What are you playing now?

Started playing last light and HOLY HELL is this an atmospheric game.

Although i think the devs need to go back in and retool SOMETHING because THIS keeps happening

It's the flickering of the light and I assume it's based around the fact that it can't really refresh very well but I donno.

Playing "Go Home Dinosaurs!"

A fun little tower defence where gophers are trying to protect their BBQ from ravenous hordes of dinosaurs.

The pop refrences and terrible puns are priceless.

Gopher grunt shoots from his tree stump: "This is my stump. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

Gopher with freeze ray: "I see dinos. Get it? Icy dinos?"

Though my favourid has to be the laser which is "historically accurate!"

Trying out XCOM. Man is the gameplay terrible... will I have to play a strategy game with a gamepad?

That's funny, I was playing the original the other night using the OpenXcom mod, and I was having all sorts of trouble getting my troops in cover positions and lined up properly.

Edit:  I played the new one with the mouse and the only problems I had were with occasional camera glitches.  I heard they were fixed, but I haven't checked it myself.

Try it, i did and i liked it. Took a while to get used to keyboard and mouse when i played it again on PC. Eitherway it takes some time to get used to controls,  so just continue playing.

Gave it a bit more time. May play through it, but am glad I did not pay full price for it. Most likely I will return to UFO: Extraterrestrials Gold Edition for the true UFO experience. It doesn't have fancy graphics and may be a bit deadlier, but at least gameplay doesn't feel dumbed down for consols (my soldiers can crouch ;) ).

In this new XCOM throwing grenades is a pain. I had enemies with jetpacks jump through a solid concrete roof, then land on the roof they jumped through, so they could shoot at me from a higher elevation... It isn't as bad as UFO: Aftermath, which had random maps that i would generate from scratch when you loaded a game, even while on the map - so if you were taking cover behind a house, saved the game to have dinner and loaded afterwards to continue playing, the house would most likely not be there anymore...

Why did Bruce want 2 copies lol

I didn't. I forgot I had it, it just shows how neglected my Steam game list is

Metro Last Light.

Has one of the most awkward and unnecessary sex scenes known to man. I could undestand the stripper earlier (long story, but having your player get a lap dance makes sense in context) but the actual sex scene comes later. Basically the only female character in the game (well, beyond the extras) is stuck with you, laments the fact that she feels alone and probably won't survive what's coming, and sits on your lap. Then it's "Go ahead, have some fun" and the screen whites out.

No reason for it to be there, beyond "Crap, we need another naked breast!"

What we need is an AAA porn game to outclass and make obsolete in a single stroke every sex/nudity scene in games.

It should feature a roster of characters from Kirby to Mass Effect to cover all possible tastes. New characters should be bought as microtransactions, and there should be anonymous multiplayer.

****, with this I'd be a millionaire in a fortnight.

Why does everyone assume it's the sex scene itself that's stupid? It's the relationship between the two characters that is.

You see the woman all of 2 times (well three, but in one she's just background) in the game, one of which she's constantly demeaning you. The next time you see her basically has her as the damsel in distress before you rescue her, and she just goes "Hey, let's bone!". I'd have believed a gay romance between you and Pavel (You meet him in the second level) before this girl decides that she wants you.

Bascially I'm saying that it's about as realistic as the hooker in Boomtown who makes the question "You want to sleep with me?" literal.

Sad part? The sex is only there for ONE purpose, in one of the endings

Either way, the game needed somebody to come in and adjust the pacing a bit. The setting seems ripe for a Borderlands Esque (more serious mind you) MMO.

True, although I think that you'd need to have speech bubbles to properly make that work given all the incidental discussions going on in the towns.

On my Intel i7 and GTX 560 it runs and looks well enough on 1280x720, medium textures, no SSAA, and very high tessellation.

As for the gameplay, I'm glad for the stealth options and non-lethal takedowns (I hope the Metro has plenty of MRI machines to go around, because, you know, being knocked out for more than half and hour is super bad for you). After one of the mutant sections past the half-way mark, I was literally down to using my military grade ammo against the boss, which as you may well know is literally p***ing money away.

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

Quote

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."
