GhostofAnakin
Nearing the end of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Enjoyed it so far. Interesting story concept, nice variety of weapons to kill enemies with, and enough extras that you can find laying around for the completionist in me. Agiel
Finished an 84 hour scenario (with some time compression, which comprised of about eight actual gameplay hours) of Command: Modern Air/Naval Operation depicting the opening stages of the Second Battle of the Atlantic in the War that Never Was in late 1990. The Soviets had invaded Iceland and based two fighter regiments and a regiment of Tu-16 Badger maritime bombers at Keflavik Air Station near the capital of Reykjavik. Taking advantage in a temporary breach disruption of SOSUS (Sound Surveillance System, fixed sonar arrays at the bottom of the ocean that serve as tripwires against Soviet subs), the Soviets attempt to sortie their fast attack and first-strike ballistic missile subs into the open Atlantic. Meanwhile, the forces of NATO are tasked with plugging the new holes in the GIUK (Greenland, Iceland, United Kingdom) gap and take the Soviet Union's decapitation strike capabilities out of play with their own submarines (the American Los Angeles class boats Providence, Houston, and Baltimore, as well as the British Trafalgar and the Norwegian Kobben with the assistance of P-3C Orions stationed at Stornoway Air Base in the UK. All the while the Carrier Battle Group around the Nimitz makes its way through the North Atlantic towards the Norwegian Sea to provide much needed naval and aviation support to the Norwegians holding against the Warsaw Pact forces at the Trondheim Bottleneck. At the end of three days the three Soviet Yankee-class ballistic missile subs are destroyed by a combination of submarines and the P-3 Orions and the aviation wing out of Keflavik have been nearly wiped out after vicious air battles over the Atlantic against American F-15s and British Tornadoes as well as F-14s launched from the Nimitz (including a huge furball between the Tu-16s and their Su-27 escorts and the F-14s scrambled to intercept them). In addition, the P-3s dropped enough sonobuoys between England and Iceland to enable the British Royal Marines to simply march to Iceland to liberate it from Soviet control (not serious). This battle was not without losses though, as the USS Providence was lost when it revealed its position when it fired upon and destroyed one of the Yankee-class subs, as well as a FFG-7 Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate to some AS-6 Kingfish missiles when it was caught outside the protective umbrella of the guided missile cruiser Bunker Hill whilst hunting a Victor-class submarine. And in the ensuing air battle several P-3s, F-14s, and Tornadoes were lost. To make matters worse, several Soviet attack subs have managed to break out of the GIUK gap and disappear into the vast expanse of the open Atlantic to threaten NATO convoys. Next scenario involves the REFORGER convoys heading to Europe to deliver badly needed men and material to the Central Front. Several of the F-15s based out of Stornoway, so crucial to the air war over the Atlantic, have relocated to Rammstein Air Base in West Germany. Capitilising on this development, the Soviets have managed to replenish their aviation forces in Iceland and their most dangerous maritime bombers, the Tu-22M Backfires, have been fully deployed and are ready to strike at NATO forces and convoys traversing the North Atlantic... Edited May 25, 2014 by Agiel 1 Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.” -Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>> Quote "The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete." -Rod Serling
TheChris92
The Citadel DLC was so downright 180-degree-eyes-rolling-inside-the-skull-silly that it felt like I was suddenly playing a Suda51 game -- At any moment I expected Shepard & crew, to suddenly break into song & dance, while inhaling in the air of zany as their lungs would turn into balloon animals. It almost got to that point during the DLC. In retrospect, I enjoyed it a alot more than the actual ME2 & ME3. I'd argue that Bioware is at their best when it comes to humor. That one particular dialogue exchange in ME2, where a Drill Sergeant would belittle his men's incompetence when handling heavy weaponry always made me smile. That was back when Chris L'Etoile & a few others were still on the team though.
Humanoid
So I picked up EVE from the Humble daily because why not, then predictably spent altogether too long on character creation to the point I logged off and did something else immediately after. Came back to it later in the afternoon to do the tutorial, but it completely failed to grab me: as far as I can tell, it's a game based around selecting options from a multitude of drop-down menus. So eh, that's enough for now, but given that a month's sub is included I might try again later. What did happen after was almost predictable however. My itch for a space game having been tickled, I fired up Privateer and started a fresh game. Suddenly it's 2am. Oops. God I love this game. Twenty years on though, I still keep making the same gameplay mistakes I made back then. Neglecting to restock my missiles. Forgetting to buy sector maps after getting my jump drive. Underestimating the engine upgrade needed to fuel my latest gizmos. Buying a new ship too early and not having enough cash left over to kit it out. Forgetting I can't make stopovers during delivery missions. But I have my Centurion now and all is good with the world ....even though my current loadout is two missile launchers and no guns at all. 1 L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
Keyrock
So, I've pretty much done everything around Trelis short of liberating the city or wiping out the rebels at Nemora. I guess it;s time to head north toward Geldern and Silden. If I remember correctly, these were areas that were quite obviously far from complete when Piranha Bytes released the game, since there wasn't much of anything to do there. The content mod and quest pack, I think address this, though the user made quests will likely be of the simple kill x monsters or fetch quest varieties. Better than nothing, I guess. I made a mistake when I sold off my halberd in favor of a bearded axe. Sure, the axe does a little more damage and gives me +10 health, for some reason, but I'd rather have the reach of the halberd back. Oh well. Hopefully I find a non-worn halberd lying around somewhere. Malcador
Played some Nexus TJI, the game aged well looking at the ships and effects. Why has elegance found so little following? GhostofAnakin
Finished Wolfenstein: The New Order tonight. Overall, good game. Even someone like me, who hates the typical boss fights, enjoyed this one. It kind of built on what you learned over the course of the game. I'm going to replay through the game again to pick up the various trophies and goodies I missed on my first time through. It also gives me a chance to pay closer attention to any story elements I might have missed the first time. Raithe
Destroyed the world a few times now in Plague, Inc. Evolved. Worked my way from bacteria, to viruses, to fungi, to the neurax worm, and parasites.... Interesting concept, helps make you a bit more aware of how transmission occurs and plagues spread.. But I'm not sure it's sufficiently evolved from a phone app game to really be considered more then a 'casual game' and more of a strategy one. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum." marelooke
Got some time to continue my Dead Space 3 playthough, get near-ish to the end now (I'm in chapter 13 or 14 or so). There is some seriously cringe worthy situations in there. Cringe worthy in the sense that you go "Seriously? Are you for real?" not the "Ewwww, gross" type of cringe worthy. Still annoyed by Ellie's make-over, not (just) because of the make-over per se but because her face model seems bad... somehow. The other characters don't seem to have this problem but hers looks "off" in a way, almost as if they'd been messing with it until the very end and then ran out of time to finish it properly. Oh well, can't say I care much for any of the characters I'm dealing with anyway (big difference with DS1), I'm more interested in more background on the markers and what exactly happened on Tau Volantis. ShadySands
I gave up on trying to get the first Van Helsing game to work for more than a few minutes so I'm just moving on to the second game and hopefully I have better luck EDiT: I also took a hour or so to give the Shadowrun Online beta a once over. I'm actually really impressed with what they have so far which is admittedly not much but it's not pure crap either which I was afraid it might be Edited May 26, 2014 by ShadySands Free games updated 3/4/

melkathi
Having a blast in Van Helsing 2. Finished chapter 1. End of chapter statistics show that I missed some secrets and a couple of quests. One of those quests I knowingly refused, the other may be bugged. Well, will have to pay more attention next playthrough. There are a couple of things to do differently. For one I need to answer all riddles correclty next time. I knew I was answering wrongly, but I just couldn't stop myself But I need a break for the night. The Perun area is crammed with enemies that are a pain to fight, summoning tons of minions to swarm you. If unprepared you can die very easily there. 8 out of my 9 deaths the whole chapter where in this area :/ Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise). melkathi
You have that character's inventory. Most likely that includes bonus skill and ability points from various quests or feeding the statue in the swamps. It also means your character probably had access to different perks, unlocked by playing. You should rather quickly find good stuff, but some of the oranges or fully enchanced yellows you may already have can be very good for a while. But the money is really usefull. I spend a million gold rather quickly Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise). GhostofAnakin
I feel like an idiot in one section of Wolfenstein: the New Order. It's a part where you're chased by this big mechanical dog thing, and you're supposed to slide under some metal pipes, then cut a chain to open a trap door. But you only have a short amount of time to do it before the big mechanical dog breaks through and kills you. My problem is I kept trying to cut the entire length of chain, and nothing seemed to work. So I died a bunch of times until I realized you're not supposed to cut along the entire chain, but just focus on one area of the chain in order to cut through it. Doh!
