LadyCrimson Posted March 15 Posted March 15 "War" campaign assignment 10. One of my fave campaign maps, because large but not especially tough enemy army sizes, center lake, native-land to deal with (they buy your goods too, bonus), and various other fun stuff. Long ago I learned you could simply wall in map wolves (top center) and I've done so ever since, so I wouldn't have to build an army of prefectures (police/firefighters essentially) in the first months (or ever) to deal with them. Cheese tactics ftw. Gatehouses as walker roadblocks and one house shanty shack by wall towers to provide "employment" access, included. Ballista towers are/were op'd. The maps I found most difficult - or at least annoying - were the desert ones because fire risk was dramatic and a lot of your work force was soaked up with prefectures. >.> I may still be "too familiar" with the game overall but I'll say one thing about city-builders - if you like the genre, ofc - if you want to kill tons of time, getting absorbed in designing/planning can sure make you not realize how much time has passed. Altho the Julius/Augustus mods have a MUCH faster speed multipliers (up to 400% vs. 90-100% I think?) so that's helped re: any waiting periods. Anyway, still a great game, even without all the QoL of modern ones. 1 “Things are as they are. Hawke64 Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Death of a Wish Steelrising The lowest settings which somehow still required 6GB VRAM. The depth of field and some other settings could not be disabled completely. The hat-hiding toggle kept resetting. The weird mix of English with some French words added was rather unpleasant to see. It should have been either consistently English only or French VA with subtitles. The French is not present at all, by the way, while the proper nouns vary in spelling (e.g. a chateau, an estate, or a p(a)lace when referring to the same location). Saints Row The LARP quest line. Spoiler 2

Hawke64 Posted March 16 Posted March 16 2 hours ago, HoonDing said: Is the new Saints Row cell-shaded? It's a visual accessibility option + the Retro filter. The trailers show that the game would look different without them - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAvdbvX79H4. I suppose, if there was a dedicated cell-shading option, like in Prince of Persia 2008 reboot, I would have preferred it. 1

LadyCrimson Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Of interest to probably no one but myself: I've been messing about in Casear4's largest "freebuild" map, Roma. C4's mechanics are quite different from C3, and I don't recall C4's nearly as well. So it's taking a while to remember how to be efficient with housing and service blocks vs. terrain. After a few tries over a couple days I had a nice result of 6k population, nothing special, but I thought the layouts worked well/could apply to other maps. Then I curiously looked up an old save file of Roma from 2012 and looked at it. My brain deflated and went "oh, yeah, like that..." I now have a vague memory of doing this - may have even posted here, dunno - but it was an attempt at getting the "highest" supportable population one could get on Roma-map w/resources and all the trade ships available (vs. "pretty"). Which is why at the top of first picture is a zillion gatehouses taking up that whole land area, to suck up excess workers. The point all being, is that totally forgot about and I have no idea how I came up with/managed all that. It must have taken a lot of planning/nerd-ing and my current befuddling brain can't conceive of it. It's just a weird sensation. Also ... 50K+ population plus all those buildings - C4 may not be 2d like C3, but like I said in another thread already, try getting that in newer/current city builders without dropping to 5fps. 2 “Things are as they are. Hawke64 Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Saints Row The team building is going well. Got a new hat. Death of a Wish The game is unintentionally funny. And there is a cool garden. 4
Keyrock Posted March 24 Posted March 24 (edited) This was my most heroic act yet. I climbed up the back of this ogre when it suddenly leapt away, mother****er jumped like 50 yards and clung onto a cliff wall. In the picture above I'm desperately holding on with one hand and stabbing him with the other while he's on the side of a cliff. This game is intense. Hawke64 Posted March 31 Posted March 31 (edited) Saints Row Sergio defeated. The context of the battle was fine, though I would not mind to have 2-3 missions dedicated to Los Panteros' lore. Spoiler The Necromancer contract. And so the party decided to rescue this work of art. The nature in the game is beautiful. Unlocked the VTOL, which made the Threat side missions significantly easier. The aircraft was unlocked from the start in the previous SR. There was a hover craft and I discovered it only post-game. Randomly found several good cars and saved in the garage. The ones available by default were somehow harder to drive. These are loading screens with, I assume, the max settings. As I understand, the house was added in a free DLC. Probably the longest side mission chain I did not finish. Late-game spoilers (Marshall). Spoiler So, the party took a family business from an old man. The only choice in the game. I do not think that there are any consequences. The restored HQ. Spoiler Mixed feelings about the beanie and the hair colour, but looks nice. Was trying to recreate the mural in the character creator, though did not have the right clothes (or the desire to modify each facial slider much). So, not quite, but close. Messed up the eye brows. The final mission(s). Spoiler The final missions were about the personal connection, trust, and support the MC and the party shared, and that this was irreplaceable. This is one of the best lines and it expressed exactly what I always wanted to say. I am quite certain that the boss is not recognisable from this distance. The red outline, by the way, revealed the plot twist several seconds before it happened. Edited March 31 by Hawke64 4
melkathi Posted March 31 Posted March 31 From what I understand, you also missed the best gun in the game: the pinata launcher. 1 Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).
LadyCrimson Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Patron was never a graphic showcase, especially if you do the photomode zoom in close up views/textures, ew. But it has improved visually a bit, I think animations and some added details. Although, straight-down to try and show a whole huge area just looks like every other grid-based Banished clone. Tons of houses. >.> Apparently it takes a lot to "feed, clothe, and luxuriate" ... 300 adults/youth/children - with some excess to sell. There's more farms not in pic. When I zoomed into a town one winter, I noticed someone built a snowman. Some Xmas trees around here and there too, heh. 4 “Things are as they are.
