BruceVC Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I was watching some polling data on Smerconish for the 2024 US elections and 65% of people polled think Biden winning would be an absolute disaster for the US and 56% think the same about Trump Has there ever been a US election with the current candidates being so unpopular? Personally Im disappointed that the Dems cant come up with an alternative to Biden but thats mostly because of his age, I dont think he has done such a bad job considering global factors like the virus and the war in Ukraine that has influenced certain realities, like inflation, in the US. I would definitely prefer Biden again to Trump "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. Because of all the hoohah, I have tried listening to some Joe Rogan. He is entertaining enough when he's got someone like David Lee Roth on, although that's mainly because it's David Lee Roth, but when he gets an actual scientist or a proper professional in there, he just isn't educated enough to even ask good questions or do any follow-up on them, and it gets mightily uncomfortable trying to listen to that[*]. I suppose his popularity stems from that he's a bit more educated than much of his audience, he's a good enough talker (i.e. is able to construct reasonable and easy-to-follow sentences for extended periods of time) and he has critical mass on his side, which means that he's getting more popular by virtue of the fact that he's already popular. So yeah, the signal-to-noise ratio can be awful, especially if you have better things to do. [*] Although even with David Lee Roth it was quite uncomfortable to hear them talk about DLR learning Japanese. Rogan clearly cannot properly understand the concept of being able to speak a second language, which is quite something. D'oh. Edited June 19, 2023 by xzar_monty

But on other topics, meh indeed. @ShadySands: The problem with Rogan having someone like Michio Kaku on his show is that he's unable to ask good and relevant questions and often also has great difficulty understanding what his guest is telling him. And that gets mightily embarrasing at times. I mean, the one time I listened to a whole episode was when he had the physicist Brian Greene on, and it was mostly a waste of time, for reasons just described. Simply listening to a lecture given by Greene would have been much more enlightening. A learned friend of mine talked of the same embarrassing problem happening when Rogan had Brian Cox on the show, although I didn't bother to check that one out.

For me, risqué would imply at least a bit of style, and naughty would imply at least a bit of humour, and because Stern has neither, he's simply smutty. And yes, crude, in the way he tackles the questions he deals with (i.e. he's not only smutty, but in the other things he does, he's crude). Perhaps because I'm a European, I have never been able to understand why Stern is even able to have a job (on the radio), much less be successful. Oh well. Hunter is a screw up but he's not part of the administration. agree. from a post Gromnir on april fools, 2022 when @Darkpriest did same as key: hunter biden is relevant... again? why? is a serious question. for years now hunter has been a known train wreck. the reason why the laptop weren't a real story is not so much 'cause o' the russian disinformation angle but 'cause o' same reasons it weren't a story october 2020-- the fbi and bill barr had been in possession o' the "laptop from hell" since november 2019 and nothing came o' it. the worst laptop photos and emails from the laptop were already leaked a long time past and we discovered *gasp* that hunter biden has bad selfie discipline and had involved himself in all kinda get-rich-quick schemes with foreign business entities. thank goodness nobody were electing hunter. if joe biden had given hunter top security clearance and made him part o' the day-to-day operations o' the wh, then there would be a story, or at least you would think so. never happened. know what also never happened? the trump doj under barr never found anything on hunter other than possible tax evasion, for which hunter is still being investigated and should not be getting off the hook. you think the trump administration woulda' looked the other way if there were anything else? pre 2020 election some folks in the media were too quick to dismiss a story 'bout hunter biden as complete fake. the thing is, "fake" weren't the problem. the fail o' the story is same now as then 'cause the october surprise is still not particular relevant save for the recognition that hunter is a mess. am no more surprised by that revelations in 2022 than we were in 2020. and from three years past and is others who here didn't know hunter were a trainwreck? has anybody been claiming the tax and gun stuff were manufactured? and just as with the stoopid hunter painting sale, such issues were known to everybody so is not as if the info were blackmail material which could be used as leverage against joe biden. but already we got at least one poster trying to move the goal posts? is a half dozen times when Gromnir said exact same things, pointing out that unless there were some evidence o' a grand conspiracy linking the ukrainians or chinese to The Big Guy, which seemed increasing unlikely after bill barr and the trump admin couldn't find nothing, as well as multiple years o' silence from any relevant or reputable justice source since the laptop were first discovered, then the hunter story is no more significant today then it were when Gromnir mentioned in 2020 or 2021 or 2022. nevertheless, 'cause the result is indeed as insignificant as we prognosticated, such is proof o'... what exactly? so, for the people who is sudden outraged at the hunter story, show us the receipts. go back the past few years and reveal how you were always enraged 'bout tax evasion and an illegal weapon possession. show how when Gromnir brushed off the story as relative insignificant, you stood up for the rule of law and pointed out how vital to the national interest were the story o' hunter's tax evasion. funny, but this were only a story just so long as no charges were brought. one could say that hunter were getting away with something 'cause he were the son o' the President. is no longer possible to argue the two-tiered justice angle. hunter charges will be big news for conspiracy nutters and the breitbart fans, but in a few days they will go back to asking 'bout burisma and The Big Guy email precise 'cause this story were nothing... and exact the same nothing as in 2020, 2021, 2022. so it goes HA! Good Fun! ps as usual, the significant part o' the story is not being covered. hunter, according to his lawyers, is no longer the subject o' an ongoing criminal investigation. means hunter and the doj may be called before Congress to discuss... whatever. IF investigation is complete over, that is kinda bad news for the gop diehards who has been trying to prop up the zombie burisma issue for a few years. 'course is gonna be a circus when doj and hunter is subpoenaed by the weaponization committee *snort* to testify. Zoraptor Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 Eh, the Hunter Biden thing is a bit chicken and egg. There was very clearly an orchestrated effort to suppress anything and everything about Hunter B's laptop in the run up to the last election, which would not have happened if he were Hunter Smith- and definitively wouldn't have happened if it were Donald T jr's. It seems extremely unlikely that there was no input on that from the Democrats/ Biden campaign and it was a wholly spontaneous and apolitical reaction to protect the poor benighted masses against 'fake news'... but at the same time, if he were Hunter Smith people wouldn't have been interested in his laptop anyway, so there would have been no kerfuffle to suppress. So it very much depends on which side you look at. (Anything Hunter did wrong is his responsibility though, it only becomes Biden sr's if he tried to protect him via illegal means. Which seems fundamentally unlikely, and even less likely that it could be proven even if he had. Some... reaction against people who actually thought Hunter's conduct was fine and everything about him was fake news is to be expected, but I can't recall anyone here acting like that. There were rather a lot elsewhere though)
