Yeh, i agree with you with the characters in your party......if they allowed us to use our party members for breaking down and creating stuff, we could then focus our main character onto whatever class we wanted, instead of the Sentinel because of its high amount of skills. I personally wanted to be a Guardian/Weaponsmaster or Guardian/Muarader or whatever it is spelt, but the need for the player to be all skillful to make good use of the workbench and labstations kinda ruins the game. If everything requires you to use your main character to do everything, then technically, you can play solo all the way through, except for certain spots when you don't control your main character. Technically, the other members of your party aren't really of any use to you, especially if you are strong enough to defend yourself, that is something they need to fix, but it ain't a major problem for me, just the unexplained slowdown is. For example, on Paragus, in a certain area, where there is just you and nothing, just the walls and a door, it slows right down to a crawl, but when i face the way i came in to that area, it is perfectly smooth....weird eh? (and no, it isn't an ATI glitch, my mom gets it and she has a 5900Ultra 256MB)

i have been trying to tweak the kotor2.ini file thingy and now it can't get past the part at paragus, where you are outside after the movie.
-
I always esc the intro movies and don't experience what you mentioned. I do experience slowdowns specific to certain areas, which could be some kind of memory leak. On the second planet as you mentioned, I got some slowdowns at the residential area. Everywhere else was smooth as silk. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, i get slowdowns in multiple areas, even Kotor II config scan says my computer specs exceed the recommended requirements, i wish i knew what caused it. For example, on Paragus, where there i alot of fire and smoke, i can turn north, south and east, but west it slows riight down to a crawl. I need to know what causes it.

Unkown line in swkotor2.ini
JamieKirby replied to Boba Fett's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
well, first, since the latest ATI Drivers disable the neat glow aura around light sources (light sabers etc.) i don't see the point in the 'Frame buffer Effects', i also don't see the use in shadows, neither do i use FSAA or anisotropic filtering. (never use them, never need to.) Besides this slowdown, which i have no idea what causes it is the only problem i get, everything else is perfect. -
Unkown line in swkotor2.ini
JamieKirby replied to Boba Fett's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
well, i get major slowdowns for some reason, with smoke and fire, so i tried to turn off the Emitters thingy and it made no difference. -
why don't you try playing it on a higher resolution and have FSAA turned off. (higher res = no need for FSAA) But i find it really dumb that, i can play HL2, Doom III on maximum settings, but i get slowdowns on Kotor II. lol

So far so good except for two minor glitches(ATI)
JamieKirby replied to MaglorD's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
well, i checked my games' config file and one says fullscreen=1 and the other says fullscreen=0 lol so i set both to fullscreen=1 :D -
Lock-up after creating new character
JamieKirby replied to Boss Hogg's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
glad to hear it, it is a good game, i just wish i knew what was slowing my gaming down. It doesn't hurt it, i just like to know whats causing it. lol -
well, Doom III use extensive shadows, which make the game more scary, if you hear zombiees groan in the shadows frightens you anyway. ATI can't process shadows as well as Nvidia, shadows aren't really important to me anywayz. But Kotor II runs fine on mine, despite some slowdowns i can't explain. Please, don't say it is ATI, it isn't. My moms' computer is slightly faster then mine, she also has a Geforce FX 5900 Ultra with 256MB, while i have a Radeon 9800Pro 128MB and she gets the same slowdown, and my brother that has a MUCH faster computer with a 6800 Ultra still gets the slowdowns. lol But hey, it could just be my game, but other then the slowdown, i don't have a problem with it.

Should I buy it or wait for the patch?

well, i have noticed that even a mere thug can withstand Stasis or Push about 9/10, i understand if he was a hutt or someone with a strong mind, but come on, a thug is stupid. lol Well, i am more of a melee person, so besides the healing, stasis, self buffing and push powers, i never use them. (well, i use Force Persuation or however you spell it.

Does obsidian not realize....
JamieKirby replied to sanskrit's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
ok, now nagging at obsidian because of mis-spelling is really stupid, i have noticed alot of mis-spellings, but i am not nagging at them, they were rushed so expect things like this. Besides some major slowdowns that i can't explain or find the causes of, the game works fine for me. The slowdowns don't stop me from playing the game, i just wish i knew what was causing them. -
well, i have been playing non-stop for a little while and i am on Telos and besides a little slowdown on Peragus, it has been virtually bug-free, unless you count it working to be a bug. my specs are: AMD AthlonXP 2600+ 1024MB DDR PC2700 ATI Radeon 9800Pro (Using ATI Catalyst 5.2 with the 'atioglxx.dll' file from 4.3 to get the nice glows back) It is running perfectly. I did get screenshot type slowdowns during the prologue, but the problem was caused by having the v-sync turned on, so turning it off, fixed that problem.
-
i am 23. I am also getting alot of performance drops on peragus. i never use shadows and the enhanced graphics thing is turned off. (whats the point in having it on, if you don't get any glows?) no idea whats causing it, according to the config thing, my specs *exceed* the recommended requirements. I have tried ATI 4.11 and 5.2 and same thing, no crashes, but still slowdowns. other then that, perfect.
-
so far, it seems pretty good, but from all the problems people have said they had, i thought my copy would self-destruct. lol But besides a single sound-looping in the beginning and some unexplained slowdowns, which doesn't stop me playing it, i just wish i knew what causes it....i have yet to recieve a crash of any sort.
-
well, laptops technically aren't made for gaming, but it can be done...but since i don't have a laptop, i can't help you.

So after all the changing to first class got you nothing. Who did you get it from then? Also. Enjoy. PS. I already completed it twice. " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I got it from play.com. ordered it on Friday 11th, it was dispatched on the same day and it arrived today. it was about 3 days. (not including weekends) its weird, the only problem i have come up against is a little sound that loops and some slowdowns, even though my system *exceeds* the recommended settings as the config said. lol I am trying 5.2 to see if it helps. Also, the sodding glow auras around light sources don't work, even though the devs said they sorted out any ATI Specific issues. (which this is)

YAY!!!! got it!!!! installing now.

well, i hope they get that in their thick skulls. lol

Patch 1.0a - brings game to 2.01.420
JamieKirby replied to Keeval's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
well, if they fixed the spelling mistakes, its probably because they didn't want to look like idiots for spelling something wrong......even i would find it embarrasing. (which i probably spelt wrong. lol) -
Patch 1.0a - brings game to 2.01.420
JamieKirby replied to Keeval's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I wonder what problems got fixed...how big is the patch? NM, they aren't for us domestics. So it isn't the patch we've all been waiting for...bleh. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> as far as i know it only fixed the PDF manual and that nothing else is fixed, they just probably added in the other files to make us think they fixed something besides a useless PDF File. -
from what others say is that it only fixes a .PDF file. lol but i have yet to recieve my copy of Kotor II so i can't find out for myself. and i hope all i get is the window problem and not what others have been getting.

They probably released this so LA couldn't sue Obsidian for not delivering a "whole" product. Publishers and developers enter into binding contracts that spell out every little thing that constitutes delivering a full product and leaving the manual out could be construed (legally) as a breach of contract if it is specifically spelled out somewhere that Obsidian had to ship the RC (Release Candidate) with it. While I agree that this shouldn't be a priority, I am just giving a probable explanation as to why this and many other "useless" patches are released by various companies. Also... RE: Console support... The XBox version of KOTOR2 is BUGGIER than the PC version. I have it and can tell you right now that the PC is actually leaps and bounds above the state the XBox version is in and since it is not LIVE enabled, there are going to be NO patches for the XBox version. Period. Granted, this will be no comfort for those who can't even start or play the game on PC... But I don't want to get into the whole "consoles vs. PC" wars because it is just fact that console sales far outweight PC title sales... So, yeah. Consoles are a higher priority. It's good business sense. Accept it. BUT that doesn't mean just because you play PC games you are superior which is the attitude and mentality that a lot of PC gamers like to go around with like some badge of honor especially when PC games are in desperate need of patches like right now. At least the PC version CAN be patched. The question is when? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, i personally prefer PC Games, especially when it comes to FPS games, i find them easier on the PC (mouse and keyboard). But i think if a game is being made for both X-Box and PC, they both should be patched of any bugs. (xbox via xbox live) Maybe its just me, but i think companies should invest money to patch the games that they do make, good seller or not. Like Troila or whatever and Activition, should do a patch that fixes the bugs on Vampire Bloodlines. (all Vampire Bloodlines players know what i mean) The same goes for Obsidian and Lucasarts, it doesn't matter whos fault it is, but if it was rushed out for any reason, they should fix all the bugs that they can. But now-a-days, all the companies care about is money and as long as they get money, they don't give a rats ass.....its rather pathetic to put money ahead of satisfying their customers, but its a fact.
