  1. :D (Sorry) Nice plans have a habit of falling apart when deadlines approach...
  2. It could have something to do with Obsidian not yet having a long history and backlog of games (under the name "Obsidian"). Also, what could be discussed about Kotor2, was discussed to pieces one and a half month before it was officially announced. A few newcomers after the announcement tried to recycle a few of the old subjects, but since most had been discussed before, it stirred little new interest. Now if they were to start a developers diary for Kotor2, so people could keep up with whats happening, watch this space for people trying to outdo each other, competing for the Obsidian guys attention. Oh, and some wallpaper sized concept art would help *hint!* *hint!* (and some post apocalyptic levels, blue jumpsuits and a female npc with a tail)
  3. Say hello to Drizzt in space...
  4. "There is enough SPAM to destroy the world ten times over..." How to get a message through Chapter 1 - History of SPAM Chapter 2 - The difference between SPAM and quality Chapter 3 - Drowning amongst spammers, what to do ? Appendix A Chapter 1 - History of SPAM Much to the chagrin of Hormel Foods, maker of the canned "Shoulder Pork and hAM"/"SPiced hAM" luncheon meat, the term "spam" has today come to mean network abuse, particularly junk E-mail and massive junk postings to USENET. Further history can be found here: http://www.templetons.com/brad/spamterm.html Chapter 2 - The difference between SPAM and quality SPAM on USENET, BBS, Discussion Forums,Message Boards etc. is most often associated with prolific postings of messages of no informational value, i.e. they serve no purpose. The motivations for spamming (v. of SPAM) are many and varied. Some is the result of lack of skill, some just reflect the personality of the poster and then some are just doing it for the competitiveness in achieving highest possible postcounts. Quality postings on the other hand are serious attempts at conveying messages with either informational or otherwise relevant information to the recipients of the message. Chapter 3 - Drowning amongst spammers, what to do ? While slightly dependant on the target audience, spending some effort on writing a message that is both eloquent and structured, has a greater chance of being received by people, who are more than just occasional spammers themselves. Illustrating Example Lets imagine a poster, lets just call him "Garth", who wants to suggest three things to the people, who are creating the next game, he looks forward to. Garth would like to suggest colour match between lightsaber blades and robes, high heeled boots for female jedi and finally a somewhat longer game experience. Garth tries one approach first: yo im Garth im just soooo cool I has watched star wars since before i were born and played all star wars game an therfore know all!!!! So u now spread ur ears and u listen and get ur fingers out, for if u ignore me then u just suxx so were was i yes we NEED those awesome lightsabrers that sort of just automaticaly change colors to match my robes and dont you lazy bastards make my robe without hoods for hoods are just wat we need for uber cool robes and then we also no can do without those friggin stiletto heels for my jedi chick for i like playing girls and then give us some fuqin space to play on for i finish last game in under 20 an that just suxx for i played them all and if u dont think that too then u can just p*ss off!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS: Oh and we need more polls to show that i am right --- While Garth gets something through, that something is definitely not his point. A completely wasted post, that at best aggravates a lot of people and starts a recursive flaming process. This is a SPAM post. Garth tries another approach Hello, I'm new here, I heard that the developers takes all the ideas from the boards here and puts into the new game. So therefore i would like to have the following added lightsaber colors that automatically adjusts to my robecolor, we cant kill those ugly siths looking like a patchwork of materials and colors. Also we need more footwear for the girl jedis for my girlfriend says you cant go out in a city wearing that. And the old game was way to short so if you want my money again you better add double triple that much or give me free download of content for my xbox! --- While definitely better than the first attemp, not technically SPAM anymore, the post is likely to be overlooked by the intended readers, simply because it's awful Garth tries one last time Hello, I'm new to these boards and would like to make a couple of suggestions: Lightsaber blades that adjust their colour to the robe the player is currently wearing High-heeled footwear for female jedis Longer game First point: Colour clashes between garb and tools doesn't look good and is tedious to adjust manually. Second point: Assuming that both sexes will wear male equipment is politically uncorrect and you might get sued. Third point: It's a competitive market out there and other companies are bringing out games that currently has more value to offer for my money, besides, such brilliant developers as you can surely make a better gamimg experience than the first game, right ? --- Still not perfect, but because the text is easier on the eye, odds are that some of the message might get read and appreciated for content (notice the nice suck-up in the last section ?). Point being, that by breaking up the monotony of the message and working on presentation, it's easier to access the information hidden in the post. It can also have the positive sideeffect, that individual sections of text are easier to quote and discuss (i.e. it will stand out amongst massive blocks of text). Appendix A About "social" spamming. Some posters have aquired a habit of chatting on message boards. This is often used to express rejection or accept of suggestions, general bantering, cracking jokes etc. While technically being SPAM, it can be argued, that by contributing to a community feeling, it does contribute something. Even if not relevant for the topics, community feeling can compel other posters to join in and become part of the community and thereby expand the scope and range of the arguments provided in general (i.e. useful).
  5. He wasn't even a troll... He was just pathetic...
  6. Them sneaky trolls...
  7. I vaguely remember THX-1138 as an interesting movie, can't comment on American Grafitti though... Lucas once told in an interview (sorry, no source) that the first Starwars and Indiana Jones movies were something like a realisation of his childhood fantasies. Perhaps the success of the first movies reflected that, good old fashioned comic book entertainment, made the way he liked it, and it showed. Later, he probably sold out and made movies and tv-series that he expected would sell. Just a thought. Might not be related to truth in any way...
  8. Count Doofus just doesn't sound as menacing as Darth Tyranus...
  9. ^^ :D You'll become Bastila's step-father
  10. Things worth knowing about trolls. Chapter 1 - The Nature of Trolls Chapter 2 - Troll territories Chapter 3 - What to do if facing a troll Appendix A Chapter 1 - The Nature of Trolls Trolls are beasts, that will jump other posters with (often personal) offending posts. The posts themselves usually have little relevance to the topic. The troll will bitch and moan and generally try it's best to ruin fun for others, by making as much of a nuisance of itself as it can. The commonly accepted theory is, that trolls for various real life (or lack of a real life) are attention seekers. Can be either generally bored or obsessive compulsive in their desire to make other posters lives miserable. Chapter 2 - Troll territories Trolls are often few and far between. It's just that, like the distant howl of a wolf indicates the presence of a wolf, they are more noisy than actually present. Most boards with a certain minimum number of members, seems to attract one or more trolls. Since, however, that the number of trolls doesn't grow proportionally with the number of posters, it is speculated that trolls are highly territorial and doesn't tolerate the presence of other trolls very well. It is not know whether trolls are cannibals or not. Chapter 3 - What to do if facing a troll Remember, that attention is one of the trolls primary motivations. Try ignoring it at first. If you starve it of attention, it might move on to other hunting grounds. Never try to strike back at a troll. If you tear it apart, all the parts will just regenerate and your problem is bigger than it was before. Somebody tried suggesting that you might offer it fish to eat. Perhaps a change of diet might redirect its attention. If the troll is too starved and won't go away, you might have to PM a mod and suggest that the troll population gets regulated. Appendix A Remember that a troll is all sound, it has no teeth. Therefore it should never be taken seriously, no matter how much chest thumping and yelling it does.
  11. Not a bad idea B) Could be a "get two for one" there, making swoopracing more interesting and some practical use for skills. With low repair skill, you can add new bumpers and a pair of velvet dice to the rearview mirror. With high repair skill, you can add shock absorbers, nitro dispensers and optimize the engine etc.
  12. I still think, this software is trying to tell me something...
  13. Not bad. B)
  14. How about letting the next version of the board software enforce the FAQ automatically, at least size-wise. Emphasis mine. Swithing off signature viewing in your settings is all nice and easy. Ti's just that some of the people out there have funny and/or intelligent signatures, that it would have been nice to see...
  15. Slightly off-topic, when does that piece play ? I made a point of keeping my ears open for something that could be considered "Bastilas Theme", but apparantly missed it. Is it a particular event or an ongoing thing ? The only music I noted in the game was Manaan (which grated on my nerves) and the Starforge ambience which was brilliant and spot on for that place Back on-topic, yes, Kotor1 was a bit lacking in the length department. And please, don't extend the game length with pointless walking Otherwise, the game looks pretty much as expected. I was worried at first, until somebody mentioned that they had been concentrating on the Xbox demo for E3. It did look way "less attractive" visually than Kotor1 on the pc. But then, I don't really care about appearances, but ease of use interface and a good story with interesting characters. Less Disney like qualities sounds good (darker ambience), B) ... [begging]Oh, and some wallpaper sized concept art please *hint!* *hint!* [/begging]
  16. Isn't that encounter (and the crystals) only available after completing all planets, except the unknown one ? Oh, and bring your credit card, that rodians gratitude comes at a price B) He does have some nice items for sale though. Sorry, can't help with a link. I'm willing to swear that I've watched that picture with Atton Rand at least 10 times now. Now that I actually wanted to locate it...
  17. You try saying that to his face
  18. :D I've made my share of funny slips too. English is my third language, after Danish and German
  19. I don't think he got it either... The point was not, to make it intentionally harder to create mods, but not to divert resources from the game into the tools. Let those with spare time on their hands do that. Some games benefit tremendously from mod tools, like multiplayer and coop games. Single player games have very little apart from the odd tweak to equipment and characters to offer (and sometimes the odd bugfix). I've tried plenty of mods for BG2, but apart from the 45+ bugfixes that volunteers created, the only true mod that stayed was "Dungeon Begone" I did a few funny tweaks to Kotor1, mostly adding a big yellow smiley to Bastilas bikini, color changes and suff, but that was only for the fun factor of it. I can't really imagine anything useful for Kotor1, being a very "complete" game in it's own right. If I wanted full fledged mods with levels, maps, quests etc. I would figure out how to use NWN's toolkit, since I already spent my money on that one. I'm pretty sure somebody out there could whip up a lightsaber with sound effects and everything
  20. That didn't make a lot of sense Yes, about mod tools Can they make coffee? Do they come in light blue? This thread is only slightly better than the "Can we have mod tools" threads. That doesn't say a lot Those with the necessary skills will eventually get the data formats right and develop tools for it. Might take a while though.
  21. Perhaps turning purple is a sideeffect for Twi'leks when they turn to the dark side ? Like humans turning all greyskinned and veiny
  22. Agreed B) NWN was a wasted of time and money. Tried 1 (one) user made module from the top ten list. It couldn't really be any worse than the OC. It wasn't. Wasn't an improvement either. There are some very useful BG2 mods out there. But I only use the Baldurdash bugfixes, as in those that fixes actual bugs in the game (wrong weapon effects, wrong stats compared to description, stuff like that). No need to spend valueable developer resources on making tools and compilers userfriendly. However, for games like Kotor and Kotor2, it could have been nice with a documented file and model format. That way, people who really wanted, could write the tools for modding. Just look at the sheer volume of Infinity tools out there, once the fileformats got reverse engineered. Odds are though, that games like Kotor2 will not be mod friendly. I don't really care that much either, if just the game is relatively bug free
