CoM_Solaufein Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 My problem with this game is it crashes to the desk top, a lot. I have two computers and it does the same to both of them. One is a WinXP dual core with 2G of RAM and two ATI 3870's in Crossfire. The other computer is a Windows 7 64 bit OS with 4G of RAM and an ATI 5770 card. The problem always happens when I'm outside. It has something to do with far off images starting to come into view the closer you get to it and that's when the game starts to stutter and crashes. The game defaulted to ultra settings when I installed it but I turned it way down from that and it still does the same thing but not as much. My WinXP machine only crashed once prior to the patches installing themselves. It got worse after that. entrerix Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 mine crashed 4 times in 53 hours. which is a lot less than fallout 3 did. I have a 9800gt, and an even older processor with only 3 gigs of ram. i'm running the game on high settings at 1680 resolution. it gets a little stuttery when i am in a casino, but no where else. am I lucky or are other people unlucky? Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

LadyCrimson Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Um, won't the Bethesda people get mad? Separate link for Fallout: New Vegas forums. Hmm? Why would they get mad about FNV threads? I think they don't want there to be an actual FNV titled Forum here, so their fora can be the "Officiall" place, but there's no issue with ppl discussing the game here? And there's already a link to Beth's forums from the forum index page. “Things are as they are. I definitely have the same stutter over on the PS3 side, and come to think of it, both of my lockups have been outdoors as well. Kind of a shame, it runs pretty smooth otherwise. Hopefully fixable! You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Reapercussions

Nightshape Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I've had no issues, I also notice that a PS3 patch has been released, I'm personally happy with the game. Kaftan Barlast Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I had very poor framerate until I installed the DirectX fix, but other than that it's fine. It does crash once a day, but nothing above the ordinary. ..and I have an nvidia card, that helps DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. Welsher Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) Im new here so forgive me if this is in the wrong place, This is for PC (Don't think specs are needed) I've noticed (I have looked around to see if anyone else is having this problem but couldn't find anything) that there is no 'crippled walk' animation for the player for when you walk with any two handed weapons with a leg or both legs crippled and no crippled running animation for the player when two handed weapons are equipped, There is an animation for NPCs for both as I have seen them many times, just not one for the player. Anyone on the PC confirm this or is this just me? Edited October 26, 2010 by Welsher
LadyCrimson Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 (just reporting) The game has frozen on me total 4 times now. But that over 20-22 hrs total so it's not a big deal as I manual save very often. Only the game freezes, not my whole desktop, & always very random, usually when I'm in mouse motion tho. Still nothing else besides the minor graphical stuff, no quest bugs or anything. Oh wait, I do occasionally get this strange audio issue, where I hear something that sounds like a cross between rice krispies & rat-tat-rat-tat gunfire while standing/walking over one particular spot (the 'spot' changes), but nothing is around. And I do mean nothing. No Legions around the hill firing at wolves. I check. First time I heard it I thought maybe it was a dust-devil against metal sound effect, but if I save/reload, the noisy 'spot' is gone. “Things are as they are. HoonDing Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 The game froze once on me so far, and I presume it's an audio issue just like with FO3. But I do have a very annoying hiccup every time I exit a loot screen or dialogue screen, which I presume is also audio related. I'll have to try to use Madfilter codec with it, which is how I solved audio/freezing issues in FO3. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Starwars Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Just a heads-up. The newest NVIDIA drivers (released on the 25th) supposedly has improvements for New Vegas. Not sure how substantial, but... thepixiesrock Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Yeah so I beat the game and started a new game but it won't let me level up when I gain enough xp. Has anyone else had this problem? I've restarted a few times and it just won't let me get past level one I've even played all the way to Primm. This is really frustrating. Make sure you've left combat. It won't level you up until your sneak status is blue. Haha come on Tale I'm not a complete idiot! It's not because I'm in combat or anything, like I've gone into the game to where I've had at least 2000/200 xp thinking that maybe if I just keep going it will eventually level up. But no it's like a real bug I guess. I googled it and there seems to be a few other people with this problem. Someone mentioned that you have to delete all of your save files and then start a new game or something, but instead of doing that I just signed on to a different xbox username and started a new game and it was fine. But yeah everyone look out (on Xbox at least) when you start a new game because there seems to be a big chance that your character won't level up. I posted this in te other thread but I'm posting it here too because it's a pretty big issue that I had in case anyone else runs into it. I have the Xbox version by the way. Also when I exited Helios One a few times into the area where all the solar pannels are, like a bunch of tin cans and other junk things spawned right outside the door. And then another time a bunch of mole rats and that old lady from the scrapyard spawned there and they all attacked me and she was killed and it ruined any quests she was involved in. Hassat Hunter Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Nvidia files don't seem to fix much. Still got frame-skipping, and while I know of the .dll fix I cannot use it, since the fix for my sound issues has the same .dll file, and I already tried and the fix did once again break my sound. Other suggestions? Bugs I noticed so far (6 hours): * Ballcap with glasses with four eyes only giving +1PER, while I think it should be +2 (unless without that perk it gives -1PER. Does it?) * Several stats like "water consumed" or "books read" (or is that not for temporary +skill mags too?) don't seem to work? * During crafting if you hold the mouse over a requirement the selection noise plays rapidly over and over. Annoying. If the list is big enough to have a scrollbar though it doesn't do this, but then you can no longer select other items to create to see their requirements, or make them... forcing you to exit crafting and re-open. ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. LadyCrimson Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) That nvidia driver update (260 vs. my 258) didn't do anything for me either. In fact it seemed to make it worse (when I removed the .dll fix to test)-crashed three times in about 10 minutes, which wasn't happening w/my previous driver. I realized my inconsistency with the .dll FPS fix was because I kept setting it back to the GTX275 when resetting resolution/other options, instead of leaving it at 7900 setting. Doh. Even with that tho, it runs smoothest if I turn grass-draw & Shadows off & no HDR. Still looks fine just less shiny. Turning off autosaves seems to help too, now that quicksave works. I noticed that as well, along with the random weird gunfire sounds I get. Edited October 27, 2010 by LadyCrimson “Things are as they are. Hassat Hunter Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I give up... unless someone finds a .dll for both the FPS and sound issues, I can't play... NCR Correction Facility shootout 'lag' made that quite clear. It's that there was the semi-exploit of people not going through doors after loading an auto-save, but even that can get you so far... Last bug; * Enemies dropping their guns still have them in their inventory too. Makes it far too easy to repair some of the more frequent guns. ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. Hassat Hunter Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) Stupid reply limitations (someone merger?) You know when you say you do A, and then do B. Yeah... Oddly, while in Primm I often looted verpin (?) rifles and 9mm from the ground and then the body too, here in NCRCF that didn't seem to work. Well, except for Meyer. Also, here, in cell block B, I lockpicked a crate to find ... nothing. Is that supposed to happen from time to time or also a bug? EDIT: Nah, scrap that... I'm done. UnsatisfiedCustomer Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Tech support thread for New Vegas. Give out detailed information on what the problem is, your system, etc. Things like my game is broke or it crashes all of the time isn't going to get you far. Okay, I booted up New Vegas today on PS3 and was happy to see the game got it's first update for the system. The game seems a little bit better now but I still ran into a number of bugs in the 2 hours I played. NPC's still walk into each other and walls alot more often then in Fallout 3. I started a new game and while at the beginning when you run around killing Geckos I saved the one Good Springs villager who was at the water pump and she just stood there and would not say anything to me at all, then later when I ran into her back at Good Springs she acted like I had Just saved her from Geckos at that very moment when I talked to her. Also my characters arms still pop up out of his body for some crazy reason. This update was a good start but please, please, please don't stop patching this game up. If it could be at least no glitchyer then Fallout 3 I will be happy.
LadyCrimson Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 (edited) Not so much FNV related as Steam related: Under a games Properties/Local Files options, what does it mean to "verify integrity of game cache?" Whenever I go into online mode and click it for FNV (my only Steam game....) Steam always finds 1 file that "refuses to validate" and will be "reacquired". This doesn't feel right. Is it always like that/something Steam file related, or is it specific game related? WorstUsernameEver Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Tried the 'ATI awesome perf fix' and it did nothing for me, performance was the same. Must say that the performance has been pretty good for me though, so I can't complain about that.

If it finds a missing/corrupted file it downloads a new one. Why it constantly reacqures that file, I have no idea..
