True, but they also had a tendency to eventually release source code to their games, which I suppose won't happen now, because... You know, Denuvo. The same reason as to why doesn't the game run on Wine even tho it should work perfectly.

Doom gets updated to run trough Vulcan, yet... No Linux/Mac version in work apparently? Oh well.

Timothee "TTimo" Besset was the guy who made Linux/Mac versions of Id games.  When he left Id so did Linux/Mac ports.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

WB pulled a ton of shady **** with Shadow of Mordor to manipulate the press.  The weird thing is that the game was actually pretty ****ing awesome and they totally didn't need to do anything of the sort and could have just let the game get by on its merits.

An interesting piece:  Kotaku - Saints Row 2 was so good

I have to admit, it's one of my old favourite games (and I never seemed to get any of the grief so many others did with the pc port, the thing worked pretty smooth for me).

45 minutes of Shadow Warrior 2 gameplay:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m047BSGs4o4

Partly proceduraly generated levels, random loot including randomized weapon stats, there are floating damage indicators and enemies have health bars, guns to debuff opponents, everything kinda Borderlands-esque? I uh... I guess there are other people than me who are excited for it now. I'm kinda disappointed. Well at least I got Doom this year (and to be fair, I was also sceptic about Doom.)

As that August release date approaches, I imagine we'll be seeing a few more pieces about the new Deus Ex..

Deus Ex Mankind Divided fixes a big series problem

it was far from perfect, and its empty feeling hub areas were among its most obvious flaws.

No, it was not. Up until now I never even thought about this. To me it felt exactly like the original and that was 100% okay.

All the weapons, and I still will probably only use the sword. Also, yeah, it looks a bit... meh now.

I really like Deus Ex, but I will wait for directors cut version

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

While 4 was awesome I really couldn't stand the art style and with each new game for me the gameplay has become much more shallow and the art style worse. Shame, I really loved the series.

As with any Firaxis game, I'll wait a year or so then decide whether or not I want to buy the complete edition.

Frictional Games are working on two new games, including their first non-horror title.

Amnesia and SOMA creator, Frictional Games, unveiled that they are working on two new projects, one of which will be the studio’s first non-horror title. Frictional Games has become well-known for their popular yet simple survival horror experiences. The studio told Wow 24/7, however, that they don’t only want to be known for their horror games. Frictional Games creative director Thomas Grip said in the interview they have two titles in the works, one of which is another horror title and the other the first non-horror game the studio has made. Grip himself is overseeing the team that will be working on the experimental title. While details are still in the works, Grip remarked that his aim was to make the depressing realities of the world into a gaming experience, hoping for an audience that is “existentially traumatized.” Mechanically, Grip wants to make an experience that falls between the more complex expectations of Amnesia and the very simple mechanics of SOMA. Grip says that while he never viewed SOMA as a walking simulator as many did, he admits SOMA did lack some of the complicated planning Amnesia had.

The creative director says the main focus of the game will be on telling the narrative through the gameplay. Grip pointed to Firewatch and in particular Inside as his inspirations for the idea of driving the story through player action, saying “The story of a game should be someone playing the game.” Frictional Games has a blog post up praising Inside‘s storytelling.

As far as the horror title, it will not simple be a repeat of Amnesia, SOMA, or Penumbra. The hope is to create original mechanics for horror fans. Grip says that even while branching out into other genres, Frictional Games strives to be at the forefront of horror, and “create the games other people imitate.” The horror and the non-horror title have been in the earliest stages of development for a year, but will start to come together in the Fall. Frictional Games is not in any hurry to rush the titles out though, nor feel any need to rush.

I personally don't have any issues with "walking simulators", so long as the walking is really interesting.  As for Firewatch, brevity aside (I'm glad I waited to buy it on sale), that was a game that I felt was let down by its ending.  It was a game that seemed like it was heading somewhere really interesting, then decided to head down just about the most mundane and uninteresting path possible for its conclusion.  If Frictional do plan to make something like Firewatch then they really need to work on their dialogue, as that was Firewatch's strongest point and the dialogue in SOMA felt quite clumsy at times.  I'll definitely be interested to see what they come up with, though I'm not particularly “existentially traumatized.”

No, I like Sunset Invasion. It mixes things up in the late game and I don't care that it's ahistorical since history exits the door as soon as I start the game anyway

I pretty much always start at the 769 start date so I rarely make it far enough for it to come into play anyhow

For the random amusement value, the latest Elusive Target running at the moment on Hitman turns out to be Gary Busey.  As in, not just Gary Busey voicing it, but Gary Busey is the actual, literal target.  With the also appearance of Gary Cole.

With just the tiniest bit of imagination, I could pretend that it's actually John Elway and that I'm getting revenge on him for Super Bowl 32...

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.
