For male Russian singers, nothing beats Vladimir Vysotsky

Spoiler

He looks a little like the bad guy from No Country for Old Men

PS according to my wife the best is Viktor Tsoi but that's obviously false but I'm not a Kino fan

No specific individuals, but I sometimes listen to the old Alexandrov Ensemble (RIP). Formerly known as the Red Army Choir. They were an excellent group of male Russian singers. Sadly the original ensemble met an unfortunate end in a plane crash in 2016 (before falling out of windows became the latest Russian fashion)

Vysotsky was what old people listened to, and I never understood hype around Kino, Nautilus Pompilius from that scene was so much better IMO. Aaaaanyway, here is my favorite Russian-singing male, who is actually Ukrainian with Roma roots.

The best Russian music was posted by @Chilloutman in the joke thread a while back.

They even have English subtitles. Ah, my Putin... what a glorious composition. Didn't age so well though, in light of last year's events.

Edit: Clearly, the best male Russian singer is a German pretending to be Russian:

same response as in 2020

it is curious that russian vocalists is expected to sound as if they is physical suffering while performing.

am recalling @Gorth shared a mongolian artist who also channeled his pain

aside: don't tell @ShadySandswife, but we listened to viktor tsoi 'bout a decade or so past and we didn't feel as if we wanted to hear more. gruppa krovi album? the music reminded us o' blondie from the early eighties, though with maybe less punk influence. not terrible but viktor is no debbie harry.

HA! Good Fun!

I subject my neighbours' Bluetooth speaker to Хочу перемен every now and then.

Before the war special military operation in Ukraine, when doing concerts in Russia was still a cool thing to do...

A slightly older Rammstein piece. As usual, the band never gives any "official" interpretation of their songs, but there seems to be a fan consensus, that it's about the building of the Berlin wall (Rammstein are from the former DDR). It has English subtitles if clicking the subtitle button

Something close to an 80's "Cold War Anthem'... a bit of German pop music. She modified the ending a bit here, as against all odds, the world didn't go out in the expected global firestorm (followed by a few centuries of nuclear winter)

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

This one has English subtitles (if selected on the video)...
