If the level cap increases they would have to make changes to UI as well and also invent some more high level abilities for all classes. I would say that's too much fuzz for a supposedly "smaller" DLC (than WM I and II). But I would be happy if they increase it and add some more cool ability stuff.

They could increase the level cap without adding new ability levels. Maybe allow multiclass to access level 8 or 8 and 9 and give single class characters more power levels/empower points.

Edit: Just throwing an idea here. I know this would f*** the balance and difficulty.

No idea. For a game with a relatively small budget of ~4 million $ it sells well I guess. Even if it only sold 200,000 copies for ~45$ each that's roughly double its budget. Financial success, no?

It all comes down to what Obsidian consider successful for this game. They certainly have goals and internal targets they're tracking that are not publicly available.

Yeah. Did you see the IGN interview? Josh emphasizes how important IP is for a studio like Obsidian. I think even if Deadfire turns out to be disappointing (considering their internal goals) they won't drop the whole Pillars theme. It's too important for them.

Don’t forget - as far as locations are concerned I expect most of the expansion to take place in the ‘beyond’. Think the animancers quest that sent you to the Beast of Winters realm. Really fun aesthetic.

A lot of bakers got if for less (15k copies @ 29$ )

Steam takes a 30% cut

Ideally, the sales should not only cover production cost but also leave enough to develop the next game. But I guess 200k copies and in that short time, with upcoming DLC sales, the numbers should be fine.

A lot of backers paid a LOT more than 29$. So I think it's pretty save to say that 29$ is not the average backer pledge. :)

But good point about Steam's share though.

I think increasing level cap per 5 levels every dlc is a good idea and needed for the sake of feeling progression.

But rather than giving multiclass access to lvel 8/9 powers they should implement an upgrade system where you can improve/enhance existing powers beyond simply gaining power level.

I would rather see actually 1 new level done of new unique abilities for every multiclass and every singleclass rather than a lazy way of unlocking level 8/9 for multiclasses and making single classes even more irrelevant.

I mean as a wizard after Meteor Storm what are you gonna cast? "Extinction Event"  :w00t:  - I guess that would be more a druid spell but you get the idea.

If they introduced Level X abilities and had multiclasses go to 4 levels between PLs after VII we'd end up with a 1 PL difference and equality of ability points at 39 each. Or just introducing Level X abilities single classes would have a 6 level lead in getting the highest tier stuff and do something like giving single classes more resources to be about 1.5x a multiclass, like 3 spells per level or 18 vs 12 guile. I'd like to see either implemented with an overall increase of 10 to the level cap, mostly because the xp allows you to reach 20 with still things to do(especially if you pick a certain blessing) and because epic spells, martial abilities, and passives is always cool.
