Maybe I should give that Trend Micro program a try. I have been happy with Zonealarm Pro for my internet security needs so far (except when it kills my system and I need to cut the power to reboot), but you can never be paranoid enough :ninja10:

If you just knew Congratulations guys. A healthy dose of insanity helps

Lets just say that the Dodo has better survival chances @The Owner: While a general chat thread is a nice idea, they tend to bring out several bad aspects of people who have forgotten what it is like to be new. I hope this doesn't discourage you from starting new topics if you have areas of interest you would like to discuss. There are however already a number of "themed chat" threads: What you did today The Funny Videos thread Movies you have seen lately The music thread Plus a lot special interest sports, anime, politics, comics etc. threads

I am worried about the longevity of this thread... *runs off, fetching little black book*

There is also a third option, sometimes people just happens to have few common interests. Whether it be age differences, cultural/political/religious differences or just simply no common ground. It might come across as "Ignoring", but it is not necessarily a deliberate ignore

Words of wisdom... Peoples responses can depend on what time of day and even which day of the week you post. Weekends being slower than work days for some reason (you would expect people to be busy working on workdays, but nooo...) Another factor is the section of the forum you post in. People who are interested in certain subjects will hang out in those sections. If you create a thread about something only vaguely related to the section, odds are, many people will have little interest in it. Check the section subtitles/descriptions. Posting "style", this is a trickier one. Generally, people seems to react hostile to "attention seekers". Quite a few of the oldies know each other (and can be quite insensitive in the way they deal with each other) but are often willing to offer a response to well meant questions. On the other hand, if a post leaves the impression of "Hi, I am the center of the universe, now talk to me" it will lead to people simply ignoring it. The casual chat usually start once people know each other better. A good start would be to introduce yourself, your interests, what you are looking for etc. Participate in other peoples threads and let them get a better insight into who you are and what you stand for. Acceptance comes together with familiarity. Everybodys postcount was 0 once (even if that was a long time ago for some)

Not really necessary - Buddhism accepts reincarnation, while explicitly rejecting the soul. What is the purpose of reincarnation then? Mind you, I know very little of Buddhism. Is it to enforce a "good lifestyle" without the benefit of previous accomplishments? How do Buddhist faith work with people in elevated positions within their ranks then? Is that based entirely on merits in their current lifetime? I would think so if previous actions are discarded together with the previous soul.

Somebody learnt a lesson somewhere I know the feeling of an attention seeking cat... no better place to go to sleep than on your keyboard/paperwork/etc.

All of the above! But primarily looking for criticism of the concept from rationalist grounds, but criticism from a religious or ethical perspective is acceptable as well. Wow, thats a very big box to open (It says "Pandora" on the label) I suppose that, in order to accept the possibilty reincarnation, you first have to be willing to accept the concept of a "soul". That is, some kind of container which holds the essence which is you, preserving it past the duration of your physical body. Assuming for a moment that souls exist, what would the consequence be for the "You" when you are reborn? Would you be a sequel to your previous life, rediscovering memories from previous lives, or would you start with a clean slate, in which case, I would ask, what is the purpose of reincarnation then? In quite a few belief systems, there is a place set aside for you, and most people get exactly one chance to determine where your soul end up in the afterlife. Is there some kind of benefit to leading a good life and if so, who determines what a good life is? Is it a divine judgement what you are reborn as or is it just a set of natural laws? What if you lead a bad life, do you then get reborn as a worm destined to go fishing? If the reincarnation is a divinely inspired mechanism, does intercession happen? If so, is it then really that different from those who believe that you get one lifetime, apart from the no second chances part? If I had the time, I could probably have put up an antire flow-chart of all those combinations of outcomes and thoughts on whether they are good or bad. Back to the assumption (and coherent thought?), if we have a "soul", I can't see, depending on your faith, that reincarnation isn't a possibility. If we don't have a "soul", we are fertiliser when we die and our only claim to immortality are the genes we pass on through our children. Assuming for a moment that reincarnation is real, is it a good or a bad thing? I would say, that depends on the ultimate goal. If the cycle is endless, are we then really living (ok, I sound like a Dustie now) or are we trapped for eternity in a prison yearning for oblivion? If the cycle isn't endless and there is some different planes of existence (heaven, hell, somewhere in between), then I don't really see it as much of a difference to say Christianity or Islam. The methods and the trappings may be different, but the goal is ultimately the same. Live a good life according to your faith and get some goodies in the end. Which is really what it all boils down to, what do you believe in? Death is a tricky barrier to pass documentation through, so belief is mostly what is left. Mind you, if we were always only driven by rational thought, I think we would most likely still be cowering in caves when lightning storms passes over our heads... Progress in thinking has been known to be done by irrational people in the past. And Gorth shouldn't really pretend to be able to think deep thoughts towards the end of a long day

Funny answer: That it would make sense to sentence people to multiple life sentences. You just have to spot the criminal again the moment he is reborn and lock the toddler up again. Serious answer: Not sure what you are expecting here? Input as to whether it is a plausible thing happening to people? Whether it is a good or a bad thing? Whether it is a process we ourselves are in control of? Is it endless repetition or is there a "goal"? A few more words as guide to what you would like to hear would be nice.

In a pinch, buffing up the intelligence of your frontliners will make them stand on their legs longer, paralysed or not. A few potions of genius (I think thats the one) can help them survive one or two extra hits by the illithids (since they kill your party members by sucking their brains out through their noses or whatever it is they do).

If it is the house I am thinking of, then it would be "the collector". Part of Korgans quest for a certain book. Not for anything as far as I know. Just junk.

That sounds strange. I run PS:T on Windows XP SP2 without any "compatibility" settings. Could it be your disk or drive that it doesn't like? Have you tried copying all files onto the hd? If not, have you installed any alternative player software that could conflict with the movie player that PS:T uses (can't remember if it is bink)? If neither of the above... no idea really

After almost eight weeks on dial up connection from home, I finally got hooked up on the internet properly again... That experience was almost as bad as some decaf I once swallowed a few years ago Back to being on-line 24/7 again

Does the sudanese government have the sudanese peoples or the sudanese governments interest at heart then? And are the motives of such actions even remotely related to anything regarding names, teddy bears and english school teachers? Hence my previous question, who benefits from people being whipped into a frenzy? Does a person who only ever gets one view presented, really have a choice in what to think?

Thread pruned a bit. Lets leave the personal antagonism for other venues...

I am Gorth, all listen to the wisdom as explained in gorthology, the teachings that will lead mankind to a new and brighter future. We shall all build a new world, and it shall be Gorthopia, and happiness shall be enforced with an iron hand. Now, how to go trick some followers into building my new capital, Gorthopolis?... Took a walk down to the Circular Quay in Sydney with my camera, during my lunch break. Wanted to take some daylight pictures of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Turned out that the batteries had pulled a Monthy Python Parrot trick on me...

Emphasis mine. I don't blame religion (and I am not really a friend of institutionalised religion), as much as I blame culture, history, geography, ruthless ambitious individuals, poverty and qute a few other things for the phenomena of "angry masses". When playing on their unrest and directing their ire against a target, they are just that, an angry mass of people seeking an outlet for their anger. If not religion, then hooliganism, racism, nationalism, **ism, whatever. It would be better to address the causes for such things, rather than the symptons (although, I can perfectly understand why a certain english teacher is currently very concerned with the symptoms, as her life might depend on it). As Walsingham suggested, this seems choreographed, just like the "Muhammed Cartoon" incident. The question I would ask then, who benefits from such unrest?

A few people are already setting some very bad examples. Lets call it "hint of the day" and say, careful where you put your feet when posting?

sealed room inside sith academy
Gorth replied to GaspardDeadlyAssailant's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
As Steve said, the holocron thing depends on the answers you gave Atton way back at the beginning of the game, when he was held in the Peragus mining facility. Depending on your answers then, there is either nothing to do in the room (it will say something like the explosion damaged the holocron or similar) or, again depending on your conversation back then, there will be a small cinematic, showing Bastila giving you some information about what has happened since Kotor1. In any case, it isn't essential, just a nice catch up with some events. -

First page of previous thread: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=39652 Last page of previous thread: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?sh...5&start=495 I don't know how much life there is in the series yet, but the thread was getting a bit long. I've only got as far as buying the pilot thingy on DVD. I might treat myself to seasons 1&2 as a Christmas Present (i've been nice to myself all year)
