  1. Well, it's worth buying Serenity on HD-DVD, even if you don't have a HD-DVD player! PS HD DVD may be non-exclusively backed by three major studios: Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Warner Bros.; On 20 October 2005 Warner Bros. announced they would release titles on the Blu-ray format, in addition to HD DVD-Video. 18 19 Of the six largest Hollywood studios, this leaves only Universal Studios supporting just HD DVD exclusively; the others either support both formats or Blu-Ray Disc. So we can buy it on BOTH formats! (w00t)
  2. Actually, OSX is just a skinned Unix flavour. It's built on XWindows. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know. You still can't run linux programs under OSX. I think you knew what I meant. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope. Just making sure you knew what I meant. Which is the facts.
  3. ... like Liverpool. :D
  4. And for that, Southern California is truly grateful.
  5. Sort of a force of will ("I do NOT believe in luck!") over instinct ("I believe in luck") ... "
  6. Exactly. And, don't forget, there was the comment about how someone from Liverpool would not stand for a happy-slapper.
  7. Like I said, get out more. Or watch more boxing. Or more MMA. Or more hockey. A suckerpunch like that could put the lights out on anyone. Edit: Here's one of the more famous (and recent ones): Crazy Horse is NOT gay! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2355634961125449383 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the advice! ) I box for recreation, and I have watched a lot of matches: people seldom get knocked out with one punch, and rarely the first. That guy doesn't get knocked out "cold", he's shaking his head from the moment he hits the canvas. It was more surprise that knocked him on his arse, rather than the power of the blow. The original footage looks set-up. I hope it's not, but it's just too coincidental.
  8. But sometimes you have a point. Apparently some of the compositions are quite complex, with music rising when the lyrics fall, and vice versa, and some other nifty tricks. I don't listen to them much, though.
  9. Yeah, I know someone whom I would call lucky. That is beside who they are as a person: talented, intelligent, etc, all beside the point. I know another person who was born under a sign. I mean, nothing small ever happens to them: it's all good or all bad. What we call luck is more to do with our way of contextualizing incidents in the normal forward motion of time, which have no obvious causal link. in other words, it's about how we represent the happenings, not intrinsic to the person or events. that just means you are living in denial.
  10. Why do you say that? Take some different songs, from the late sixties. They have been composed in intricate and counter-intuitive ways.
  11. There are two points to consider, with your stated argument: classical music is patently more complex: music that involves an orchestra of seventy instruments playing for an hour versus a synthesizer and an out-of-tune teenager? classical music, as Mr Suite pointed out, stimulates the mind, not the body.
  12. Actually, OSX is just a skinned Unix flavour. It's built on XWindows.
  13. Just pray that they remain such a figment of your life ...
  14. The Beatles, whatever their faults, have had an enormous impact on Rock (and Pop), song-writing and general culture. Like, loathe or love them, their influence and talent is undeniable. And I didn't even fix the poll. "
  15. Hasn't HD-DVD been delayed a few months?
  16. Don't forget the Indian subcontinent, too: they are set to surpass the US in a few decades, too (fifty years or so, IIRC).
  17. I know there are a lot of people which are not affected by music, and i find it fascinating. As far back as i can remember, music always had a profound effect on my life. Not listening to music is something i just cannot fanthom. That said, perhaps popular music is just not for you, you should try something a little more on the 'serious' side (classical, jazz or this 'complex' death metal i keep hearing about)... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, my family was hardly musical (although my maternal grandfather apparently could play the piano by ear ... he just never got a chance to because he was working two full-time jobs for his entire adult life). the music master I had in my first boarding school (English Public School, I was nine) was a total ... err ... [insert rude wod for very poor teacher]. That didn't help. I have music that has coincided with various stages of my life, and some tunes that are memorable for that reason, but I do not have music playing on a daily basis. Even when travelling in the car, I will listen to spoken news, current affairs and art / philosophy / analysis. Pop music I find completely inane. Which is interesting, because my partner actually had a couple of top-20 hits ... " Though I do enjoy Opera (although the German stuff is a bit cacophonous), especially Italian. I did like Phantom of the Opera, too.
  18. Not a real one ... until it's too late!
  19. I think I'll watch Serenity the film, now ...
