I'd love for Obsidian to do a WoD game. VtM:B is possibly my favorite game of all time.

 

Not sure a kickstarter would bring in enough money for another Bloodlines, though. I mean, for an isometric game like Wasteland or Pillars 3-4 million is enough, but for a first person, fully voiced game with mo-cap I suspect you'd need many times that amount. Look at the 3D graphics in Wasteland when you zoom way in. They aren't even on par with VtM:B's graphics from 2004. Unfortunately, creating a Bloodlines style game is super expensive. The only place they're likely to get that sort of cash is if they go to a major publisher, and then they'd ruin it by ramming a bunch of microtransactions, multiplayer modes, and other unfocused features to turn the game into a bland, uninspiring, and completely non-threatening product.

 

Bloodline's strength wasn't that it was set in the Vampire the Masquerade setting; it was the way it brought the setting to life. Little things like arguing with a stop sign as a Malkavian or pretty much any conversation with Mr. Ox would be unlikely to make it into a modern AAA game. Things are just too streamlined now.

 

Maybe they could make a smaller, isometric game in a WoD setting. It wouldn't be like Bloodlines, but on a kickstarter budget they could do something like Fallout 2 (another game where all the little details bring the setting to life). I'd definitely throw tons of money at something like that (or at least a couple hundred bucks).

 

My preference would be for Werewolf: the Apocalypse, Demon: the Fallen, or Mage: the Ascension over VT:M or VT:R, though, as those are my personal favorites from the WoD line (admittedly Mage might be hard to do as a computer game, so maybe just Demon or Werewolf).

It's got to try somehow to make it sufficiently hardcore to make you believe you are back in 2000, you know, before vampires were lame. Too much Twilight and True Blood in the meanwhile. 

 

A true sequel to Bloodlines would be awesome. Anything less... meh..

Instead of the Camarilla and the Sabbat, you have a massive conflict between new age vampires who want to embrace their new pop-culture popularity, lapping up the attention they're getting from sparkly vampire media, versus the traditionalists who shun this newfound popularity and wish for a return to relative obscurity where only PnP nerds pay them any attention.

That's already explored in the VTM material. It is flat out stated that "cool vampire" crap is made by vampires because it makes Kine more pliant to the idea. Eroticizing vampires was their smartest move. The Kiss is pleasurable, but that was just a mechanism to make you stop fighting back. Turning that **** into almost pornographic ****? Best idea ever.

All while investigating the mysterious workings of the mythos.

I'm with Gorgon. I just can't take what vampires have come to be in modern entertainment.

 

On the other hand, if they could create a game with the sort of mysterious and creepy elements I love, would be all over it. Even better than a vampire game, though, would be a really well done Call of Cthulu game where the PC doesn't chop up monsters pell mell with a magic sword, but prays like hell that his pistol might actually work against the bad guys, does a lot of running, tries his best to keep hold of his sanity. All while investigating the mysterious workings of the mythos.

 

You do realise this is heretical thought crime don't you? To be terrifying and impressive a boss must be a large pool of hit points to be slowly ground away for a few hours, with no convenient save point nearby to create artificial difficulty, this is fairly basic knowledge.

 

Perish the thought of the game providing multiple ways of dealing with an antagonist like say the Master in Fallout, "Arronax" in Arcanum or the Transcendant One in Torment, what possible satisfaction could there be in that? Having no way of dealing with the threat at all, and only a slim chance of survival, well that's just crazy talk Sir.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Yeah, I really hate how 'last boss' battles become more and more contrived, especially since a lot of games try to be clever and the last boss is actually after a line of fake last bosses. Ugh. Unless the combat is truly superb in a game, that gimmick starts to get old for me. A game that lets me deal with the final encounter in a non-combat manner if I so choose gets a bump in my estimation.

 

EDIT: ...And, *exactly* on point about not being able to 'deal' with the threat other than trying to survive it!

From what I've been hearing the V:TM property has been making the rounds among game developers again, so if it's out there and Obsidian can snag a license to make another one I'll be giggling while I wait.

For the past few years everything written under the WoD label has been outsourced to Onyx Path despite the IP still being under the White Wolf umbrella.
White Wolf is now presumably once again doing everything for WoD in-house instead of getting Onyx Path to do it.

When in doubt, blame the elves.

 

I have always hated the word "censorship", I prefer seeing it as just removing content that isn't suitable or is considered offensive

Of course it's Paradox's IP now, they can do with it however they please, especially considering they've decided to keep the new World of Darkness line (renamed as Chronicles of Darkness), which I've personally always liked more.

Wouldn't surprise me if they try to get the guys from Onyx Path back into WW (considering they are mostly ex-White Wolf employees anyway), or at least into a consulting role.  It also wouldn't surprise me if they completely cut off Onyx Path, instead desiring to put their own stamp on the game and not be bound to the old guard.

VTM:B is awesome, if obsidian given enough time and money to do it, it will be a grand game. i hope paradox is really all buddy buddy with obs. project louisiana might be this, that stormland revival, or even new fallout

Josh has already said on twitter that Louisiana is not a new Fallout.

As we speak about IP and rule system that they plan to license forward to other companies, so putting its development on hands of third party isn't just sensible thing to do from business point of view. Of course ensuring quality and loyalty of fan base of said IP is also important. But developing core rules in house don't mean that Onyx Path loses their licenses (at least I would guess that there is no point for Paradox to cancel those licenses) to make stuff in Classic World of Darkness and Chronicles of Darkness universes.

I love Bloodlines and still replay it every so often, I'd love to see a sequel  (Hell, I'd like a sequel to Arcanum and TOEE too!)  I don't know if they'll make a direct sequel to it but definitely something in the WoD universe.  I've been trying to be patient following the news the IP was sold but its hard after waiting years for the WoD MMO to go bust!  Though, there is a good looking game in the works that isn't in the WoD universe but very similar:  http://dogma-universe.com/en/

Yep, though I wouldn't be surprised if they do cancel those licenses, especially with what I have read: they have indicated that they want one World of Darkness, and want to put the fans of both back together.

Existing White Wolf licensing agreements will be re-evaluated, and only those which are working will be retained. Paradox also reveal that negotiations have been going on behind the scenes for the last year. Unclear at present is how many, if any, existing White Wolf and CCP staff will be joining the new endeavour, which will be headed up by Tobias Sjögren, formerly Paradox’s executive vice president of business development.

Sounds to me they not only don't want to support Classic WoD they actually wouldn't want to leave it running elsewhere either as it goes against their goals of uniting the community.  Then again, there's no guarantee they will be supporting the nWoD either, instead going for a third option of a whole new WoD, a third WoD.

Found some more recent news about it all, apparently Onyx Path has been named a 'future partner' whatever that means, so they are still going to be involved in whatever Paradox decide to do with it all.

Now we know Onyx Path and fans can breathe easier as they’re named as a future partner.

 

 


The theme is “One World of Darkness”. That’s the Classic World of Darkness set in the 21st century. This means one meta plot for the character driven horror epic.

There will be separate game lines but they’ll be designed so that when crossovers happen they’ll happen well. The Paradox team will sculpt events that will happen across the transmedia franchise.

 

 


They think the timing is right for a mature title. “Not for teenagers,” was said during the presentation as it was noted that White Wolf will face no content restrictions from Paradox. If they want to go to dark places – they’ll go to dark places. Elricsson got a cheer from the crowd when he said; “We can be brutal and direct but we can never be stupid”

 

The last quote is interesting, potential for a dark game that is actually dark and not some teen-angst power fantasy with lots of swearing and ****?  Anyway, I spammed this thread enough for now, better get back to work.

As someone who literally just started playing this game for the first time VMB, I'm not very far but I am thoroughly impressed so far with what I've seen. I would love for a sequel for this game.

I'd just like to say that there's no other game that would make me pay 70 euros for it. Kickstarter or not. I loved Bloodlines. Just promise us you'll keep it in development for as long as it needs to be. 10 years later and I'll want to play it. There has been no game like Vampire Bloodlines for me ever since. Fallout New Vegas was close, and now that Fallout 4 came out, everyone can clearly see which developers made FONV awesome.
