November 22, 20178 yr I guess it's Mass Effect: Andromeda since it's the only game from this year that I remember finishing. Edited November 22, 20178 yr by ShadySands Free games updated 3/4/21
November 22, 20178 yr DOS2 is the only 2017 release I've meaningfully played thus far (well, one of two, but the other is a microtransaction-laden mobile game). I'm not comfortable giving out GOTY awards by default though, maybe I should go and finally play Thimbleweed Park to give it some semblance of legitimacy. Or I might just leave it vacant like the black hole that was gaming in 2014. (During the last week of this year, I will finally play the Switch and its two big titles, but a week isn't enough time to award any game the GOTY award either unless I do so retrospectively) For the record: 2016 - Stardew Valley 2015 - The Witcher 3 2014 - no award 2013 - Monaco : What's Yours is Mine 2012 - XCOM 2011 - The Witcher 2 2010 - Fallout: New Vegas L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
November 22, 20178 yr Ah, Stardew Valley was such a treat. I kinda want to replay it but it's also a massive timesink. Giveaway list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DgyQFpOJvyNASt8A12ipyV_iwpLXg_yltGG5mffvSwo/edit?usp=sharing What is glass but tortured sand?Never forget! '12.01.13.
November 22, 20178 yr I plan on replaying it when proper co-op support is finally added sometime early next year. I've already done a solo run when it was new, and a glitchy co-op run with the makeshift multiplayer mod this year, so I've gotten plenty of value out of it already despite them taking almost two years to deliver the multiplayer functionality (that was always promised). November 22, 20178 yr If everybody is saying Elex maybe I should give it a try. I dunno, undecided on goty Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
November 22, 20178 yr If everybody is saying Elex maybe I should give it a try. Resist the peer pressure. Besides, unless you go the Razor1911 route, a bit tricky to 'try' it. Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra
November 22, 20178 yr Don't listen to the square. Sounds like a natural Berserker, that guy. All the cool kids are doing Elex! And it's heading into winter in the northern hemisphere, cold increases are only natural.
November 23, 20178 yr Haven't played that much, it's a toss up between TW: Warhammer 2 and Dishonored 2. I think I would give the award to Prey though, but as I only watched a stream playthrough of it and haven't played it myself I think that disqualifies it. "because they filled mommy with enough mythic power to become a demi-god" - KP
November 23, 20178 yr A tie between Prey and Nier: Automata I suppose. Both games are pretty much an exact opposite of each other, so that's a thing I can do, eh?
November 29, 20178 yr Prey, if only because it's the one game that I played that gripped me enough that I actually finished, figuratively speaking. D:OS2 and Nier seem rather promising, but Nier gets disqualified for being a sloppy PC port and Divinity I need to actually finish first. No basing review scores on only a partial playthrough here! (unless a game is so bad that I don't make it to the end of course, which isn't the case for D:OS2 unless quality takes a very steep nosedive later on) Edited November 29, 20178 yr by marelooke
November 30, 20178 yr Probably go with Prey or FF XV. The other best games would all be reissues like Yakuza 0, Star Ocean TLH, FF XII Zodiac. Thanks for shopping Pawn-O-Matic!

December 8, 20178 yr ^Spoiler warning for #9 He spoils the start of Prey and arguably one of the (few) big jumpscares as well. Anyway, most of those are console games (or console ports of varying quality) so not really relevant to me. And yeah, did manage to watch most of the video (skimmed through some of the console game due to not relevant to me) despite the...enthusiasm of the host.
December 8, 20178 yr I would have said Shadow Tactics - Blades of the Shogun, but it was released on early december last year. Sorry, the backlog is still huge
December 8, 20178 yr Don't think I've played through a game that was released this year. Same, though I am planning on getting through Hollow Knight and Torment: Tides of Numenera soon enough. As to which is the best game I've played for the first time this year, it's probably Undertale. That was an emotional rollercoaster and then some. My Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/alephg Currently playing: Roadwarden
December 8, 20178 yr Yeah, Undertale was my GotY last year. Quote Against stupidity we have no defense. Neither protests nor force can touch it. Reasoning is of no use. For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.
December 8, 20178 yr I forgot about Torment. Still, I think I liked Andromeda more. Free games updated 3/4/21

December 8, 20178 yr It wasn't terrible but it wasn't exactly great either. I may not be the right audience for it as I've never been able to push through Planescape. I can't think of another game I've finished from this year... still need to complete D:OS2, still need to install Elex... drawing a blank for any other games that came out this year Free games updated 3/4/21

December 9, 20178 yr Author I would have said Shadow Tactics - Blades of the Shogun, but it was released on early december last year. Sorry, the backlog is still huge It's okay, you're not the only one! I don't mind that the game isn't from 2017, I just beat Vanquish, Bayonetta and Darksiders this year. So that's saying something Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother? What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest. Begone! Lest I draw my nail...
December 9, 20178 yr Stellaris. Hands down. I spend more hours playing that than anything else. Except maybe chess. "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
December 9, 20178 yr I don't think I have one. Cuphead wins by a mile for aesthetics (I'm an animator, duh) but I HATED playing it.
