What are you playing now?

Money does come into play here Gorth. I'm tryin to save for Assassins Creed 2 and COD:MW2

I see :)

Anyway, I think you were right, France wasn't really a unified country until way after the 100 year war (approx 1453). I've never played Empire TW, so I don't know what time period it covers.

Empire is 18th century I think. The Americas are there and they can break off from the Brits if they're feelin sassy.

France should be very powerful and rich, yes. I think the issue is just how easily you can destroy France. 2 provinces would have been nice.

Back on the EU3 wagon as I ponder the purchase or demo of Risen. Thought what the AAR guy in paradox forums did was interesting, playing Scotland, using the short distance to try and be the first to colonise North America. I'm trying to get the coastline and eventually make sure I own roughly all of US and Mexico in the end, but colonial maintenance and distance are killers and it's taking me something like 5-6 years per province. It's the 1470's now and Portugal's finally coming round...

Meanwhile, the British Isles got pretty interesting after a few early wars; Connaght & Tyrone in Ireland, Wales / Northumberland / Cornwall all independent and eating into English territory. After a few more wars, they're now all my vassals sans Wales, and England's pretty much in a perpetual cycle of -3 stab and ridiculously large rebel armies.

I'm currently playing the crap out of Risen. It's so good there should be laws against this kind of fun. It's indecent!

Easily the best game of the year for me. So far (25 hours in).

I'm also playing Risen, I wouldn't go as far as mkreku, and say it's my best game of the year so far, but it's certainly fun enough.

Harbour town was certainly interesting, and while the voice acting is average, the actual written dialogue is atleast compelling enough to keep me interested. you get a real sense of living world with Risen, and the NPC's all seem fairly opinionated.

I've also been playing COD:MW and COD:WaW. It's shocking how little these guys change their low level concept formula, all the COD games play the same, it's all a matter of "shoot the right guy and push forwards".

And finally Dead Rising, can you say "broken" because Dead Rising is a fine example of "broken".

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

Rome Total War, atm. I didn't have much experience with non-Roman factions outside quick battles, so I gave Macedon a go. Wow, those phalanxes really are meat grinders. Macedonian light cavalry is pretty crazy too.

Doing fine, even though pretty much every neighboring nation DOWed on me - I now understand why AI Macedon is usually the first to bite the dust. Not really a problem since the mainland Greek cities (and Rhodes!) are literally a money factory and this allows me to fund a huge navy to choke their economies. I wish the diplomatic aspect of the game had a bit more weight, however.

In short, I'm having a blast. I'll probably try the Seleucids or Parthia for my next game.

How is Medieval/Empire compared to Rome? And I still haven't touched BI. :)

ETW is 1700s.

I actually don't have a problem with it being one (very powerful and rich) province.

Hey man, how playable is HOI3 yet?

- When he is best, he is a little worse than a man, and when he is worst, he is little better than a beast.

I didn't really find BI that interesting.. mostly 2 huge factions against hordes of barbarians, it's too easy which ever faction you choose.

Medieval II/Kingdom is an interesting game, imo is better than Rome in most aspects, but all in all it's quite similar. There's a good deal of great mods for MTW2 though, I especially recommend the Grand Campaign. Which adds all the features and factions from the Kingdoms expansion into the vanilla campaign.

The biggest thing I noticed with MTW2 was that the number of units can be mind boggling.

i just played dead rising and i'm not sure what you mean by this. i thought broken referred to multiplayer stuff when one option was clearly superior to another option to the point of being "broken". or if a mechanic could be exploited to the point of broken-ness.

i didnt notice anything like that in dead rising. i DID notice how awful it was trying to escort 8 survivors at once through the park with those goddamn convicts driving around... bastards.

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

Yes it's fairly easy to have a battle with 8,000-10,000 troops on the ultra setting. But I still can't wait for the TW series to bring me those truly epic battles with 40,000+ units.

I think the term broken is being used here to refer to the difficulty curve being like running into a brick wall.

I was referring more to the number of unit types than anything else.

Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

Terrible, terrible game. The level design is just plain awful. But hey, it's old, so I guess it gets some points for that.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

If the level designer was cleaner that'd have been the best game that lucas arts has produced in the last 10 years.

Those that know, know.

Those that do not know.... will know soon enough :ninja:

(AAR = After Action Report .... Basically a play-by-play recount of what you've done in the game...often used by geeks talking about a war game)

(WITP AE = War in the Pacific - Admiral Edition .... A game about the Pacific War in WW2)

Aar...! the sound a general makes when outsmarted by the AI

WITP AE... What in the Pantheon of All Evil. Acknowledging the fact that you need to reload to avoid "Aar!"

:p

Getting close to finishing my current game of EUIII. Stupid colonies are getting restless. Time for Byzantine Interior Ministry troops to march all over those silly "Founding Fathers" :ninja:
