I think we've seen enough magical mystery fantasy games. Id prefer sci-fi, wasteland-ism or preferably something completely new and untried like a modern age RPG with without vampires, aliens or silly stuff.

 

Amen to that. While I might be satisfied with another fantasy RPG, I'd be thrilled to see something sci-fi/wasteland or completely new.

 

EDIT: And I mean satisfied as in "satisfying my hunger for RPGs while I wait for something REAL to happen".

magic in games is just technology in disguise..(or is it the other way around)

 

I meant more in terms of like in Fallout where the characters didn't have magical powers per se, and combat relied on firearms or melee weapons exclusively. Whereas how BG has mages and spells, and KOTOR has Jedi and the Force, I want a game where there are no spells or no Force powers.

 

A party-based IE-like game set in a medieval world, bloodfeuds, poison and intrigues. A darker game, no elf-chicks with bouncing t*ts or heroic barbarians with oiled pecs. Preferably a fantasy world (I don't like real-world settings) and a story written by real authors (a story w/o the traditional save_the_princess clichees). Maybe inspired by norse/ Icelandic sagas (ever seen Revenge of the Barbarians) An awesome movie. :lol:

 

An if there is magic, it should be way more subtle. No glowing shields or fireballs.. Visions maybe, curses, hexes.. dark rituals, or maybe healing and silent prayers.

Yeah, a medieval RPG could be fun. And if you really needed "magic", it could be like herbalism or something. It'd be more interesting if (as in our real medievals) people believed in elves and magic... so while the characters take them for granted, they don't actually excist.

If you don't like real world medieval stuff, the game could always take the Guy Gavriel Kay route. A game with poison and intruige sort of thing, as you said.

 

Eh, I keep thinking of Garret now.

I was tired last night, maybe my descriptions were't the best, but [edited out for TOS purposes]. "Asbestos suit" wasn't my best choice of wording ever, but in a world full of fireball tossing mages and dragons lumbering around, fire-retardant materials would be a priority invention. Lasers, phasers, plasters, particle beams, hell, it can be just bullets. What the hell is wrong with taking traditional fantasty elements like elves and orcs and dragons and magic and sticking them in a post-apocalyptic setting?

Is there really any need for you to be an ass?

Ah. So it's been done. I'm not a big gamer so I've never heard of that game. Is it any good?

Ah. So it's been done. I'm not a big gamer so I've never heard of that game. Is it any good?

Good question. I've never played the PnP version (called "Inquisitor") and to the best of my knowledge, there was never a crpg game released based on it.

 

It started life as a fatasy tabletop wargame and eventually evolved into large scale combat systems, skirmish combat systems and eventually into PnP roleplaying systems.

 

Somewhere early in it's history, a "split off" system was created, taking place in the 40th millennia (as in 38 thousand years from now). It's a universe with crude but omipresent Orks, High tech, but doomed and dying Eldar, Humans, etc. Many things you would recognise from fantasy.

 

So it started life as a miniature tactical combat game, but both the fantasy and the sci-fi versions are interesting, dark and sinister universes.

Of course. After all, the native Americans survived their apaocalypsed caused by the Christian expansion. I like Volourn's idea of The Stand style PA game. It could still have the RE moments in it as well. Instead of having the player start after the event, lets be able to play through it and somehow our character survives, if the player isn't stupid.

Smells more like Shadowrun put through a blender.

 

Speaking of which, Microsoft could use a prod in behind to finally do something with the license they've been sitting on...

Anyone think Obsidian has scraped together enough cash to license the Unreal 3 engine for the graphics..? I want a RPG in a world as seen in GTA: San Andreas: huuuge, no loading times, detailed and pretty.

 

Damn, it's really getting my imagination going, not knowing what they're up to! Let's hope they surprise us this time, with something totally unexpected. Something without magic, elves and swords. Original. Ground-breaking. Unique.

Yeah, I trust that obsidian has now enough experience to fully implement any kind of 3d engine with roleplaying qualities.
