Recruit or a background?

Recommended Posts

I think i'll do a straight freeagent (was it?) and just run and gun the first time through. Just so i've got an incentive to play it a second as stealthy rookie and third time as whatever suits my taste then. If i'm a lame rookie it'll make sneaking harder :)

I'm just doing it that way because i have little interest in playing it like a shooter and if i don't force me to at least try it i'll never know

Well, I imagine people berating you for your inexperience will be more on the fun side of the scale rather than on the serious.

Joseph Bullock once said there will be fourth wall breaking, but not if it was in Vet or Rec.

My first playthrough will be some sort of stealthy guy. Whether it be Field Agent or Freelancer with a build like WorstUserNameEver, I don't know yet...

I gotta say the tech specialist sounds pretty fun as well. Shotguns and gadgets, hell yeah.

Well technically (just to be a little pedantic), Bourne would be a Soldier with a bunch of Martial Arts added on...

Actually it would be a soldier turned super-spy. You actually can do that in AP, any change in career will also reflect on the conversations.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Film Bourne - Army Officer who gets volunteered into a secret program, and gets trained to blend in and assassinate people.

So soldier type, tough, with martial arts and sneaky stuff added to it...

Book Bourne - Army Officer (with Academic background), who loses his wife and kids, throws himself into a vietnam special operations group.. then volunteers to go undercover to track down another assassin because he has nothing to live for..

Soldier type with some martial arts, sneaky and a touch more technical..

(And yes dammit, I wanted to see either The Jackal or Medusa turn up in the films at some point..)

The veteran stuff has what will feel more like the director's cut sort of stuff, the goofier stuff, and the VO that was just too distracting or over the top for the first experience. The recruit will mainly funny things where they make fun of you for being a total noob.

I'd recommend doing a play through on a "standard" background, then recruit, than veteran, not because of the dialog choices, but because with three playthroughs, you will see a decent chunk of the branching content. Not nearly all of it, but with three playthroughs, you'll see just how big of a game you have with AP.

One other question, (directed towards you or one of the other devs), do the characters comment on your background if you pick one of the standard ones? like if I picked freelance would I hear different lines then my buddy who is picking soldier

They do. It was confirmed some months back.

IMO start with a "normal" background so the goofy stuff doesn't mess up the atmosphere the first time.

Zkylon: Freelancer. :)

That's it! I'm probably gonna pick Freelancer all three times unless the other backgrounds have some influence ala Mass Effect. If not, i just feel better allocating points myself.
