll the old Berath's wheel along x2And we'll all hang on behind Oh, a night in Queen's Berth wouldn't do us any harm! x3And we'll all hang on behind...And we'll roll the old Berath's wheel alongWe'll roll the old Berath's wheel along x2And we'll all hang on behind And we'll roll the old Berath's wheel alongWe'll roll the old Berath's wheel along x2And we'll all hang on behind Edited May 16, 2018 by angryusaman 4
Icesong Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 (edited) I actually didn't like the shanties since I have too much prior association with them to imagine them as belonging to Eora. I guess that's why they included the option to disable them. I hadn't heard the tune for Faithful Sailor before, though, and I loved it. Edited May 15, 2018 by Icesong

Andraste Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 My crew sang Berath's Wheel as we sailed to the last location in the game. Awwwwww, the crew knows which one is the captain's favourite . 4

"died whilst out upon" is the part you weren't sure about. And I'm pretty sure it's "lives begin anew". 1
Ichthyic Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 (edited) I definitely found myself singing along to "Berath's Wheel"it's very much like the longboat rowing songs we sang when I taught Maritime history long ago. Edited May 28, 2018 by Ichthyic
Masticator Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 The shanties are easily one of my favorite things in the game. I was expecting Obsidian to do something ala Sid Meier's Pirates. You know, vague simlish yo-ho-hos and humming. But no, they're actual songs that make sense in the context of the setting, and they're all amazing to listen to. Glorious, glorious surprise. This so much. I really do think they add immense flavor to the game. One of my favorite things about this game. I'm glad they put some effort into these and didn't half-ass them. Or like another post says, like other games and just use gibberish or something.
marimo Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 Aim'Spirente, but they're all very good. The shanties were one of my favorite things in the game. 1
Macallen Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Aim Spirente is based on a song of a German band called "Santiano". If you like it, you might like their music in general, 4
Dr. Hieronymous Alloy Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I wish they'd done a version of Barrett's Privateers. 1
fortuntek Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I wish they'd done a version of Barrett's Privateers. As a (fellow?) Haligonian this would be amazing. 1

Oh no, I just know it from googling "sea shanties" on youtube last week after Deadfire left me wanting more. It's easily the best modern iteration on the format.
Gregorovitch Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I think Aim Spirente is exceptionally good and I also think Haul away and Go is also very good, very authentic navy style melody, but my vote has to go with the one I keep singing in the shower: "Ooooohh...A drop of good spiced rum wouldn't do us any harm," These three aree so much better IMO than the others I can't vote for all of them. 2
Mikeymoonshine Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) Are they all based on other songs because many of them remind me of folk songs I like but then folk melodies are usually used for multiple songs? Edited June 1, 2018 by Mikeymoonshine

Epimetreus Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I wish they'd done a version of Barrett's Privateers. Hey, there's still DLC to come... 1
Tarlonniel Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Extra bonus question - most (all?) of the shanties have two versions, one with a male soloist, one with a female soloist. Do you prefer one type over the other? I like them all about equally, except for Faithful Sailor, where I love to death the female-led version.
omgFIREBALLS Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 (edited) Another Aim'Spirente fun fact! Remember how the captain is called Parfitto? Well, guess what captain and what ship will hunt you down if you anger the Vailian Trading Company a little too much? It's a fine three-master thin like a bird... Celan Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 (edited) I love them all and had a hard time between Roll the Old Berath's Wheel and Haul Away and Go, but chose the former. I like that Haul Away and Go references the Battle of Yenwood Field. Edited June 10, 2018 by Celan 1
Syllas Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 aim spirente is a obsidian adaptation of that one ^^ and my favorite , i was so surprised to find this song in game good job anyway with all those musics ^^ 4
fortuntek Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 (edited) I don't know if this was brought up before, but I was surprised to hear the female soloist version of the shanties in-game for the first time (which I had only heard from the soundtrack) and I realized-- which one plays depends on whether you have mostly male or mostly female crew Edited June 10, 2018 by fortuntek
InsaneCommander Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 I like them all, but Haul Away and Go is my favorite. When Berath's Wheel or Aim'Spirente are being sung by my crew, I just idle in the harbour and only dock once they are finished. Yes, these shanties are the new Stalwart theme for me. When I hear them I stop playing and go do something else while I listen. 3

One of the background conversations in Neketaka is a guy saying he just signed on for a berth on the Antelope. 3
