Edomira
Heya all! Can anyone tell me what Skill/Atribute/Talent/whatever is needed to find secret items ? started that game 3 or 4 times now - this time as Paladin and miss the gun in 1st map and the stash at the wolves in 3rd map Thanks in advanced Edo
Covi
Your char needs to be in scouting mode, and dependable on your Mechanics level you will discover secrets, or not. ;-) So placing points in Mechanics will enhance this. Putting points in stealth will not enhance this btw. Edited April 9, 2015 by Covi

Psychevore
It feels very counterintuitive that it's based on mechanics. Perception seems so much more logical
Luckmann
Doesn't matter. It's Mechanics. Only Mechanics. Also, you need to be in Scout Mode to detect both secrets and traps.
knownastherat
It feels very counterintuitive that it's based on mechanics. Perception seems so much more logical Maybe I am imagining things but I have feeling that Per plays role. This feeling comes from playing with Per 3 where it seems it takes longer to detect (not traps) and search radius is smaller.
SilkZither
Mechanics is the only skill you need to increase, but you need to be in stealth mode to see it. You don't need any points in stealth, but you do need to be quite close to the object to detect it. I'm not sure what level of mechanics you need, but I had 2 points in mechanics from character creation to see them.

Edomira
THANK YOU VERY MUCH Master Covi! Yeah mechanics it can be ... i have a rather weird Paladin with Mig:10 - Dex:3 - Perception: what is left (16 or so) Int:12 - Con:18 - Reflex:18 and ofc 0 Mechanics and i wasn't able to find anything ... guess i do a restart (shivers when thinking on killing the wolvies again) Greetings Edo
I am Catharsis
i think perception also counts? not sure tho Actually YES contrary to all the following answers Perception allow you to discover things from much further than without it. And this is why when you have a really low perception, even if you're above 10 in mechanics, you will see the traps at the last second before you step on it. I am Catharsis
Haha don't worry, it's not like traps in this game were instantly killing your characters... Oh wait! Ethorion
Have anyone found any secrets that required 12 mechanics to find?
I am Catharsis
Not yet. There might be none in the game. Increasing mechanics over 10 or 11 is almost pointless except for the efficiency on the traps you set. Rosveen
Have anyone found any secrets that required 12 mechanics to find? There is one in the Endless Paths that requires 11 or 12 (I'm not sure, but I know it was more than 10). Also a door with 12, but this can be opened with 11 + lockpicks.

DocDoomII
There are random magic items with +2 mechanics. Do you think Pillars of Eternity doesn't have enough Portraits? Submit your vote in this Poll!
