LadyCrimson Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) For some people, Veronica never levels past 12 without a fixer mod. That's a fairly bad bug. I've no objection to fixing the guns skill scaling for Boone, either. I think he'd still seem overpowered even so. Ranged/guns just are. I also didn't realize for a long time that they'd sometimes use stimpacks if they were in their inventory. Occasionally useful, but they don't use them until their health is pretty low, and in Hardcore probably not very effective. Wheel's better. ------------------------------------------------- Another mod, this one about aesthetics. I think it gives companions the 'lucky 38' random idle-type routines, except when they're still hired with you. They'll still re-equip weapons/attack enemies if they come in range, and you can still put them in normal 'wait' mode instead. Funny stuff. It works with the CHAR.-based more-companions mod I posted earlier but overall doesn't seem to stack well with most companion mods. It's just for kicks anyway. http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34955 Edited November 21, 2010 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. Cantousent Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Fallout joinable npcs have always been a pain. I'm exactly with you in regards to the stories, Starwars. I mean, you could miss the associated companion quests and you're not losing a huge part of the game. The quests are fun, but there's so much other content that it's no huge deal if you don't explore all of them. On the other hand, if you want to do the companion quests, it adds a lot to the game. LadyCrimson Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Lady, from what I see you're playing a post apocalyptic doll house. Oddly enough, I don't like the Sims, but I do like making npc's in rpg's do silly things if available. They put those hats & clothes in, after all. Maybe I'm role-playing. Yea, that must be it. You think they'd wear their armor & weapons 24 hrs a day for months on end? Nooooo, I don't think so....gotta make time for sleep & par-tays! Most of the time I am playing the game. But the funny makes me smile. “Things are as they are. Cantousent Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Hey, you pay for the game, you should be able to enjoy whatever it lets you do. It's like the King telling you that Rex attacks folks in hats. Made me wonder if he'd attack Boone for wearing his beret all the time. Tale Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 He never said Rex attacks people in hats, he just hates them. It's rats he attacks. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Cantousent Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I can't remember wear to get those party hats LC has in those photos, but I wonder if Rex would hate me if I went around wearing one of those. I found one at some point, but now I can't quite remember. No biggie. After I helped out Rex, I replaced him with ED-E. I do miss the knockdown effect, though. That was right handy sometimes. LadyCrimson Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) The hats were in the Repconn area for Novac, in one of the upper level research lab closets on a shelf. ...something else I don't like about melee in this game:having to stare at the overly huge image of my bat/hammer/whatever that takes over 1/3 of the screen. WDeranged Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I was in the abandoned brotherhood bunker last night and noticed some foreshadowing of the Sierra Madre DLC, fingers crossed we're getting some Burned Man DLC too
Humanoid Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Is friendly fire implemented? I've been avoiding shooting at all when a companion decides to run up to a random insect instead of shooting it. If I ever played a melee character I guess the reverse concern would apply too. With the aforementioned mods I guess the party members shooting each other up might occur too. As for FO1/2 companions - Ian was just a tribute to Iolo clearly. Name is close enough, the only difference is whether you get shot in the back with a triple crossbow or an SMG. L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
Cantousent Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Friendly fire is very very forgiving in New Vegas, but you *can* shoot your friends in combat. Overall, New Vegas would never be a very good shooter in terms of the physics, but if it were completely based on player skill and reflexes, I would be crying bloody murder instead of praising the game. ...And my fps skill and reflexes at 41 are *damned* good. HoonDing Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Do companions actually use stimpaks during combat if you put some in their inventory? Edited November 22, 2010 by virumor The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
LadyCrimson Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) Do companions actually use stimpaks during combat if you put some in their inventory? Yes. Try it & see. Put in 10, take them to a few fights where they may take some damage but you know they'll win, don't heal them with the Wheel, and then check their inventory. Chances are good they'll have used a couple. Sometimes it seems like they use one if walk over a mine, too, but not always...like I said, they don't use them a lot...eg it won't save their butts in a serious fight. Friendly fire -- the only time you have to worry about it is if you get a sneak critical on their head or something. Winging them with occasional stray hits doesn't do much dmg. However, if you put grenades in their inventory, sometimes they'll toss them where you used to NOT be, but you don't know it and move there. -------------- Lastly, my own amusement again: OMG, Boone & Gannon together...it's my new favorite thing. So hysterical when they're both in "hunting" mode, going back & forth, back & forth saying their lines. They once got "stuck" doing that for 5 minutes, I nearly peed my pants laughing so hard. They always start out shooting standing close to each other then Gannon pulls way out in front (pistol vs. rifle?). They go absolutely perfect together. Thank you multiple companion modders!! Boone: Hmm. Gannon: What's going on? Boone: Keep looking. Gannon: Huh.. Boone: Company! Gannon: Herree we go Boone: Can't run from me! *bangbangbang* Gannon: *pewpewpewpewpew* Boone: Eat this! Boone: Gone. Gannon:I guess that could have gone worse! Edited November 22, 2010 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. HoonDing Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'm now using Cass, Boone, E-DE & Veronica. Veronica doesn't really get to kill much outdoors. I'll still pick up Lily for some more close-quarters support, and Arcade for his questline. I also installed the Richer Casinos mod, just because I love playing blackjack so much. The Strip casinos having a limit of 1,500,000 earnings, though, may be a bit excessive. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
LadyCrimson Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) lol, maybe you need a mod that lowers the payout ratios so you can gamble a lot more without winning tons of cash, if that makes sense. (edit) I rarely have more than 20-30k caps, stopped gambling, and I don't spend much on anything but ammo (usually don't bother with implants). But I need to get an implant or use more IT to boost my CHAR. so I can hire a 3rd human companion. I hear Raul's a gunslinger and has some funny lines. The three together oughta be good. *rubs hands together* Edited November 22, 2010 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. Labadal Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 There must be something wrong (in a good way for me) with how I play this game. I think I will easily spend 100+ hours on my first playthrough. Planning to find every location, and complete every mission I can + the small fetch quests from different people.
Amentep Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I have restarted a few times because of disappearing companions problems. Love the game, not crazy about companions disappearing and being unrecoverable (and they're carrying my stuff!) I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
Labadal Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I have multiple saves just in case something like that happens. The game crashed and I freaked out, thought the save was corrupted, but I was lucky.
Amentep Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Unfortunately I tend to only keep a handful of saves and since your companion walks behind you its real easy (for me at least) to miss that they aren't there and have overwritten all the saves with bugged games (did this twice with Ed-E and once with Veronica) I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
Tale Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 (edited) My inner child is weeping. I understand being happy with New Vegas. I understand wanting more. But the last thing I would like to see is Fallout becoming Call of Duty and Obsidian turning into Infinity Ward or Treyarch. Some people actually want that. entrerix Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 i'd be ok with that if we got a fallout game every 3 years or so. that gives 6 years of dev time to each studio, leaving them plenty of time to make other stuff and keep their creativity. Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.
