  1. I never saw that one. It's probably a console game (I don't own any consoles), but I did have a lot of fun playing around with Lara Croft. If people had the same interests, there wouldn't really be a need for Kotor2, they could just have put what people wanted in Kotor1. I'm as "guilty" as the next game player in finding game romances intriguing, but I prefer a more subtle approach, like the one in PS:T, where old romances from your previous lives were an integral part of the story.
  2. I was partially expressing a worry about some peoples fascination with pixellated people and partially poking fun at you. Romances adds a nice touch to games, but unless the game is about the romance, it should take backseat (no pun intended) in deference of the main story. If "romances" are to be done well (which I didn't think they were in Kotor1), they require a lot of resources (scripting, writing, testing, voice acting etc.) which has a detrimental effects on those parts of the game that gets sacrificed for it. Oh, and
  3. ^^ You are easy to satisfy. ^^ Perhaps, that says more about the crowd. ^^ :D All the little Romeos. ^^ Girlfriends must be in serious short supply somewhere... ^^ B) Try "Leasure Suit Larry" Kotor2 definitely need more work put into the NPC's and the story, the usefulness of skills, etc. There is only so much developer resources to go around. So what are they going to do with that time ? A Star Wars game or soft porn ?
  4. :D 36-22-36 ? I couldn't care less. I picked a slightly european guy/girl in my games, because it was easier to identify with. Had there only been one, it wouldn't matter either. Edit: And it was ^&%$ difficult to play a girl! Impossible to identify with
  5. Voted for NPCs more responsive to alignment because my first choice wasn't present. Immersive story Characterizations Ease of use game interface Lowest on the list, the dress up my avatar in the latest fashion foppery options...
  6. The Grammar Gestapo strikes back... Perhaps just provide a link to an online dictionary ? Not everybody here has English as their first language. Heck, Boromir could keep on fighting with a handful orc arrows attached to his body. Nothing beats dismembering. Anybody remember MP's Holy Grail ? 'Tis but a flesh wound! Watch Episode One again. Doesn't Kenobi's lightsaber stop working after full immersion? I take it that they're water resistant, but not proof. So, you can use your lightsaber during the rainy season, but the warranty is void, if used for underwater combat. Generally, using appliances under water is a bad idea. Apart from the slow movement and the joke with the shark combat, the sub water levels weren't really that bad. They actually had a slightly claustrophobic feel to them, because of the confined spaces and because of the vulnerability you felt, unable to fight properly, when leaving the buildings. They missed the opportunity to steal a bit from Thief. I wonder if there will be levels in Kotor2, where you have to negotiate hostile territory in a non-violent manner ?
  7. The Bastila romance was silly. She showed about as much warmth and passion as a tax statement. While being very young (juvenile) and inexperienced, might explain her behaviour. I would have preferred one of them twi'lek dancers any day. I'm not going to quote CA's answer to the romance thing again, but it does look like they are taking relationships a bit more seriously this time around.
  8. Perhaps we should leave the jews out of the equation, first off they were not the largest sufferers (that was either the russians or the chinese/koreans, depending on the what is the true number for the latter) and second, it would turn it into a real life political discussion. Lets just say that guys like Hitler, Hideki and Stalin, between them, got a lot of people killed to further their own personal ambitions. The destruction of Taris, which probably killed more people than all of WWII and later in Star Wars history, the destruction of Princess Leias homeplanet (whatsitsname?) by the Death Star, simply to intimidate and rule through fear. Although used as a mean to an end, fear is not a goal in itself for Fascism. It's about the state controlling people for the greater good of the state, whereas with the Sith it "seems" to be more about the individual and the means used to advance within the Sith hierarchy and then advancing the Sith cause secondary. Casual cruelty is more a trait, that they seem to share.
  9. "Managing senior programmers is like herding cats." - Dave Platt I can testify to the validity of the above statement
  10. Correct me if I'm wrong... Isn't the Sith about not doing what the force dictates, but to use the force as the Sith sees fit ? Since they are hardly a religious movement, they are more like an Oligarchy than a Theocracy.
  11. Social Darwinism ? Probably a very good description of the Sith.
  12. Ehhh... How did you arrive at that conclusion ?
  13. Found the following description of fascism as an ideology by by Matthew N. Lyons: Fascism is a form of extreme right-wing ideology that celebrates the nation or the race as an organic community transcending all other loyalties. It emphasizes a myth of national or racial rebirth after a period of decline or destruction. To this end, fascism calls for a "spiritual revolution" against signs of moral decay such as individualism and materialism, and seeks to purge "alien" forces and groups that threaten the organic community. Fascism tends to celebrate masculinity, youth, mystical unity, and the regenerative power of violence. Often, but not always, it promotes racial superiority doctrines, ethnic persecution, imperialist expansion, and genocide. At the same time, fascists may embrace a form of internationalism based on either racial or ideological solidarity across national boundaries. Usually fascism espouses open male supremacy, though sometimes it may also promote female solidarity and new opportunities for women of the privileged nation or race. Fascism's approach to politics is both populist--in that it seeks to activate "the people" as a whole against perceived oppressors or enemies--and elitist--in that it treats the people's will as embodied in a select group, or often one supreme leader, from whom authority proceeds downward. Fascism seeks to organize a cadre-led mass movement in a drive to seize state power. It seeks to forcibly subordinate all spheres of society to its ideological vision of organic community, usually through a totalitarian state. Both as a movement and a regime, fascism uses mass organizations as a system of integration and control, and uses organized violence to suppress opposition, although the scale of violence varies widely. Fascism is hostile to Marxism, liberalism, and conservatism, yet it borrows concepts and practices from all three. Fascism rejects the principles of class struggle and workers' internationalism as threats to national or racial unity, yet it often exploits real grievances against capitalists and landowners through ethnic scapegoating or radical-sounding conspiracy theories. Fascism rejects the liberal doctrines of individual autonomy and rights, political pluralism, and representative government, yet it advocates broad popular participation in politics and may use parliamentary channels in its drive to power. Its vision of a "new order" clashes with the conservative attachment to tradition-based institutions and hierarchies, yet fascism often romanticizes the past as inspiration for national rebirth. Fascism has a complex relationship with established elites and the non-fascist right. It is never a mere puppet of the ruling class, but an autonomous movement with its own social base. In practice, fascism defends capitalism against instability and the left, but also pursues an agenda that sometimes clashes with capitalist interests in significant ways. There has been much cooperation, competition, and interaction between fascism and other sections of the right, producing various hybrid movements and regimes. --- If that applies to the Sith, not really sure. Parts of it perhaps.
  14. Nicely put If thats supposed to be a plot twist, somebody needs a second job to pay the rent.
  15. All we need now is a Darth Solo, and the nic embarrasment level will reach critical mass...
  16. It would be a poor game that needed gimmicks like that, to motivate players to complete the game. The game (crpg's) should be able to offer rewards during play and offer a satisfying conclusion in the game. Want extras ? buy a special/collectors edition.
  17. Talk about faulty logic... If I drink whisky on the rocks, I get drunk. If I drink rum on the rocks, I get drunk. If I drink vodka on the rocks, I get drunk. Quo est demonstrandum, I should quit the ice cubes, for they make me get drunk. Some people were here before they knew that Obsidian were making a Star Wars game.
  18. Because less is known about the content, than about the presentation of it ? Maybe posters care less about the game, than about the gimmicks, the rules implementations, latest fashion on the core worlds etc. Perhaps it's just because it's easier for the developers to provide info about anything but the details of the game content, without giving too many spoilers (like that the bad guy with the white mask is male ) Could be other reasons. Speculation if sometimes more entertaining than facts. B)
  19. Is that a not so subtle hint to use the search function before starting new threads ? ... Sorry, coudn't resist, evil spammer Gorth, I'll go home and beat myself with a stick...
  20. Thanks Opus, I'll give them a try when I can get my hands on them.
  21. I never played any halflife I might have to catch up on that one someday. Same thing goes for that System Shock I've heard some positive things about. As for Kotor2, I suspect the are going to reuse the formula (the cinematic feel) of the first one. They need the little camera tricks, the showing of your own combat moves etc. for the engine doesn't give a lot of immersion otherwise. The graphics engine didn't impress anybody (at least I hope not). Consider it "misdirection of attention" or a sleight of hand trick if you want.
  22. [flamebait]Which selfrespecting mandalorian warrior would want to admit being beaten by a girl... [/flamebait] Later he turned all soft and squishy, lost all self respect and became a Revan (genderless) groupie B) I liked the guy, one of the more interesting npcs, and an awesome melee fighter to boot. Wouldn't mind seeing more of him in Kotor2
