  1. Is he talking about art direction or the amount of bloom/pixels they can throw at people? Infinity Engine games still looks better than most 3d engine crpgs, yet that doesn't stop publishers from churning out one low detail 3D game after another, trying to save on assets I guess I have to check the link eventually...
  2. Translocating to new thread

  4. Doesn't really match my own experiences This is more like it. Working in a 400+ people software company, trying very hard not to make wrong calls that may affect 100's, sometimes 1000's of peoples livelyhood. Lots of responsibility, lots of focus on quality and always frothing at the mouth in a mad dash to meet deadlines... (and yeah, winning more domestic, regional and worldwide awards for our work than you can shake a stick at) I don't think size really matters, your corporate culture matters.
  5. Gave the demo a break and then played through it a second time. Good thing it is my work laptop, because I was really tempted to smash my fist through the screen in frustration over the god awful camera. I think I spent 80% of my time fiddling and constantly (and vainly) trying to readjust the camera angle as my character moved around. I'll wait and see when the deal packages comes out with expansions, patches and DLC's included. Maybe they'll have fixed the camera by then.
  6. While semantically correct, it is just that, semantics. In the end you are depriving somebody somewhere of their return for time and labour invested in their work. Nice write up of the situation in the the old USSR and eastern Europe It is indeed a similar situation in many places in current day developing countries. Way too expensive products for the local pay check available for a fraction from local crime gang store fronts that make a fortune from duplicating the products, having only the blank media and a printer as their expenses. Heck, I make a decent living and I still find that the current garbage to come out of the movie industry is way overpriced. Probably why I mostly buy 3 for $15 or similar bargain bin deals
  7. They are leaking a lot of radioactive stuff into the environment at the moment. You never know what the future may bring.
  8. He's dead. ****. I had no idea. Nearly four and a half years he's been gone, too. Goes to show how much attention I pay to movies these days, despite the fact they've made some real rippers from what I've heard. Yet to see most of them, though. Haven't seen the inside of a cinema for 5+ years. Did I miss anything? Apocalypto is probably the only DVD I've bought that I would have liked watching on the big screen. *Trying desperately to remember a remake that surpassed the original... fails miserably*
  9. Spent most of yesterday driving around in Brisbane, checking out places for rent. After a day of increasing despair and disillusion I finally found my dream place as the very last place visited. Who says stubborness persistence doesn't pay off. After having gotten up at 4 in the morning, catching a flight, renting a car, driving all day (while trying to follow instructions from the gps) and flying back again, I pretty much crashed in my couch late in the evening. Woke up in the middle of the night and went to bed. Of course I couldn't sleep then Now doing the paperwork and filling out an application form. I want that place badly Edit: @Shryke: They look ugly, they smell and they are noisy. All the charm of a litter of rat spawn. I suspect parent glands secrete some kind of psychofarmaca that renders parents deaf and blind to the ugliness (seriously, it's the only rational explanation).
  10. You guys write too much stuff. Dragon Age 2 continued here
  11. Start of old thread End of old thread I haven't played the game, don't intend to, but find the discussion about loot vs. costumizing equipment interesting. I actually liked that in games like PS:T and BG2, that there were "signature" equipment that important characters preferred to use, whether it be Annah's punch daggers or Anomen's family shield. As long as it made sense in the context of the game. Never was much of a loot gatherer and never dug games like Diablo etc.
  12. Are we talking about Charlie Sheen?
  13. Bought a handful of DVD's in a bout of boredom. One of them was the 'feature length' pilot for Caprica. Not as bad as I had expected, considering what I've heard about it. Found it quite enjoyable actually, as long as I managed to forget that it was supposed to fit into Galactica continuity (which it doesn't).
  14. Then cure him of his happiness. Keep hitting him with a big stick until he realises that he has a problem. If he asks why you suddenly started whacking him with a big stick, just explain to him that you are exorcising the Happy Demon that has possessed him for his own good. Eventually he'll realise that he needs help
  15. I admire your persistence. I gave up on NWN1 shortly after starting on chapter 4 when playing it originally Bugs made NWN 1 a total misery for me on release... I revisit it now and again, but I mostly played multiplayer. I bought the... silver box thingy? The one with the original and SoU (no HotU). I think it was fairly stable (if butt ugly). That is why I love this thread and should probably post more encouragement. It's like listening to a horror story rather than living through it
  16. New episode
  17. Start of old thread End of old thread 92, not bad. Definitely not an age to take for granted to reach. Sound like an interesting life, good and bad and all
  18. Announced 2012... first flawed models released early 2013 (burning down houses due to bad thermal design, poisoning your pets because of leaking cyanide vapors, frying your potted plants with their unshielded radiation etc.), second wave of releases with most life threatening issues fixed released late 2013 and being hopelessly outdated, lagging behind anything from laptops to iPad3 in 2014
  19. HoMM3. While I didn't mind the combat in HoMM4, the changes to the "management" parts and loss of races/troop types was a major turn off. My interest in the franchise really disappeared then. Only tried HoMM5 for around an hour (my little brother was stupid enough to buy it), hated it's guts, it's ugly graphics and the dumbing down of everything. At least it felt like that at the time. Never tried HoMM and HoMM2.
  20. I admire your persistence. I gave up on NWN1 shortly after starting on chapter 4 when playing it originally
  21. Finally got around to play the demo a bit. Wow... just wow... I know the demo is free, otherwise I would ask for a refund for the 30 minutes of my life. So, I wasn't the only one... That was my first and still lingering impression. I fear that this game is going to focus more on it's bad combat that on other things. A matter of taste. I didn't like it either. Beg to differ, I was frantically trying to zoom out, wrestling with my mouse, trying to get some kind of overview of the mess going on on the screen. Bye bye tactical combat >_ I guess I'll never figure out now if the Gorthling spawn that Morrighan ran off with is going to be one half swamp with, one half Gorth and one half old dragon essence
  22. Read a bit of the FAQ on their website. Ran across the following words within short order: Visceral, Epic, Action Combat. Didn't read the rest
  23. Frag count... Raithe - 0 Computer - 1 Wondering if I should get myself a laptop some day. Might have to browse around a bit.
  24. I thought they had three stances? E.g. Lucas had the single sword, two handed for area effect and a 'recuperate' stance he could use when not being actively bashed by enemies.
  25. I watched all of 7 minutes of Twilight on free tv. A curiosity thing, not a desire for self inflicted pain. Couldn't watch more of it though as it physically hurt my frontal lobes. Sort of like watching live acting anime Will watch the some of the linked/recorded footage after work hours
