  1. Wait wait... Sata3 speeds are up to about 600 MB/s, which outclasses the maximum PCI bus speed of 533 MB/s, so why waste money with that? Plus, once you start doing multiple cards on PCI bus, things go south in a hurry. Unless you mean a PCIe card... Also, I love my very quiet p182 case. It's still faster than the 300mb max you get from SATA2 and yes, I meant PCIe. My MB has a single PCI (no 'express') slot which isn't used for anything Edit: Curses, the stores keep pushing the ETA for the Lian Li case back. It's now almost mid December. Grrr...
  2. This was the point I was going to make, its subjective. I think a Hamburger needs to have at least cheese and onions on it. You probably think its something different Well, the one I used to get 30+ years ago had only the basics, beef patty in a bun, beetroot, ketchup, remoulade (danish relish specialty), mustard, onion and pickled cucumber.
  3. Depends on who you ask
  4. Depending on how old your card is, you may not get a lot of performance out of it anymore, but if the release notes for my card is anything to go by, they often includes bugfixes for stability issues, OS versions, tweaks for specific (popular) games etc.
  5. Well, there are also many interesting story and lore possibilities that become available thanks to this very mechanic. It opens up a huge (and credible) source of conflict between gods and between groups of believers, and conflict makes for good stories. And these things are automatically excluded because we remove a straightforward correlation between worshippers and power? Why can't some gods and some worshippers vie for more influence because it's a common motive. People with money still long for influence. The President of the United States isn't made superhuman by the number of votes he receives. He's made more powerful by his influence over the apperatus of government. You could apply the same mechanism to deities. More followers equals more power, not because "my lightning bolt is bigger than yours!", but because my followers are more powerful/influential/dominant and so shape the world in my image. You could say, the end result is the same, even if for different reasons. I feel like playing Populous again. Good thing I grabbed it off GoG.
  6. I should probably add Magicka to the list. Besides, I have a number of games purchased in 2012 and installed that I haven't played yet. Might still catch up and add to my Goty list before 31/12/12. Possible candidates Crusader Kings II, Dishonored, Kings Bounty - Warriors of the North & Hearts of Iron III. Just to add a dissenting voice. XCOM gets Gorth's award for most overrated game of 2012
  7. A tricky question as I don't necessary play games the year they get released Really positive experiences this year would be Fallout New Vegas and Warlock - Master of the Arcane. I can't remember if I played Trine this year or the previous. Might have been the beginning of this one
  8. They conquered Manchuria though. It was the Soviets that kicked them out of Manchuria again in the second largest military operation in WWII (only Barbarossa was larger in scope and resources).
  9. With my luck, the god of swamps is probably some dead deity, whose temple is buried beneath the lowest level of the Endless Paths
  10. 10k... (insert "achievement" jingle)
  11. Just hi-jacking this thread a bit. A few friends and I play a p&p game where we've sadly lost 2 out of 4 players due to real life issues (leaving 2 players and the DM) the last couple of months. We could use at least one player, possibly two. If somebody has genuine interest in joining a completely dysfunctional party, heading for Ravenloft, death and damnation, send me a PM.
  12. Depending on how good is good enough, it can be prohibitively expensive.
  13. ...and then there was the "prophet" called Brian, and his followers split during the great schism and one faction followed the Gourd and the other faction praised the Shoe.
  14. Down on your knees you worthless worms and offer obeisance to the infinite majesty of the one and true god Socc, the deity of lost socks, who derives his power from the constant prayers by people desperately looking for matching pairs in their drawers in the morning. ... On a more serious note, I like the concept of Elder Gods and Younger Gods. A small group of all powerful, cantankerous old bastards that don't give a damn about anything and a more numerous bunch of less powerful, but way more active (and meddling) bunch of deities. Are "gods" going to represent concepts (war, trade, community etc.)? Are they going to represent objects (earth, water, beasts, forests etc.)? Are they representing personalities (like the norse gods, who had a goddess of wisdom, a god of mischief, a god of justice etc.)
  15. I found this to so sad it was funny... China paper carries Onion Kim Jong-un 'heart-throb' spoof "The People's Daily ran a 55-page photo spread of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un after he was declared The Onion's Sexiest Man Alive for 2012." The Onion later updated its article: "For more coverage," it wrote," please visit our friends at the People's Daily in China, a proud Communist subsidiary of The Onion, Inc. Exemplary reportage, comrades."
  16. It's almost certainly not a steam key, but a paradox key. You need it (if desired, optional) for paradox forum registration as it gives access to restricted forums like tech support, and to use the metaserver for multiplayer. I bought my CK II on steam... got a steam key and redeemed it on my steam client. It has been working so far
  17. Unfortunately I had to spend $10 on it because of the stupid point buy system. I had left over points from when I bought the DA2 and ME2 DLC's, but fell just short of the 1200 points. Sucks to be me, so I had to buy 800 points for $10
  18. The need for cheap labour?
  19. Bought the Omega DLC for ME3. Let's see what Aria is up to.
  20. The latter sounds a bit like when I'm trying to talk my body into getting out of bed in the morning, especially towards the end of the week Sat in front of my computer yesterday and stared blankly at the screen. Got a bunch of new Steam and Gamersgate acquisitions that need some love and attention.
  21. Hmm, Tigs did a 'Let's play CK II' not that long ago
  22. This. Somebody mentioned Pazaak. One of the few minigames I didn't hate passionately after trying it, because the game was fun in itself. It could have been a completely self contained game, like solitaire or mah-jong and provide entertainment for it's own sake, not as something to "beat" to get extra bonuses elsewhere. Lockpicking, hacking, etc. needs to go die horribly. They have all without fail being "work" rather than "fun" and rarely completely optional.
  23. I remember way back in time in Denmark when headlights were still manually controlled. It didn't happen to me (more luck than skill), but a number of friends had to do the walk and ask for help (and cables). Much teasing ensued
  24. That *really* depends on what genres you play and like (or dislike). The "indie" game that I've spent the most hours on is Gratuitous Space Battles It's an acquired taste though
