They offer a literally free service, and I use it. For free. As intended. Their hoping to rope me in for subscription with their free service does not oblige me to fulfill their expectations. The only unethical thing would be using free trial by abusing such system by for example using new emails or fake personal info for registration. rjshae
Been watching Rook on Starz, which is a paranormal spy drama situated in London. It's not bad, although I think I'd prefer it as a binge watch. The protagonist woke up in the midst of a bunch of crispy-fried dead people with her memory wiped and is trying to figure out what happened. Account sharing is techincally against Netflix' terms of use but as a lot of people can probably tell you they're not doing anything against it (at least for now) when you violate that by sharing your account and costs with friends and family not living in the same household*. I also suspect that they full well know that people use the premium plan and the four simultaneous streams in such a manner. It's pretty much content mafia modus operandi to assume one download is a lost sale and therefore every shared account a lost subscription but that doesn't work that way, at all, and I'm pretty certain Netflix knows that, much like HBO knows that GoT benefitted a lot from being the most pirated show on the planet. *This doesn't mean these illegal sites where you can rent obviously hacked streaming services logins for a pittance. BruceVC
I have just started watching The Loudest Voice and its excellent, its all about the rise and genesis of Fox News Roger Ailes was a genius, its really fascinating and insightful how he created the Fox News network. He is played by Russell Crowe who as usual is superlative as the media mogul Highly recommended "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. LadyCrimson
*watches that ST:Picard trailer* ...hmm. Well, I'd love to see him back in that role, but I still don't want to register/sub to CBSNow just for 10 episodes. Will they sell it on Bluray, maybe I'll just get it that way. ...although, with their talk of a "few" seasons, this is one of those times where I'd be a (little) worried Sir Patrick might die before they even get to film a 2nd season. He's aged well and all, but isn't he like around 80? “Things are as they are. InsaneCommander
New rumour: Star Trek: Picard story may have been created by Brian Fuller, that is not receiving any credit. He cried (not in a good way) when he saw the trailer, according to Robert Meyer Burnett. They explain Fuller's idea for the story, so this could be a spoiler for the show: Edit: making sure the link works Edited July 24, 2019 by InsaneCommander
majestic
To be honest I don't like the concept very much. The ideas are sound in terms of sci-fi and examining the human condition by providing refugees that nobody wants to take in, but it just doesn't fit into the universe. Especially not since it makes no sense for the Vulcans to refuse to take in Romulans after all the overtures towards peace and/or reunification in TNG and the alliance in DS9. Or resettling them anywhere in the Federation. Or resettling them someplace outside the Federation. The proposed Data/Picard conflict also seems somewhat contrived. Ugh. I'm deliberately ignoring the fact that what is (almost) a Type III civilisation on the Kardashev scale would be able to figure out that they need to evacuate their home long, long before their sun goes supernova. It's not like that happens in a week or two, and... uhm, the evacuation would have to be long before it goes boom, changes in the star happening and all that. But hey, it's a concept based on a Jar Jar Abrams idea. Edited July 25, 2019 by majestic Meow No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering. Raithe
Caught the first episode of Pennyworth. Interesting. Seeing that 50's/60s England thats slightly.. off from how it actually was. Jack Bannon works well as Alfred shortly after he left the Armed Forces and struggling to adapt to civilian life. Looks like the set up is going to be that early Cold War era, but with struggling secret societies of facist vs socialist vs The Crown, along with Thomas Wayne as the American influence getting it's toe in the murky waters. ShadySands
If that is indeed the plot then it's something of an odd contrivance PS I almost throat punched my cousin's boyfriend because when I showed him the trailer he said that he was surprised and might actually watch it now because it has some action and not boring talking. My cousin is already upset with me because I politely invited the guy to leave. You can talk about me all you want but nobody can bad mouth talky philosophical Trek under my roof.
