Cantousent Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Hey, thanks for the pics, iamgoukus. I think I should be getting this also. I'm not really sure. It was damned thoughtful of you to share it with the community, though. iamgoukas Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 My pleasure. Trying to share the love of all things PoE More interest benefits all of us! 1
Katarack21 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I won't be getting this; I'm pretty sure that all I'm getting is the game and the expansion later. Makes me sad.
Falkon Swiftblade Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 That is super nice. How many page's is it again?
ruzen Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 that is accually looks really nice added to my pledge hope It will be available 4-5 days before release so I can read Kana - "Sorry. It seems I'm not very good at raising spirits." Kana winces. "That was unintentional."
iamgoukas Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 111 pages, worth every penny. Trying to read it all, but reading it makes me want to replay the beta over and over again. Slow process 1
IndiraLightfoot Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) iamgoukas: Thx for sharing, mate! Brilliant stuff. I read every word of it, and reckon I can come to this conclusion already: Josh has poured his soul into the lore and cultures and socio-historical contexts and conflicts. What a fantastic effort! Hats off to you, Mr Sawyer. Finally, a game with some academic diligence and depth. Tort Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 No hints in the book, all lore all the time. It's like a history book with extended footnotes on creatures, gods, locations, etc. Absolutely no spoilers as far as story and characters in present (game world) time. Any new maps ?
AndreaColombo Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I won't be getting this; I'm pretty sure that all I'm getting is the game and the expansion later. Makes me sad. You can buy it from Amazon or directly from Dark Horse Comics. "Time is not your enemy. Forever is." — Fall-From-Grace, Planescape: Torment "It's the questions we can't answer that teach us the most. They teach us how to think. If you give a man an answer, all he gains is a little fact. Havelok Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 More pages here: https://www.darkhorse.com/Books/Previews/28-219?page=1 Everything is pretty light on spoilers except the part about the Watcher. Don't read that part. 7
lightblade75 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Thanks for showing those pages. Now I know that it was a good idea to order those two books. Here in Germany it will reach the buyers via Amazon by 26th of March.
Zack Fair Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Let me ask you guys, is this the book called World Almanac on the pledge page of PoE? J_C from Codexia
HozzM Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Let me ask you guys, is this the book called World Almanac on the pledge page of PoE? No that is a different book. The Kickstarter term/item for the Darkhorse Pillars of Eternity Guidebook Volume 1 is the 'Project Eternity Collector's Book'.
kozzy Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Wow, thanks for this post! Can tell Josh Sawyer and the team put a ton of work into this! dat lore though!
Dihn19 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 You can also go to Amazon and see a little preview. There is a section where you can click to look inside the book and that will show some more pages. Looks pretty cool.
ManifestedISO Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 NOW I HAVE THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL Local comic shop had one copy. When the other one comes from Amazon, I'll have two, and be twice as awesome. 8 All Stop. On Screen.
Falkon Swiftblade Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) I'm still confused why it's volume 1, and what it is vs the strategy guide and almanac. PS: you live close enough to Obsidian offices you could probably show up and have those guys sign these for you! Edited March 15, 2015 by Falkon Swiftblade 1
Leferd Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Perhaps Volume 2 will come out with PoE 2? "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle
Gairnulf Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Drilling holes into skulls of living people who were perceived to be mad was a practice in the Middle ages. As usual, I'm very satisfied with the lore's complexity and depth, and happy to recognize the touches of a fellow historian During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, trepanation was practiced as a cure for various ailments, including seizures and skull fractures. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trepanning#Pre-modern_Europe A popular philosophy during this time, which had become the basic form of psychology was interactionistic dualism, where the body was believed to be governed by the soul (Brown & Menninger, 1940). http://mentalillness.umwblogs.org/middle-ages/ Edited March 16, 2015 by Gairnulf 3 A Custom Editor for Deadfire's Data:
ManifestedISO Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I'm still confused why it's volume 1, and what it is vs the strategy guide and almanac. Josh has this to say in the Foreword: We want you to feel that you are a part of this world, one of the many forces that can push and pull the Eastern Reach from its tumultuous present into its promising future. With that in mind, please take the contents of this book for what they are: snapshots of one corner of a world that is, like our own, ever in motion. We hope that you can help us illuminate the contents of many more volumes in the years to come. 5 All Stop. On Screen.
Lephys Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Obviously, they felt that anything above 1 would've been too loud. 6_u 2 Should we not start with some Ipelagos, or at least some Greater Ipelagos, before tackling a named Arch Ipelago? 6_u

Rumsteak Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Those wicht monster children look pretty rad! Can't wait to chop their heads off and wonder if by doing so, I haven't become a monster myself. Edited March 16, 2015 by Rumsteak 1
LHWong Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I did a pre-order via BookDepository.com. They have just notified me that it has been made available to them and will be dispatched shortly! Maybe I'll get it on or before March 26!
mstark Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 This thread made me go straight to Amazon, and was happy to find I could order it in EU. Can't wait. "What if a mid-life crisis is just getting halfway through the game and realising you put all your points into the wrong skill tree?"
