Are the expansions going to increase the level cap?

Recommended Posts

Any word on this yet?

Will the level cap be raised and more spells abilities be introduced?

I have a funny feeling that they might just raise the level cap for multiclasses so they can go higher then level 7 abilities and not introduce new levels for single classes

Any word?

thoughts?

I am suspisious about new powerful tiers with abillities. We can now summon dragon and meteor shower. What next? Tier X: Eora Destruction, all your enemies are dead, all your problems solved, forever!

What could be done are legendary levels, which are twice much costly so like 50k each, very slow progression, and you can gain only passives. So no more active abillities. But could make your spells penetrate more and fire more.

More powerful abillities: There is not enought cool abillities at level I-IX. So maybe stick to that.

I hope there won't be an increased level cap. We barely get to play at the current one. I'd like instead to see content tuned directly around it in the DLC's. As in going there with great geared level 20 parties and tweaking until the challenge is right, rather than tuning it for level 10 and hoping scaling will keep the difficulty comparable.

And I'm definitely not interested in more arms races between single and multiclass.

I hope not. They should rebalance the current levels and power progression, and expand the range of available abilities & enemy encounters within them. Wouldn't serve gameplay well to go to 30 or something and just be on a constant treadmill.

They could raise the level cap and add more abilities without necessarily adding more power levels; the there's plenty of room on the skill trees. If they do that, they could theoretically let multiclasses access the higher power levels but keep the slower levelling

Allowing MC to take VIII and IX PL, could result in harder balance, since some abillities could be made with an assumption that they will not interact with other classes abillities.

If they increase the level cap, they might go for BG2 Throne of Bhaal style high level powers. I’d be pretty surprised if they let multiclasses have access to level 8 and 9 powers, since some of those seems designed around not being able to be mixed with other class’s skills. Rather it would make more sense if there’s just a special set of “epic” skills, and maybe multiclasses would be restricted from some of them.

not sure about a level increase & power level increase. I would prefere a prestige classes system, where you can choose a specialisation (linked to your class or not) that progress from level 21-30 with new powers, not necessary more powerfull, but give you more diversity/specialised tools. Like the paragon/epic paths of d&d 4.

I would like to see the trinket system introduced for all classes, extra classe customization through gear (cut content).

More unique gears, some weapons don't have many options. Always love more uniques.

Overall, I vote for more customization / diversity / cool stuff, over stupid OP abilities that break balance.

Reaching the level cap happens rather quickly if you don't focus on the main quest and look around a bit.

It wouldn't make sense not to have a level cap increase with the DLC which doesn't mean to say that you can't have a challenge (which is basically what White March did for POE1, i.e. more levels but also more high level foes).

I'd like for the higher level abilities to be so rare that you need to complete difficult, possibly extrapalanar quests to track them down, or else obtain the favor of a deity or a powerful entity.

I would like to see the skill trees become wider with expansions, but not necessarly longer. The current amount of levels feels good for multi and single, but I feel there is less and less choice as we go down the skill tree path.

I understand they could not do this with Pillars, but once the trilogy for BG was entirely released, making your character progress throughout the saga was a great feeling. You could only get to lvl 8 with BG1. Bioware never needed to find some crappy reason for you to be lvl 1 in BG2. I'm afraid they will do the same if there is a Pillars 3. Increasing lvl cap in the 3 expansions is pretty much guaranting they'll do it. Don't want it.

Yeah, I miss this, and all the TSR/SSI games. But I don't think that will happen any more.

Because people expect to level to 'end game' in 1 game. Baldur's gate series work but you have a slow leveling. Not sure people will like this slow leveling/pacing and have to play through multiple games.

Because all games have a new system. Poe1, 2, tyranny etc... it's not only obsidian, but every game have it's own game rule, they change it each time. Since you're super powerfull at the end of a game, they must restart the leveling each time. And game system tend to be less robust than a pen & paper system that lived for years.

Perhaps one day they will do it (or another game company), but then you have to design a robust system or be based on a pen & paper one.

The issue with BG progression, was that yes it worked, but only for BG2. BG1 and especially Throne of Bhaal suffered because of it. I do find it silly, however, whenever devs kills the PC and reset his levels.

My prefered solution would be to not forcefully continue protagonist (something which IMO would solve at least some of Deadfire’s narrative problems) but I know there are quite a few fans of continuity.

There's no guarantee that there'll be a third game, just like there was no guarantee there would be a second. Why do you want to hold off on the cool stuff until a theoretical future game that, if it even happens, won't happen for years?

Well, i like continuity, and true, long sagas. I doubt Bioware and Interplay were already sure there would be a BG2 when they were developping BG1. I find leveling is too fast in Pillars. It should take way more time to get better at anything.

Rather, i guess the true matter of this problem is exactly like Takkik said. People are not the same than 20 years ago. Even when it comes to gaming, they want everything, immediately. Getting fireball mid game is just too much for most people's patience. Well, can't be helped anymore. One country that was a lighthouse for art and creativity in the 20th century has become the lighthouse of dumbed-down-but-with-big-budget, take-that-in-ya-face art creation. Mickael Bay, without a doubt, for me, is such a criminal. People are now used to this, and humankind knows how to adapt pretty fast. Sometimes, it's for the worse. Cool stuff? Quality of life things? *sigh*
