"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together." - President Dwight D. Eisenhower January 17th 1961

Looked up an article the Navy's newest destroyer, DDG-1000 Zumwalt, and I couldn't help but notice one tiny detail in the caption for one image. Care to guess what it was?

Quote
“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

My sister has been to America a year ago and the breakfast was her main complain. And I thought the food in Iceland was bad, but it seems US food in general is a whole 'nother level of awfulness.

I gazed at the dead, and for one dark moment I saw a banquet.

That's really going to depend on where you go in the US.  It's a bit of a large country, and the food varies tremendously from region to region.
