Normal push ups do nothing, you're not supposed to do them at all. if you are really concerned about your wrist health and you want to do push-ups do them on closed fists, that way you don't bend your wrists to hell. 

With push ups you only push like 65% of your own body weight which is nothing, the only push-ups worth doing are those where someone is sitting on your upper back, its the poor mans bench press and a very good exercise if you there is no training equipment available.  [/offtopic]

A lot of fitness advice sounds strange to the unexperienced, and honestly, I couldn't care less if you don't like my advice. When it comes to sports I only care about the opinion and critics of those who are experienced athletes themselves.

I guess I've been a semi-professional athlete for about 20 years.  But don't worry, my lack of certification does affect my credibility, so trust people with an education in kinesiology.
