LadyCrimson Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 If he could, he'd have printed 3 of them by now - one for the master bedroom and two for the garage. He has a fan-heater unit in the garage along with a large heated rubber foot mat thingie - I keep telling him to get one of those uber radiant heat lamps like warehouses install on their ceilings - but he hasn't yet. “Things are as they are. ShadySands Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 I was actually trying to do the opposite at first and tried to drop internet but keep TV for my wife. The problem was that Comcast had no good options for me. It was either like 10 channels for 50 bucks or 140 channels for 100 bucks (plus taxes and fees). There was nothing in between and we'd have to get a different cable box as well which I was going to have to pay to get installed. Free games updated 3/4/21
Bartimaeus Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 (edited) Yeah, they do that on purpose to make you pay more to get both. Almost all of the big cable-ISP corporations do that crap, and it usually works. @Majestic: have not heard that song in a million years. LadyCrimson Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 The continuing saga of the wall furnace: Hubby decided to repair the heater himself. Bought a pilot/valve unit/box. Not exactly the same so it sits a little different, apparently ours is old enough (maybe from the 60's?) the "standard" unit they sell has changed. So he rigged up some extras to make it connect together. I suggested if it's that old we should just buy an entire new furnace unit. He goes "it could come to that" and continued fiddling. I'm used to this attitude/stubborness of his so I just shrug. He got the heater working late last night. I get up this morning and he's all in my drowsy face saying his nose is too stuffy and asking if I smell gas. "Maybe a little?..." He has to rush out to a client so he points to a valve below the heater and says if I smell gas, to turn it upwards to shut the gas off and he'll test for leaks this evening. OK? The next couple hours the gas smell increases a bit. It's not really strong or anything, I doubt it's much, but I turned the valve. Dear Hubby, I know you like to fix things instead of buy new, but can we buy that new furnace now? 1 “Things are as they are. Azdeus Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 So a while back, there was a discussion on waiting times for healthcare here, don't remember what thread. I've got a visit for a trivial nuisance (Nothing life threatening or such) in 26 weeks. Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Hurlshort Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I registered for a half Ironman in September, so now it's time to get serious.
Syraxis Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I emailed a recruiter for a company that I interviewed with a couple weeks ago (that a close IRL friend works at). Well did I make the cut or not?! Also it's been quite a while since I posted here, how're you all doing?

Gfted1 Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Holy moley, half a year wait to see a doctor (probably because its trivial)? But that's just for the free service, right? You can pay up and jump the line if you want to? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Azdeus Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 You sort of can. We're "guaranteed" to get to meet specialists within 90 days at most. If that is not possible we're offered to go to a different district where they might have shorter waiting times, and they are supposed to pick up the extra costs. Don't know the exact details about that though, I don't have enough time to travel since I don't want to miss work. Theoretically you can pony up to visit a private doctor though. But when I looked up one for fun, the price was something silly like 300$/hour. Hurlshort Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I went and saw Book of Mormon with my wife. It was hilarious.

Hurlshort Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Hilarious in a good or hilarious in a bad way? Both? It was exactly what you would expect, but also way better than it has any right to be.

The time limits on treatment is different for different conditions obviously and you are free to find a private operator if you don't want to wait. You wait because doing so is free. If you have cancer or something else with a time factor, it's different. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

Gorgon Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 As far as I can remember Denmark has a limit on the commencement of cancer treatment of one month. Meaning if you have not been given treatment one month after your diagnosis the hospital is heavily penalized, and you would be sent to Germany or anywhere else with capacity. The news loves to bring up that our cancer treatment success rate is the worst in Scandinavia. Say you need back surgery for pain relief though, yes you could be on the list for years. They want people who are well off to give up on the list and pony up for the treatment themselves I guess. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

LadyCrimson Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Today I'm lying on the couch listening to music at loud volumes. I might motivate to pick up a controller and add gaming to that mix. Hurlshort Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Today I am simulating a sprint Triathlon. I'll be jumping in the pool to swim 1200 meters in my new wetsuit, then jumping on the bike for 15 miles, and then a short 5 mile run to finish it off. My target time is as close to 2 hours as possible. Also a good chance to see what kind of pit crew my wife and kids will be. Oh and it is 50 degrees out, so hopefully I don't freeze.
Hurlshort Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Finished in 2:07. I felt pretty good. My muscles are a bit sore, as expected, but I think the big surprise was the upset stomach. My wife said something about lactic acid building up. The swim was fast, the bike was a grind, and the run was surprisingly nice. My knee was screaming at me during the bike and I expected it to be an issue, but it felt fine once I started pounding the pavement. Hopefully I can improve on that for the race in a couple months. My pit crew was a bit of a mess. My wife was great, but the kids were less enthused. Logan asked me to play hockey afterward. 2
