Amentep Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Well I'd want George Berry the writer director to get money from it. Did he post it to youtube, or is someone ripping him off? It is a fun and weird film (I saw it on the official DVD ) I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
Guard Dog Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Gods and Generals the Extended Director's Cut. Outstanding! and very, very long. I had to take a break in the middle and watch a little college hoops. "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Blarghagh Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Logan. Good film, but suffered from darkness induced apathy. Very joyless. Mostly works regardless.
Lexx Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 (edited) Tried to watch Jupiter Ascending a few days ago. The movie is about 2 hours.. after 1 hour I've called it a day and stopped. Can't believe this thing is from the makers of The Matrix, and I sure as hell can't believe that this turd got so many positive ratings on amazon. Also, finally watched that latest Star Wars movie yesterday. I think it was an ok movie. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, so it didn't really flash me in any kind of way, but I also didn't regret watching it. majestic Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Well I'd want George Berry the writer director to get money from it. Did he post it to youtube, or is someone ripping him off? It is a fun and weird film (I saw it on the official DVD ) I suppose someone's ripping him off, the channel sure doesn't look official (and it doesn't have ads). No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.
Maedhros Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Logan. Good film, but suffered from darkness induced apathy. Very joyless. Mostly works regardless. I thought Patrick Stewart gave it some much needed warmth. Without him it would've been too much. 3
Raithe Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TIvv7FMshU The bit to really pay attention to is Patrick Stewart's comments around the 3:11 mark... Raithe Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Having that late night re-watch of John Carter. There is something about that film that I just enjoy. A certain pulp adventure silliness that starts to cross into space opera. That, and Ciaran Hinds and James Purefoy obviously just having fun bantering between each other once again after Rome. 1 "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Guard Dog Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I finally got to see Rouge One last night. I really enjoyed it. The Tarkin & Leia CGI was a little creepy. It's clear that technology in not "there" yet. But it tied in very nicely. But the thing that impressed me the most, for a story about a civil war/ rebellion, the original 3 never felt like a civil war was going on. Kind like Skyrim actually but there were mods to fix that. Rouge One fixed that for Star Wars and they really made the Empire seem like a formidable adversary and a real threat. Empire Strikes Back did that a little but Rouge One nailed it. 1 "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Gorgon Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Jupiter Ascending on in the background. It might have a lot of silly, but the visual design is pretty damn glorious. I loved it. The premise is silly, but its so gorgeous and I don't need my space opera to be award worthy. I don't know. While I agree that entertainment doesn't need to be award-worthy (far from it, actually) I'm rapidly approaching a point where gorgeous visuals can no longer polish a turd, for both movies and games. Even low budget schlock like Iron Sky looks visually impressive these days (not that I don't like low budged schlock, I loved every moment of Iron Sky). Point in case, well, Avatar. When it came out I went to an IMAX cinema and the movie gave me vertigo in certain scenes (I hate heights, really, standing on a chair is enough to make me queasy) and I thorogouly enjoyed the three hours of special effects porn. I caught a rerun on TV recently and... boy is that one dumb film that has loads of distracting obvious CGI stuff, most prominent obviously being Saldana's blue space elf brigade. On the flipside Volo's much disliked Avengers (the first one, that is) is almost as dumb in its story premise but at least it has a roster of decent actors and some really funny dialogue. Jupiter Ascending has Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum and a Sean Bean character that actually survives. That's just wrong. Umm. A space werewolf who got his wings cut of (he had wings - a space werewolf, think about that for a minute) because he ate a guy, so now he jumps around using rocket boots and apparently he can hold on to a spaceship and hitch a ride to another planet (as in on the outside of the spaceship like a train surfer or something) if the need arises. Terrible movie but not unentertaining. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
Hiro Protagonist Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 The Accountant. Thought it was a petty good film. 1
BrotherFerg Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Watched 10 Cloverfield Lane, wasn't very impressed think it could have been a lot better John Goodman was good but it reminds me of something M Night Shyamalan would direct, very interesting at first but the ending was underwhelming. 3/5 Why does a chair have arms and legs like a man, but can't walk or hold things?
Heijoushin Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Just popping in to ask: Has anyone seen the new Power Rangers movie? Is it any good?

Raithe Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 But say what you will about Rogue One... "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Blarghagh Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Somewhat disappointing final 15 minutes - but before that it was a damn tense and horrifying little flick. Color me impressed.
Raithe Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 So the folks behind The Big Short are doing a slightly satirical take on the war in Afghanistan... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9Jg20Ukf4E 1 "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Guard Dog Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 I watched Martin Scorsese's Silence last night. Simply outstanding movie. I don't normally think much about a movie after watching them but this one had me mind working long into the night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcNKM4TI41E "While it is true you learn with age, the down side is what you often learn is what a damn fool you were before" Thomas Sowell
Raithe Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Also in the news, apparently Eddie Murphy is in the process of writing the script for Coming to America 2, and will in fact be following on 30 years on from the original. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Hurlshort Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Yeah people are freaking out about the new Coming to America, because it is a sacred cow or something. I'll have to make some time for Silence, that trailer looks amazing. War Machine looks pretty intriguing as well, almost as if it starts off as a satire but turns more serious as it goes along. At least that was the vibe I got from the trailer. 1
Gorgon Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 How is James Earl Jones still alive. He was old in the first Comming to America. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.
Chilloutman Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Anyone watched movies from Guy Richie? I re-watched Snatch yesterday for something like 100X time and man I still love it from start to end I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

War Machine looks pretty intriguing as well, almost as if it starts off as a satire but turns more serious as it goes along. At least that was the vibe I got from the trailer. I think it has that run of "the situation is so inherently awful, you can only really look at it with satire." "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."
Amentep Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 How is James Earl Jones still alive. He was old in the first Comming to America. His dad - actor Robert Earl Jones - lived to 96. Longevity is probably in his genetics. But lets be honest, James Earl Jones (who is now 86) was only 57 when the original Coming to America came out - that's not really old anymore. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
Gromnir Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Yeah people are freaking out about the new Coming to America, because it is a sacred cow or something. I'll have to make some time for Silence, that trailer looks amazing. War Machine looks pretty intriguing as well, almost as if it starts off as a satire but turns more serious as it goes along. At least that was the vibe I got from the trailer. silence is an oppressive and unrelenting film. the characters is broken and unsympathetic. the film is thematic religious but does not appeal to traditional religious viewers-- there ain't no triumph o' faith. the film is long and unconventional silent with a unique "score" comprised almost entire o' deliberate interwoven ambient nature sounds. scorsese's vanity project is masterful but is a difficult film to actual enjoy. highly recommended by Gromnir, but silence makes the mission (1987) feel almost like a mel brooks film by comparison. HA! Good Fun!
