Nah nevermind. Dark ages are just that, ages, they never last forever. The inquisition didn't, that priesthood in Iran wont, G.W. Bush wont. In only 4 years, another guy (girl ?) will be there

And ? That's no excuse for not poking fun at you At least you know it's just that

Why would the world want to run the president ?

They could start by hiring Jessica Urquhart. Her "news" page on the old BIS website was often quite special. Sort of miss it.

Looks like Darque got her own little pointy eared, two foot tall stalker there... And yes, females do seem to be a very small minority here. It's a place for not for

It's a bit hard to guess sometimes, especially with all the "transvestites" out there (guys dressing up, using girly avatars)

The sad bottomline: Don't trust politicians at all

My first Maya project was an animated bouncing ball, jumping through a flaming loop. Right out of a training book that I bought. Still, it was a fun start, actually seeing something you do in action.

You think there is a "St. Eldar" in it for you ?

That would be: EU = Eniversal Uducation Doesn't really add up

As if 3Dmax and Maya wasn't expensive enough (still using Maya learning edition). It might just be my imagination (I don';t have any numbers to back me up), but 3Dmax seems to be the preferred tools in the gaming industry and Maya the tool of the animated movies industry (like e.g. Pixar). Edit: Lightwave is sort of the ugly duckling. Not as popular as it's two cousins, but reputedly easier to use than both.

That was also the words that got stuck in my mind for some reason. Still haven't figured out where I got it from though. When you get captured on the Leviathan and you choose HK to rescue you, some Sith grunt reports something along the lines of "we found a deactivated hunter killer model in the cargo hold", to his commanding officer. Hey, thanks! I really must be getting old and yes, I also played the Leviathan with HK-47 to the rescue. That is, I played the leviathan from a saved game with all possible combinations

You know, he did eventually but there was such a controversy when he denied it but applauded to whoever did do it...then later said he did it, and stuck with that eventually. maybe they didn't want to deal with that stuff. More likely: maybe they wold rather not give incentive for another person/group to get their name in there for that record... As they have it, they highlight the record and give the record to the tragedy, not the person responsible. That is how it should be. No need to recognize Bin laden and give him the respect for that accomplishment, as it were. You're right. They probably have some standard template they fill out for their records. In 50 years they might fill in the field when it has become a less sensitive subject (or somebody breaks the record)

Weird, I thought most people in the US agreed that declaring war and fighting against the Japanese was the right thing to do. When Germany and Italy declared war in the US, it didn't really matter that much what the general concensus in the US was, others had already made the decision for them Of course, the Russians then went on to beat the crap out of the Germans and the Japanese armies in eastern asia (Manchuria) and do the majority of the bleeding and dying. They still left quite a lot of Japanese, a few germans and a handful of Italians to fight though...

It's a good way to keep the stress levels down and anyway, the HR department recommends more physical exercise during the day when working long hours at the office

If that was about Clintons popularity... To quote myself (which feels a bit odd to be honest) Disclaimer: That is words from a complete outsider that knows very little about the politics that doesn't make the headlines.

I like the "just for fun" poll at Winterwind better... Bush vs Kerry vs Clinton. Clinton ran with 100% of the votes

A bit more depth to the story. It was on the thin side. The romances were a bit silly. The NPC's could definitely use a bit more personality (IIRC, Juhani, Canderous and Jolee were the only ones with a "deeper" personality). I don't care much about flash and gfx, so that it ran on a 4+ year old engine architecture showed, but didn't annoy me particularly. The music was unevenly distributed quality wise. The supermarket background music on Manaan was just plain awful. But the only thing that really irritated me, was that I was forced to switch class to a (beep) Jedi. There was no reason for the switch (except bad story). Even if you were Revan and the use of the force was easily reaquired, you (the new person) might be happy with your new identity and continue as you were. Tell the Jedi Council good riddance and head of to save/conquer the galaxy with your motley crew of henchmen

Self Taught - how many get along with this?
Gorth replied to xanas3712's topic in Developers' Corner
Generally speaking, as in not games developer specific, it would be a very good idea to get that degree. If for no other reason, then to show that you've got what it takes to be in that line of work. I started out as a self tought and it was all very nice, except that I had to work twice as hard as people with a paper to get recognition for what I did. Later in life, I went back and did my CS thing, and that was the best move in my life. Not only did it open my eyes for a completely different world, but it also taught me the naivite of my previous work. Today, I have the benefit of age and a network of friends in all the right spots around the world, no small part of whom are buddy's from the university time. And that's just the social and and employment potential benefits. From a purely professional point of view, self taught people tend to very limited in theit "skill palette", they are very good at what they are interested in, but they are not very flexible when it comes to working on even related tasks. I know this, because I've had to let a few people go every now and then (mostly self taughts), they simply were not flexible enough. Specialists are very good for contract jobs, but not for permanent employment. For me, the most important lesson learnt, was the skill of aquiring new developer skills. Something that might require a different mindset than the "untrained" mind. Getting a formal education definitely broadens your horizont as a developer, games developer or not. Just my 0.25$
