bhlaab
Played up to the Peru level. Terrible TERRIBLE. quote from another forum that sums it up so i dont have to It's formulaic with ****ty level design; the sort that encourages enemy AI bull****tery rather than avoids it. Overall it feels pretty much identical to CoD4, right down to the end bit of the game sharing the same theme. Enemies spawning unlimitedly has been replaced by there just being ****ing loads of enemies in every encounter for no reason. Yeah, that's an improvement. Enemy AI is almost as bad as CoD4's, though now they give you a millisecond of time (not enough to fire first, naturally) before they fire super-accurate hipfire bursts at you, and once again their aim isn't disrupted from being shot while you sperge around like a ****ing imbecile if you're as much as shot in the toe from fifty kilometres away by a glock. And they've taken out leaning. Which makes it super fun to see the AI lean around corners constantly. Edited November 12, 2009 by bhlaab
GreasyDogMeat
As opposed to "Hang on their soldier, I'll touch you with a few of these magical kits and you'll never know the difference Neither are particularly grounded in realism At least with the med kit system there is a consequence to being shot. The introduction of the regen health system was more than just a health system change. It changed how enemies behaved. Instead of the realistic battle fields where enemies would shoot at your AI team mates and actually miss you from time to time, their focus turned to you and their accuracy increased because the enemy AI was now required to pump more lead into you. Suddenly, instead of feeling like I was part of a large scale battle, I felt like I was some sort of super construct on the battlefield and the enemy soldiers knew it. Fine in futuristic Halo where you ARE a super soldier, not so much in a military shooter. Again, I prefer the middle ground where the game does give you regen, but your health is split into beads where if one bead is completely drained you need medical attention where minor damage to that health bead will regen after a time. Best of both worlds.

I don't mind health regen for "realism" purposes, but I hate that it's an excuse to have three million guys assault you at once by more or less running at you in a straight line or out and out cheating by doing moves you can't (like leaning from behind cover or blind firing through open doors or hopping across rooftops and climbing up walls) The single player is a mess. WILL THE ALMIGHTY
Weird, because I (and it seems most people) loved CoD4's SP and love MW2's campaign. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Wrath of Dagon
Health regen works pretty well in Wolfenstein. They just give you less health to compensate. For example, there is literally a gunner in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault that is looking at you, and only you during the D-Day landings. You wait behind cover for 2 seconds, he stops firing, you quickly run to the next cover and within a second, he starts shooting at you again. You can even see where those shots are coming from. They always come from the same spot. I have always felt like the focus of the WW2 FPS games, both from a friendly AI and an enemy AI standpoint. MoH was a lone man game. The most help you got was 3 AI soldiers (not counting the HEAVILY scripted D-Day landing). Obviously the focus was on the player. That is why CoD 1 was so fresh. It really dropped you onto a battlefield that MoH only gave a scripted taste of. The health system was not something I obsessed over. I didn't like it of course, but I immediately noticed that in 2 you are suddenly a much bigger target to the enemy. CoD 1 had this problem in spots, like Pavlov's House where the Germans just bee-lined up the building to you, but CoD 2 felt like the entire game had become Pavlov's House. When it comes to health systems in FPS, I don't really care either way. I like some more than others, but ultimately it's not a big enough issue to get my knickers in a knot. I think it's amusing that people make up stories to explain how horrible and unrealistic regen is when they're both pretty silly if you put too much thought into them.
