Jacksonville,FL shooting

Still early yet but as of 16:00 local time it sounds like the only one dead is the suspect. Hopefully that turns out to be true.

Edit: One news source says 1 dead three injured, another says 4 dead 11 injured, the latter is updated later than the former. No one knows what the hell is going on. Everyone is in such a rush be be first they go with any rumor they hear.

Not sure a new thread is neccesary, but okay,

Haven't heard anything yet about why it happened either, though my theory is a nuclear ragequit.

I mostly want my fellow Floridians to do a headcount to make sure everyone is ok.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

3 dead(including the shooter who shot himself) and 11 injured.

As I explained in the e-sports thread, the dude attended the event, started loosing, got angry and decided to shoot at people before killing himself in the end.

There used to be a signature here, a really cool one...and now it's gone.

E-sports has one bad thing for it, acting like a prick in a competitive setting in most others results in risking physical retribution.   Well or becoming Mourinho.

5$ says he was raised without a father.

Parents were divorced, but looks like he was living with his father (that's the home the police searched immediately after, anyway). In the divorce papers his parents apparently said that he had "significant medical problems and healthcare needs." (https://twitter.com/justin_fenton/status/1033924175176638464)

It's not stated that he has mental health issues, just 'significant medical problems'.

Also, since Florida is a concealed carry state, one wonders whether any of the other participants had guns or if guns were even allowed in the building in the first place.

If guns were allowed and others (besides the security officers you might expect) had guns, clearly the possibility of others having guns didn't have any deterrent, as the NRA likes to think the M.A.D. doctrine applies to guns.

Jacksonville Landing is a "gun free zone". I guess he didn't see the sign.

So far the bickering over guns has been absent. The weapon he used wasn't his apparently and he did not have permission to have it. According to the Baltimore Sun at least.

Personally I see this as yet further evidence of the corrosive impact of video games on the minds of young people. They promote violence and should be banned for everyone. After all, you don't need video games right?

I don't think it is a huge leap to assume mental health was part of that, given his actions. I could always be wrong, maybe he was well adjusted.

"Well-adjusted" kinda flies in the face of what he did, by definition.

In any case, going ballistic after getting rekt at whatever isn't exactly a new phenomenon, and as always, Russians are just better at it: https://themoscowtimes.com/news/man-loses-game-of-cards-takes-out-his-axe-59441

AFAICT, this is the first mass shooting directly connected to gaming, right?

Anyway, I'm off to a vigorous thoughts and prayers session after this shooting. Sending thought and prayers are bound to work sooner or later, right?

one suspects your answer largely depends 'pon what for you are thinking and praying.
