Tale
Or could, if PSPs weren't a steaming pile of Llyranor. PSPs are great! Aside from the homebrew potential, which can and has been harnessed for SNES games, it has an actually very decent library with quality games from Katamari to Metal Gear Solid to Silent Hill and ports of the immensely popular Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea with new content as well as original titles like Jeanne D'Arc. Xard
Personally, I only game on the PC and do not own any consoles nor do I have any plans whatsoever to buy any of them. If there's too option you can't actually prefer each one of them. The option is there for those who prefer both equally: i.e. those who have no preference between the two. Then it should've been "no preference" How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)

Homebrew is awsome (though doesn't sony keep trying to stamp on that?), but it's the thing itself that i'm not fond of, in the same way that I didn't like the Game Gear. Bulky and short battery life, while a DS slim (that I don't own yet ) can fit in my pocket and last me a trip to Canturbury. Some interesting games, but nothing that I wouldn't either ignore anyway, or take the DS or home console equivilent of. Ports arn't enough to stop me reading a book. Hurlshort
The problem with the PSP is it tries to be a miniature console instead of focusing on the fact it's a handheld. DS games are designed for a handheld experience, they aren't hindered by a tiny screen and they are usually creative, quick diversions. PSP ports just make me want to go home and play an actual console. Plus, UMD's were overpriced and now they are a dead media.
Tale
UMDs are actually cheaper to produce than the DS equivalent cards, massively cheaper. The screen is significantly larger than a DS. And if you think some design philosophy of Sony towards making it a console keeps developers from developing for it like it's a handheld, I can't imagine you've played many games on it or the DS. PSP titles like Portable Ops actually only require brief playtimes, while other DS games like the first party Phantom Hourglass require commitments. Examples can be found both ways, so that claim is just invalid. Though, with Nintendogs being the highest selling DS titles (and not to be scoffed at, I know people who love it), perhaps I should give that claim more merit. As for UMDs being a "dead media," I can't argue with that, but fail to see how it has any bearing on it. It's not a dead media for the uses that apply to the PSP. It's only real failing is that it's simply not as succseful as the Nintendo DS. Which isn't an actual failing. Success the DS is assured because Pokemon and backwards Advance compatability. Hurlshort
I'm not claiming that UMD's are better or worse than DS cartridges, I was really just talking about the price point for UMD movies. It was $20 for a movie, and there was no way to play that movie on my TV (although I hear that's possible now.) I also realize that the PSP has come a long way, but I owned it for the first year and it was basically a paper weight. There just weren't any games that appealed to me. The DS came onto the market ready to play with a strong stable of games and the ability to put in GBA games. I was very excited about the PSP, but it just seems like they failed on the movie front and took too long on the games front. Where are the Phoenix Wright's and Brain Age games for the PSP? Those are the unique titles I turn to a handheld for, and Sony didn't deliver them.

Gorth
Emulators are your freind... So they are Lets see, I've got a c64 emulator, an Amiga emulator, a Glide (old 3dfx driver) emulator, Dosbox, a BBC model B emulator, a ZX Spectrum 48k emulator, I even think I saw some console emulators on the net a while back that I for a short time considered getting, but truth be told, I haven't found a console exclusive game yet that I wanted it badly enough. It doesn't automatically mean that I won't ever get one, but so far, I don't see the need for one, real or emulator. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. My computer is so horribly that it can't run console emulators for anything newer than the SNES and even some of those are iffy. The controls in Axelay aren't quite as smooth as they were on my SNES before the game stopped loading.
Sand
I would gladly pay for a XBox 360 emulator. Microsoft should make a X Box360 PCI slot card that allows PCs to run XBox 360 games. Guest The Architect
I prefer stalking over playing games. It's free and at least you're not sitting down all the time. I use my laptop generally for TAFE and pornographic purposes, but not for games. I'm a console man when it comes to games, but then again I haven't touched the thing in ages, though that'll change come the holidays. I'll be after TMNT, FIFA '08, Assassins Creed and GTA IV {when's that coming out anyway?}. Of course, both a PC and a console are great things to have. The saying that consoles suck should never exist.

Krookie
A PC can be just as much a toy as a console. It all depends on how you use it. PC gamers always seem to think it's more mature to be playing video games on a PC, rather than on a console. Maybe you guys just thinks it looks better, when you're 30+ and you don't want to have your girlfriend saying "Oh, is that a Nintendo? My little brother has one of those!" Instead you can just say, "This is just my computer!" I've got nothing agaisnt PC gaming, I have a few games (that my PC can manage) but overall consoles are easier for me. Plus, my 360 doesn't get viruses. Edited November 15, 2007 by Krookie
