On Darker than Black, I've stopped watching and haven't caught up yet, so I guess I agree with theslug, though I feel he's a little bit on the harsh side. Yoko Kanno's music *is* good, but yeah, its a typical action sci-fi 'we're-so-cool' anime. I have a strange aversion to all types of fighting in anime anyway - they bore me incredibly.

On the other hand, I'm reading BECK the manga. It's pretty damn famous, but just in case - it's a story of a rock band and its members. Half of them speak English half the time though, and its a little bit old with a typical art style, and I don't really enjoy the music itself in the anime (as opposed to Nodame Cantabile which had some nice classical treatments) - so, reading the manga. It's pretty fun, if formulaic.

Also getting myself Monster in manga, being in NZ i have a 20gb bandwidth cap each month so I prefer manga when I can get them. Actually, I just like pacing myself as well.

Darker then black is easily one of the most sluggish animes I've ever seen. It just feels like they don't really know where to go with it. There seems to be no tie-ins between the story arcs and no main story whatsoever besides Hei's search for her sister. And even that hasn't had a plot point for a while.

It's a fine anime, but it seems to fall flat lately.

Now, Seirei no moribito on the other hand...

I hate how Death Note ended. I just want to say that. I hate it.

It wasn't even Light's fault. It was that once screwup he had taking over for him. But Light still had to gloat at the last second giving it away further. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GLOAT?! He might have been able to play it off otherwise.

Death Note needed to end after the first arc, as the 'evil guy wins'. That, or the writer needed to take a break so that the second arc wasn't so crap. It was really hollow, and whereas there was a tension and believability in the first arc, the second just felt childish and made-up... starting from the stupid premise of the orphanage. The orphanage is nonsense, and the curly-hair kid is a deus ex machina all in one, Guy That Knows Everything.

I held out for the one thing I knew was coming - the final showdown that would show fragility of Yagami Light and his empire, and his despair in those final moments - but even that was cliche and quickly passed over.

Light

Manipulating a Shinigami into murder-suicide

really was the high point of the series. I always disagreed they should have ended it there, but thinking about it, I have to change my mind. They couldn't have topped it.

Yeah, the series should have been done with

Ruyzaki's

death. Granted, I was pretty hyped for the new tankobons, but I never finished them because the villains were stupid. Mello(the chocolat-eater) had potential, but ultimately fell flat and ended up just being psychotic normal villain.

Wait, the latest arc of Darker... had Finns.

Now that's something you don't see every day.

Hei has a Finnish Doll. :)

Also: Death Note parody. It seems like someone else didn't like the adaptation either.

Finland and finnish stuff are actually scarily common in anime.

Dude yeah right seirei no moribito suffers from the same thing as darker than black. It looks absolutely beautiful but there is absolutely nothing going on plot wise. I want to see some people get murdered and the spirit side of the story actually manifest itself.

Edit: Just finished watching Death note and I'm pretty dissapointed in the end. Like others have said I agree it could of ended with the L arc but they decided to take it further which I'm not sure was the best idea. After the L arc I was kind of turned off and while things were definitely insano it just didn't have that feel. Plus you weren't really given the time to appreciate the new characters that were introduced. It kind of seemed rushed. Still a good show regardless.

There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.

Well since I can't edit my last post again. For the end I would of liked

dialog between ryuk and Light. maybe explaining why he did everything he did and what dieing alone is like and stupid crap like that. I mean the ending was just so emotionally detached I was like wtf dawg? I like how ryuk followed through on putting lights name in his book but i mean that was about it. Dieing on the stairs of a freakin warehouse? I mean come on. Just totally unprofessional ending in my opinion, but what the hell can you expect from anime it's not like this is something new.

I actually meant that Seirei no Moribito is the exact opposite. It's episodes are nought but a coherent narrative string, no fillers whatsoever. Just an ongoing story.

I'd like to know what you have actually watched, because "absolutely nothing going on plotwise" is a really odd statement, considering there's been hardly any breaks in the story. Even if the party stops, there's always Imperial plots and such going on the background, never a dull moment. Just wondering here...

I actually was talking about the manga version, since I only ever saw that. If the anime is worse than that, then God.

Personally, I thought the big high of the series was

the killing of Raye Fenber's girlfriend - the whole walk in the park trick. Very impromptu, very nice, and achieved not only through scheming but also through his 'person' skills, social skills. I didn't really like the idea of the second Kira.

I love the very end of that part where he's like "I'm Kira." Don't know what it was but that scene was just so freakin sweet.

Yup, agreed. The seven first episodes of Death Note easily classifies as one of the best ever in any anime.

I just watched Steamboy. Makes me want more Steampunk stuff. Watched the dub, which was surprisingly good. Alfred Molina was excellent, and Patrick Stewart really tried to cover up that it was him and ended up with a really neat voice. Also, the score was fantastic. I just might have to buy it.

Episode 24 and 25 of code geass have been released. Probably going to watch 22 - 23 to get a gauge of where the show left off and jog my memory. It was a great show so I'm hoping the months they took to put this together really pay off.

Well after finishing Noir, I watched Madlax. That was pretty good. And now I'm eagerly watching El Cazador De La Bruja episode by episode as I can get them. This seems to be my favourite style... Currently trying to get Blood+, Elfen Lied and Cowboy Bebop.

metal skin panic: Madox-o1 (one shot 30 - 45 min. good watch, has nothing to do with "fullmetal panic")

full metal panic (the first one, there is a semi sequel called "the second raid" do not watch this unless you are in to **** animation and incestuous under age lesbians sisters muff diving each other in the shower,) (and no you pervs, it is not a "detailed" scene.)

ninja scroll (old, over used, but you haven't seen, do so)

macross-plus (this is what started bebop)

planets (low impact, comedy/drama, all story, no kid ****ing.)

Mobile fighter: gundam

gundam: war in the pocket

gundam: the 8th MS team

gundam: 0083 (if you have no idea what gundam is about start with 0083 and then go backward. avoid gundam: seed, like the plague.) (p.s. watch 'em in English, i hate dub, but gundam in Japanese is like nails on a chalk board.)

orguss 02 (it's a shame that no one finished translating the TV series.)

macross (robotech if you can't find the un-mutilated version)

giant robo (old skool character art may set some off from this, but the art and animation are second to none. there is never a point where crappy static images are "slid" across the screen.)

robot circus (if you are bored and feel like watching a collection of short stories. more conceptual design work than plot driven. i think only 2 out of about 10 shorts have a voice over.)

iria: zeiram the animation (watch the live action movie "zeiram" first, "iria" was done afterwords anyway.)

Akira (do not watch the re-release version of this. go find a old "orion" dubbed version. you will understand if you do.)

Venus wars (feel free to giggle and snort, i know what the name rimes with.) (super good show.)

jin-ro: the wolf brigade (never saw the live action stuff, well i saw it on the shelf but i couldn't find it when i came back.)

there is also one out there called summer...something... er i dint know, i cant remember the title. it was a romantic/comedy/drama where a Tokyo high-school-Senior-going-on-to-collage gets sucked into the future where the future (post-collage) version of himself has gone missing in kosovo, (the older version is a war journalist). he gets mixed up with two women that he had a relation ship with in high school. kind of sappy but i want to show it to my wife, does this jar anyone's memory. if so drop me a line.

I watched an episode of Bleach today and all I could think about was how awful the animation was. Seriously, every animator on that show needs to be fired.

eh, depends on the episode, it seems like they have several rotating animation teams, of course the fact that theres an arc entirly made for filler is... unique.
