IndiraLightfoot Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I know. That badly needs to be changed. If you want, you can give your own party supernatural non-combat movement speed as well. Just press "D" - Josh showed us that in the vid. *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***
Quetzalcoatl Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Characters need a getting up from prone animation and picking stuff up from ground animation, this is not 1998 anymore. It is 1998 in terms of budget. Also, the characters do have a standing up from prone animation. They're pushing their bodies in an upwards position like a person in real life would. It's very subtle, but it's there. A looting animation would likely make the act of looting just more tedious. Edited November 14, 2014 by Quetzalcoatl 3
lordkim Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Looks great , but damn these battles seems confusing.. too fast and too much visual effects ! 1

lordkim Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 last time i checked there stood +2000 or something..

Quantics Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I stopped watching halfway through. The guy was annoying and skipped over the dialogues way too fast. Plus I figured I would prefer discovering all the areas myself when the game is out.
GrinningReaper659 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 So, has there been any word on whether or not the "backed by" type stuff concerning backer NPCs is going to stay in? I'd love an official word from the devs on this one. That type of stuff is entirely too intrusive and immersion breaking and would certainly make a lot of people look negatively at future crowdfunding projects. We all appreciate each others' contributions to getting this thing made, great, but let's make the game well now that it is being made. Backer designed NPCs standing out is not a good thing. 6 "Forsooth, methinks you are no ordinary talking chicken!" -Protagonist, Baldur's Gate

As I said, let us talk to them and find out their history that way. It is not that much extra work to give them some lines and split the that wall of text into answers and those will not break immersion like current ones do. 7
Labadal Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 I watched some of it but it became unbearable at one point so I skipped large sections. Locations look good. Surprised that Calisca wasn't voiced but som other characters were.
Endrosz Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Calisca will have VO. Sawyer mentioned at the start that the bulk of voiceovers were done recently, and they're not hooked up yet. Gairnulf Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Things that made an impression on me from the stream: 1. Although he made made me laugh a couple of times, in the future we can completely dispense with so-called "video games personas", and I doubt anyone will miss them. Or was it a "video game personality"? Was this really his personality, or a persona? I don't want to know. Anyway, from what I've seen, this is a community of mature and civilized people, and putting a guy who screams improvised attempts at humor half the time... ok, I won't go into personal remarks, maybe this was meant to appeal to kids, if kids are the game's target audience. 2. Still, if we take the "persona" for a good representative of the average gamer out there, it has been proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, that combat needs to become more manageable, feature lockdown or no. 3. All the time while I was playing the Backer beta I thought those backer NPC are working this way only until the final release... I have no idea why should I get a wall of text upon clicking on an npc, all the more when the wall of text is completely unrelated to what's happening in the game. What the hell is this? They are NPC, not books, right? IMO it's unacceptable for the backer NPCs to remain like that in the final release. And to think I was sorry I was too late to have my own NPC... It looked like such a good idea when I learned about it, that I regretted being late, and to see it realized like this, is just unfortunate. 4. After watching 2 hours of gameplay, I am even more convinced that the characters should walk by default instead of run, but I guess this isn't something Obsidian would discuss at this stage.4.1 Apparently we won't be seeing any significant updates to the HUD UI layout either. 5. Putting those things aside, I was very satisfied to watch how the writing and technology present the story to the player. Combined with voiced party NPC, music, and mostly with fixed combat animation speeds, I get a stable <incline intensifying> feeling. Nonek Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Are there any prominent let's players whom specialise in the IE games? That would seem to be a lot more of a pertinent personality to judge the game in comparison to its forebear. Mr Cox seemed more suited to capering in the vicinity of an Organ Grinder. Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!
JFSOCC Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Loved the stealth part although I noticed no investigation during the "red" fill, dunno if that's a bug. Stealth is still being balanced I imagine, but it really works like I hoped it would. Friendly fire, well, I guess I'll be able to turn it off. I think it would be wise to highlight any allies that maybe caught in a friendly blast before you click, because I couldn't see Jesse hitting Calisca till it was too late. (and neither did he, apparently) Still don't understand why you can't choose your two colours of a colour wheel, that's much better, broader, and shouldn't be hard to implement at all. I'm hoping to have ways to fill in parts of the map that you can't possibly uncover otherwise, I did notice some areas that simply will never show. One of those things that can really mess with my head like I'm autistic or something. (no, I'm not) Loved the environment art, really up to spec. Hope for more variation in battle music, perhaps based on location? It should be easier to identify what is what when you pick up things, so that you don't end up sending important stuff to the stash while keeping trivial items. Likewise it should be apparent that certain items don't take up space at all. I'm not sure how I feel about the presentation of Backer NPC's. it certainly is different from what I envisioned they would entail. The depiction of intelligence as knowledge, once again, made me cringe. Intelligence and knowledge are not the same. Great that you know something about the religion to save your rogue pall, but that sounded more like a lore check than an intelligence check. Pet peeve I know, but I ****ing hate it, and I had hoped that my extensive campaigning on behalf of that on these forums would have filtered through . It was clear very quickly, that it wasn't nearly clear enough what the value, advantages and disadvantage of armour were to Jesse's wizard, Obsidian needs to work on relaying the information in such a way that even newbies can understand the value and trade-offs of gear. All in all the vibe was really good though, I like most of what I've seen. Even if I've yet to find someone try something different with character creation. 3. Yeah, this NPC as a biography poster child dummy needs to go.seconded And yes, Jesse was not the right person to show us this game. Or maybe he was as I imagine many would play like him. But it would be great to see someone play this game with a little more consideration and at a slower pace. As for modding in maps/terrain: I'm sure it's very hard Josh, but why not let the modding community try it anyway. Give em a little credit. No matter how unlikely it is they succeed, shouldn't they at least have the chance to try? Edited November 14, 2014 by JFSOCC Remember: Argue the point, not the person. Remain polite and constructive. Friendly forums have friendly debate. There's no shame in being wrong. If you don't have something to add, don't post for the sake of it. And don't be afraid to post thoughts you are uncertain about, that's what discussion is for.---Pet threads, everyone has them. I love imagining Gods, Monsters, Factions and Weapons.
Gairnulf Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) JFSOCC reminded me about something - I would really like, if not a color wheel for choosing character colors, at least more possible colors added, including white and gray. I really wanted to have my padded jacks look authentic while playing the beta. I know it's a minor request, but it's also a minor effort to add those colors. archangel979 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Actually Jesse was a perfect show of an average gamer with no special IE games connection. He showed OE how those gamers that I am sure they also want to buy and enjoy the game will be fraking up without Sawyer next to them to hold their hand and use "cheat codes" to let them continue the journey.
archangel979 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Not every but there were a bit too many. They had that double Missile attack vs the bear where the shield animation competely covered the missiles animations and no newbie actually knows what exactly damaged the target.
Uomoz Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Should get a DotA 2 player into Paradox HQ to play the game Dendi ofc. :D
Starwars Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Went to sleep still in the beginning area yesterday and I watched the rest of it today. Gotta say the game is looking mighty good and it's so... *fresh* to see non-beta areas of the game, other dialogues and areas, hehe. Really made me want to play the game, got me excited again. Stun Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Gawd, I can't take it anymore. Having to listen to that Jesse guys mindnumbing, unfunny comments... mercy. I agree. I managed to endure it for an hour, but.... no more. Whatever cool new footage I missed in hour 2 will just have to wait until someone gets their sh*t together. Good Job vetting your live stream guest choices there Paradox/Obsidian. Next time you might consider finding someone who takes your games seriously, instead of some herp-derp who's putting on a fake Tourette's syndrome act and who appears to have never played a computer RPG in his life.
